Arclight Suzuki’s Jeff Wood took three pole positions during Formula USA qualifying Saturday at New Hampshire International Speedway (NHIS), in Loudon, New Hampshire.

Riding his Dunlop-shod GSX-R750, Wood was fastest in Formula Sportbike qualifying with a 1:12.201. Wood then went even faster on his GSX-R600, which was fitted with 16.5-inch slicks, in Superbike qualifying, 1:11.579, a new F-USA class lap record. Wood completed his qualifying hat trick by claiming the Sportbike pole position with a new class lap record of 1:12.044.

The bonus point that comes with each F-USA pole position extends Wood’s Championship lead in each class.

“We’re feeling good. We’re happy right now,” said Wood. “I’m sure Scotty Greenwood and Robert Jensen will go faster. I hope we do, too.”

Argo Cycles’ Jesse Janisch was second-fastest in Formula Sportbike qualifying even though he is a new-comer to NHIS. Prior to the F-USA event, however, Janisch participated in three Penguin Roadracing School days and the Loudon Road Racing Series (LRRS) races June 11-12.

Janisch’s team owner Scott Greenwood was second-fastest in Superbike, turning a 1:12.509, his best performance so far on his new 636cc Kawasaki ZX-6R, which has new Ohlins fork internals.

Kneedraggers.com Yamaha’s Robert Jensen (1:12.523) was second-fastest in Sportbike in spite of not turning any laps of practice (which was mostly wet), on any of his bikes, prior to the start of Saturday afternoon qualifying. That strategy may have cost Jensen a set of bodywork, as he said his less-than-ideal chassis set-up resulted in him crashing in turn three during the Sportbike qualifier.

Local ace Rick Doucette will start the F-USA Thunderbike final from pole position thanks to a time of 1:15.706 on his Plaistow Powersports Suzuki SV650 Superbike.

Eric Wood, older brother of Jeff Wood, recorded the fastest lap time in Thunderbike qualifying, a 1:15.348, but Eric Wood had the wrong competition number on his Penguin Roadracing School Ducati 1000 SS and his times were disallowed.

Defending Thunderbike Champion Bryan Bemisderfer (1:16.685) also had his qualifying times disallowed when his Buell XB12R locked up its engine during the session and was unable to complete the mandatory post-qualifying dyno test.

Harding Buell’s Dave Estok (1:16.196) was officially second-fastest in Thunderbike qualifying, fastest of the National series regulars, on his Pirelli-shod XB12R.

Sunday’s weather forecast for the Loudon area does not call for rain.
