Dunlop named official tire of Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship

TORONTO, Ont. (May 2, 2014) – Dunlop has been named the official tire of the Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship. Goodyear Canada Inc. will supply tires for all classes of Canada’s national motorcycle road racing series.

The Dunlop brand has a long and proud history with motorcycle racing around the world, and particularly in Canada. The company’s affiliates are also spec tire suppliers to the AMA Pro Road Racing Series in the United States, and enjoy strong involvement with the American-based WERA regional racing series and the Australian Superbike Championship.

Dunlop has won 16 Canadian Superbike Championships from the time the Superbike champ was first awarded the number one plate in 1986 to the final year of open tire competition in 2005.

“Dunlop tires have proud tradition of road racing excellence and we are delighted to once again be a part of Canada’s national road racing series,” said Caroline Pajot, President of Goodyear Canada. “We look forward to showcasing our product on the most challenging race tracks in the country and developing tires to compliment the talents of Canada’s top racers.”

As part of the multi-year deal, Pro 6 Cycle Inc. of Etobicoke, Ont., the Canadian Dunlop motorcycle race tire distributor, will handle supply and service for racers on the national tour and attend all rounds of the Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship.

“We are excited to once again be a part of Canadian national racing,” said Sandy Noce, President of Pro 6 Cycle. “We are confident not only in our product, but in the technical support and experience that Pro 6 Cycle and its staff will bring to the race track.”

“We have found the spec tire format to be a great equalizer in the Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship, and that the use of a single tire supplier has helped level the playing field and made the national series more accessible to a wide range of competitors,” said Colin Fraser of Professional Motorsports Productions, which runs the national series. “At the same time we have seen the crucible of fierce competition help improve the breed of road racing tire, resulting in a product that combines ever-expanding performance with enhanced rider safety.

“We look forward to having Goodyear Canada take on this role with the Canadian tour, while at the same time thanking Pirelli for its eight years of service to the Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship.”

The 2014 Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship opens at Shannonville Motorsport Park on June 6-8 and concludes with the traditional doubleheader at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park August 15-17.

Jordan Szoke is bidding for an unprecedented 10th national Superbike crown and third in a row this season with his BMW S1000RR.
