Yamaha May Develop Superbike In 2004, But Will Concentrate On Superstock, Supersport

Yamaha Motor Corp. U.S. racing boss Keith McCarty said Friday that although the company plans to develop a Superbike based on the Yamaha YZF-R1, its primary focus in the 2004 AMA Series will be in Supersport and Superstock.

Speaking to Roadracing world.com Friday during a Yamaha Supermoto Day at Apex raceway in Perris, California, McCarty said, “Our game plan is to build a Superbike and do some testing with it throughout the year and if things look good or if the situation’s right–there’s a lot of things you got to line up–maybe race it a time or two if we’re somewhere that we’d like to be. We just think at this point in time where we’re going to go is Supersport and Superstock.”
