In the Mach 1 Motorsports Formula Pacific race this past weekend at Infineon Raceway, David Stanton continued his defense of the number one plate by taking a convincing win on his Arclight Suzuki GSX-R1000. Second went to Pacific Track Time’s Michael Earnest with third going to former number one plate-holder Rob Mesa, completing a Dunlop-shod GSX-R1000 sweep of the Formula Pacific podium. Chris Siglin held second on his Arclight Suzuki GSX-R600 for a good portion of the race, looking good for a podium finish before running wide on the brakes into Turn 7 on the last lap. Siglin recovered to finish fifth, losing a drag race to the checkered flag with fourth-place finisher Jeff Tigert. Stanton’s win was his first as the new owner of Oakland Suzuki.

“I have to thank Dan Kyle straight away for getting me the Ohlins parts for my forks,” Stanton stated from the winner’s circle. “They made an unbelievable difference in the bike. I have complete trust in it now, and can really ride it as hard as I want!”

Stanton won a good chunk of Suzuki contingency money on the weekend, adding to his first place Formula Pacific finish with victories in the Hare Racing Open Superbike race as well as the Dial it in Tracktime 750 Superbike race.

Chris Siglin followed up his impressive Formula Pacific performance by taking the win in the Pacific Track Time 600 Superbike race. Grant Riggs finished second, with Ryan Texeira coming out on top of a race-long battle with Andy Carman to finish third.

“I’ve been working really hard with Arclight Suzuki in getting the setup right, and I’m just really happy with the bike. It’s like the bike and I are one it fits my style, and I’ve really meshed well with it. I was kind of surprised that Tigert didn’t make the grid I thought it would be a really good matchup!”

Correy Sarros took home a pair of first place trophies on his Pirelli shod GSX-R1000 at Infineon Raceway, keeping the momentum going from his win at Thunderhill just one month ago. In the Powerstands Open Grand Prix race, Sarros came back from a slow start to hunt down the leaders, taking a position at a time in a series of strong moves on the brakes. By lap three, Sarros had taken the lead with a pass on Kim Nakashima, when a red flag brought the race to a close, giving Sarros the win. In the Take it to the Track Open Production race, Sarros was able to take his second straight class victory, taking the checkered flag with a commanding eight-second lead over second-place Martin Szwarc.

“I’ve just been training more, riding more, and working hard to find the setup on my bike,” explained Sarros, when asked about his recent string of success. “I had a bad start in Open GP it was actually kind of fun taking people on the brakes and working my way forward until the red flag came out. Vincent Haskovec has been giving me a lot of advice as well his help and guidance really made a difference in my riding!”

Brian Long was another double winner at the event, taking home victories in both the 650 Twins class and the Zoom Zoom Trackdays Formula 4 class on his Spears Racing SV650. In 650 Twins, Long came out on top of a race-long, three rider battle that was cut short by a red flag, with Felipe Cabezas finishing second and Kurt Spencer third. In Formula 4, Long and Cabezas went head to head once again after Spencer crashed out of the lead in the Carousel at the halfway point. The battle culminated on the last lap when Cabezas attempted to pass Long on the brakes into Turn 9, colliding with Long in the middle of the right-left transition. Long recovered to take the win, with Cabezas second and Mike Lohmeyer third.

Carlos Neves looked strong early in the Formula 3 race, until clutch problems forced him to drop out on the second lap. His retirement allowed Mark Goodrich to take his first ever AFM victory, with second going to Marcus Henderson.

“I was riding in third for a bit after Carlos pulled off, following both Marcus and Ryan for a bit,” recalled Goodrich. “Both of them kept looking back, and I thought ‘Guys, the race is on front of you! Look ahead!’ I passed them both in traffic and never looked back until Turn 11 on the last lap, when I didn’t see anyone there.”

Brien Whitlock took the win in the red-flag-shortened Formula Singles race, silencing the dirt bike critics by taking a convincing win on his CRF450 supermoto machine. Second went to Jeff Shnapp and his Tigcraft framed 700cc Yamaha, with third going to the RS125 framed CRF450 of Chris Keane.

“I like to dedicate this win to my buddy Creech, as everyone was talking smack about how guys like us on dirtbikes can’t hang on the road race tracks. I just had an absolute blast! To be doing low 48s on this bike was completely amazing I haven’t had this much fun in a long time!

Jay Kinberger took the win on his Kawasaki EX250 in the Aftershocks Suspension 250 Production race, coming out on top of a race-long, three-rider scrap for the lead which saw riders running pushing each other off-line and over curbs in their attempts to take the win. David Crone finished second on his VTR250 with Yoav Damti third on his EX250.

“I just tried to be contained and ride within myself, when a rider came by me I thought it was Val (Kotyza),” Kinberger claimed after the race. “I said to myself, “Game on” wicking it up and passing him back in a lap or so. It was some pretty hairy racing, right on the edge with some wheel hopping and curb jumping going on. I later realized it was Yoav (Damti), which was when the red flag flew.”

In Saturday’s endurance race, the Pacific Track Time team of Michael Earnest, Jeff Tigert, and Cory Call took the Open Class victory as well as the Overall Victory on a Suzuki GSX-R1000, with second place going to the Munroe Motors MV Agusta 1000 ridden by Tom Montano and Craig McLean.

“I just hired the fastest guys I could find they obviously didn’t know a thing about my bad reputation!” said Earnest from the winner’s circle, joking as he celebrated victory. “Our GSX-R1000 just worked perfectly – and what the hell is an MV Agusta doing up here?”

The next round of AFM action is scheduled to take place on September 11th at Buttonwillow Raceway.
