Timing And Scoring System Meltdown Complicates Toyota 200, But Josh Hayes Probably Won Again

A timing and scoring system failure about two-thirds of the way through the 80-lap, 200-mile Toyota 200 at Willow Springs Raceway left WSMC officials with a scoring nightmare, but it is probable that Josh Hayes won the event on an Attack Kawasaki possibly followed by Jeremy Toye on a Hotbodies Racing/Roadracingworld.com Honda and John Haner on another Attack Kawasaki. Where Jason Perez, Michael Beck and Chris Ulrich finished are also at issue in the scoring controversy and protests are likely. Toyota 200 results will be posted when they become available. The race started on a wet track, which quickly dried out. Perez started on rain tires and made an early stop to switch to slicks. Hayes started on cut slicks but ran his full initial stint. Other tire choices seen on the grid included full slicks and DOT-labeled treaded tires as well as full rains and intermediates. It started raining during the winner’s circle ceremony for the Roadracing World 250/50 and stopped shortly before the delayed start of the Toyota 200. In contrast to 2004, timing & scoring for the 250/50 this year seemed accurate with no scoring protests filed, other than an issue with one rider running in the neighborhood of 16th or 17th losing his transponder three laps from the finish.
