JD “The Jiggy Double” Beach Wins Supersport Race 2 At Miller Motorsports Park; Teammate Gerloff Finishes Third
Tooele, UT – June 28, 2015 – Not far from the shores of The Great Salt Lake, it was another day at the beach for aptly named Yamalube/Y.E.S./Graves/Yamaha rider JD Beach as he won MotoAmerica Supersport Race 2 at Miller Motorsports Park in convincing fashion for his second victory of the weekend and second double-win outing in a row.
Starting from the pole, JD got a great start, which pretty much decided the 16-lap race as the Kentucky-based rider pulled a gap that grew larger and larger with each circulation of the 3.048-mile, 15-turn Miller road course. It was his seventh victory of the 2015 season and fifth in row with three rounds and six races left to go.
JD’s blistering, fast pace was also motivated by his good friend, Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha Superbike rider Cameron Beaubier who still holds the lap record for 600cc machines at Miller, which he set in 2013 aboard his Yamaha YZF-R6 during his AMA Pro Racing Daytona SportBike Championship season. Cameron teasingly reminded JD of the lap record earlier in the day.
“Yeah, Cameron was giving me a hard time earlier today about his lap record,” JD said with a big grin. “So, one of our goals was to try and beat his lap record. I came close but didn’t quite get it. Hopefully, we can come back next year and get that record. I’m happy with the win and I’m really excited to get to (Mazda Raceway) Laguna Seca for the next round.”
JD’s Yamalube/Y.E.S./Graves/Yamaha teammate Garrett Gerloff also got off the line well and took second position early on, but like every other rider in the race, he wasn’t quite able to match his teammate’s absolutely blistering pace. Garrett battled with Wheels In Motion/MotoSport.com/Meen Yamaha rider Josh Herrin throughout most of the race, and then with Bobby Fong, and the Texan ultimately took the checkers in third place.
Garrett said, “We’ve been struggling with the setup and chasing some things. My guys, Olly (Hutchinson) and Kei (Maeda), are working hard to make me comfortable on the bike, but JD and Bobby (Fong) are really upping the pace a lot. We’ll keep working at it and, hopefully, we can get a win or two when we get to Laguna Seca.”
With his double-win weekend, JD is now leading the 2015 MotoAmerica Supersport Championship by 44 points over Josh Herrin. Garrett is currently third in the points standings and just 10 points out of second place.
The Yamalube/Y.E.S./Graves/Yamaha team will return to action on the weekend of July 17-19, when the MotoAmerica series shares the world stage at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca during World Superbike weekend.

ANTHONY EXCELS IN THE UTAH HEAT
M4 SportbikeTrackGear.com Suzuki’s David Anthony brought the heat in the face of triple-digit temperatures this weekend at Miller Motorsports Park. In the end, Anthony left Tooele, Utah, with his 7th and 8th top-five results of the 2015 MotoAmerica AMA/FIM North American Supersport Championship.
The high-speed venue was expected to present something of an uphill climb for the Australian, but his Team Hammer crew evened the playing field by unleashing some additional horsepower from his M4 SportbikeTrackGear.com Suzuki GSX-R600 ahead of the round.
As a result, Anthony was able to showcase front-running speed in the lead up to the race, throwing down competitive lap times consistently and securing a spot on the second row with the 5th best time of qualifying at 1:54.463.
A tire balance issue on Saturday and a master cylinder problem on Sunday kept him from reaching his goal of two podium finishes, but he still managed to finish fourth in Saturday’s race and fifth in Sunday’s race.
“We came in expecting to struggle a little,” Anthony expected. “But my guys did some work on the bike and found us the horsepower we need to really challenge at the front. Qualifying went well — we were only fifth, but the times were right there. I was really looking forward to the races, but a couple little issues held us back from reaching our potential. Overall, the results are not bad, but it’s a little disappointing knowing we had the pace.”
Anthony and Team Hammer will have another shot at the podium in three weeks as the MotoAmerica championship shares the spotlight with the Superbike World Championship at Laguna Seca, July 17-19.
“Now that we’ve got a little extra power, we’re pretty excited about Laguna Seca and the rest of the season. We’re going to be back where we should be. It’s not going to be easy to beat the guys at the front, but we’re going to give it our best shot.”
This year marks Team Hammer’s 35th consecutive season of operating as a professional road racing team. During that time, racebikes built and fielded by Team Hammer have won 59 AMA Pro National races, have finished on AMA Pro National podiums 137 times and have won five AMA Pro National Championships, (the most recent in 2012), as well as two FIM South American championships. The team has also won 133 endurance races overall (including seven 24-hour races) and won 13 Overall WERA National Endurance Championships with Suzuki motorcycles, and holds the U.S. record for mileage covered in a 24-hour race. The team also competed in the televised 1990s Formula USA National Championship, famously running “Methanol Monster” GSX-R1100 Superbikes fueled by methanol, and won the F-USA Championship four times.
