Cory Burleson and the Village Idiots Take Saturday’s Top Spots at MotorSport Ranch with the CMRA

Village Idiots team riders Cory Burleson, Chris Headley, John Orchard, and Garet Tomlinson rode their Dunlop-shod Yamaha YZF-R6 to the Superbike and Overall Endurance wins in the first round of the Championship Endurance series. Cory Burleson also grabbed the Solo 30 MW Expert and overall wins this past Saturday, April 8, 2017, at MotorSport Ranch. They were also the winners of Red Bull-donated Red Bull KTM VIP MotoGP tickets for the upcoming round on April 21-23, 2017 in Austin, Texas.

The Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association (CMRA) Saturday schedule began with Mini and Lightweight Sprints, followed by the Solo 30 races, and finished with the 6-Hour Championship Endurance, bringing 10 hours of racing action to Cresson, Texas. Weather in the 70’s with 18-20 mph winds made for track conditions that were rough on tires on the 1.7-mile, 11-turn counter-clockwise course.

The Mini and Lightweight Sprint grids ran first, with over 40 bikes on the grid in combined entries each for the 500 Superstock, Ultra LW GP, E Superbike, 500 Superbike and 500 Classic lightweight sprints. The Island Racing Services – Solo 30 races went next, with over 30 bikes in combined entries each on the Heavyweight/Middleweight and Lightweight/500 Superstock grids.

The 6-Hour Championship Endurance race had a good turnout, with the endurance classes of Promomin/Repsol Oils Superbike, Antic Screen Printing – Formula 2, and Modern Classic represented. The start lights went out, and Village Idiots, Pretty Hate Machine, Monkeymoto and LocoMotion were immediately battling for the lead, with the Village Idiots team coming out on top and turning the fastest lap of the race with a 1:17.209 on Lap 4. Pretty Hate Machine held off Monkeymoto and LocoMotion, as In Torque We Trust slid into fifth headed into Hour 2.

The Village Idiots continued to run a feverish pace with the Pretty Hate Machine team of Jesse Davis, Andy Galindo, Will Gruy, Alan Phillips, and David Tiede chasing after them on their Yamaha R1. The Yamaha YZF-R6 mounted LocoMotion team hounded Pretty Hate Machine while holding off the Apex Predators team of Paul Bradley, Jay Bullard, John McKenzie, and Yorke Oldfather also on a Yamaha YZF-R6, edging In Torque We Trust for fourth. Another Yamaha YZF-R6 team, The Skidmarks, held off Suzuki GSX-R600 Lawdawg Racing for sixth as they headed into Hour 3. Front tire wear started rearing its ugly head early, forcing some unexpected tire changes as the rough track conditions started to shelve tires on the left side.

The LocoMotion team of Brandon Altmeyer, Alonzo Contreras, Ryan Max Johnson, Hayden Schultz, and Mark Windham put the move on Pretty Hate Machine, tackling them for second, and began their pursuit of the Village Idiots. The EBR 1190RX mounted In Torque We Trust team of Brandon Beals, Jim Dugger, Jorge Guerrero Jr, and Walt Sipp was holding off all comers in fourth, while The Skidmarks did the same in fifth, and the Apex Predators fell to tenth with an unplanned pitstop. The track conditions started to bring out some mechanicals and more tire issues, forcing some unexpected pitstops and jogging the running order as teams scrambled to make up time.

During the final two hours, the leaders held on to their spots with steel fists, with the Village Idiots stretching their lead to three laps over the field and Apex Predators fighting their way back up into sixth around Buffington Homes Racing. The Village Idiots took the checkers at 6:33 pm with the Superbike Endurance and overall wins with 266 laps completed. LocoMotion was next with second in Superbike Endurance and overall, with a fastest lap of 1:19.251 and 263 laps. Pretty Hate Machine was next, finishing third in Superbike Endurance and overall, with a fastest lap of 1:18.771, and completing 261 laps. In Torque We Trust was next, with fourth in Superbike Endurance and overall, with a fastest lap of 1:19.197 and 250 laps. The Skidmarks team of Hector Barreto, Enoc Garza, Steve Nedd, and Brian Prescott was next, taking fifth in Superbike Endurance and overall, with a fastest lap of 1:21.774 and 246 laps. Apex Predators rounded out the top six, with sixth in Superbike Endurance, a fastest lap of 1:21.550 and 244 laps.
