DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (February 23, 2012) RMR (Richie Morris Racing) announced today that the team will not participate in the 2012 AMA Pro Road Racing season. The highly-successful team fielded riders that captured two Daytona SportBike championships and two XR1200 championships over the last three seasons of competition. RMR has decided to take a year to focus their efforts on building upon the already strong foundation for competition in the 2013 AMA Pro Road Racing season. “It is tough to win two championships in 2011 and not race in 2012,” Richie Morris, team owner of Richie Morris Racing explained. “We are disappointed to not run in AMA Pro this year because we love the series and love to race. Our plan was to run the Rossmeyer/RMR XR1200 team, the XR1200 rental program, and work on securing sponsorship for the Daytona SportBike class. However, in February we decided that it would be difficult to race at our standards and we did not want to make the mistake of fielding an unprepared or underfunded team. Such a move would not be beneficial for the team, its sponsors, or AMA Pro Racing.” With a focus on 2013 and a resolve to return with the type of front-running talent that the prestigious team has long been known to recruit, RMR will now have the proper amount of time to prepare an attractive marketing opportunity for in- and out-of-industry sponsors. “We support Richie’s decision,” said Shelly Rossmeyer Pepe. “We have been Richie Morris fans and sponsors for a long time and agree it’s the best overall move for the team to concentrate on 2013. We will attend some of the races this season and it’s still possible you will see a Rossmeyer/RMR Harley-Davidson at Indy this summer.” The team won on the inaugural AMA Pro Road Racing event weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway when the series debuted at the historic venue last season. “I am aware of the hurdles which arose for Richie and the RMR team as they prepared to mount the kind of 2012 competitive effort for which they are known and respected in our paddock,” said David Atlas, Chief Operating Officer of AMA Pro Racing. “For years now, RMR has had a prominent competitive and visual presence in our series, and with its champion athletes, it has brought much valuable excitement to AMA Pro Road Racing. Richie’s absence in 2012 will be a loss for us, but we eagerly await the return of RMR, Shelly and their other fine sponsors, as quickly as they can assemble the top level constituents consistent with their prior winning track record.” Richie Morris Racing would like to thank the sponsors, talented riders, and crew members who have made all of the RMR success possible! “The potential sponsors that we have interested in the 2013 season are really exciting,” Morris continued. “We have always been an advocate of attracting out-of-the-industry sponsors to our sport and look forward to working with some of them in 2013. We want to give a big thank you to AMA Pro Racing, David Atlas and his staff for their endless hard work. We feel that we will have a marketable product that is fun to watch and follow, we just have to work harder and smarter to be ready for 2013!” RMR also wishes all of the teams/riders a very successful and safe 2012. Additional information about the team’s 2013 AMA Pro Road Racing program will be released as it becomes available.
