Sixteen years old, Mexican National and CMRA rider Gabriel Martínez-Abrego has been selected by Fiorenzo Caponera’s Worldwide Race Organization to participate in their Moto3 rider development program.

‘Gabo’, as known by family and friends, completed a five-day rider simulation process this past February that included physical & medical evaluations as well as a track day test on a Moto3 bike. As a result, he was invited to participate in the team rider’s “Empowerment” program, which has been the first step of riders in the GP125 and Moto3 World Championship.

With 18 years, Worldwide Race is the oldest organization in the 125GP & Moto3 Championship and has been known as one of the structures that focus in young riders. Among some, Marco Simoncelli, Roberto Locatelli, Arnaud Vincent and lately Alex Marquez have been part of their team rider’s rooster.

The organization runs the OutOx Reset Drink Team in the 2015 Moto3 World Championship with South African Darryn Binder and Alessandro Tonucci from Italy. Gabriel was enlisted and presented to IRTA as the team development rider at the Jerez MotoGP, he will be attending most of the European MotoGP events with the team.

Now living in Spain, Gabo dedicates six days a week to train and practice under the team supervision. Among his daily activities, he attends the gym, swims, runs, and rides road and mounting bicycles. On his motorcycle practice days he trains technical skills in karting tracks and complements his program with supermotard and dirt track riding.

The team has plans for Gabriel to start racing after his first three months of intense training, and most likely will be at the third round of the FIM CEV Moto3 Junior World Championship in Circuito de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain on June 21st.

The CMRA rider recently tested and trained for the first time with the team’s Mahindra Moto3 bike in Motorland Aragón MotoGP track. He shared the track with World Moto3 riders Darryn Binder and Jules Danilo, with satisfying results.

OutOx Reset Drink Team Director José Manuel ‘Josete’ Ruiz commented on the test: “This was a simple test, I wanted to know how Gabo adapts himself to the bike, if he had some issues or concerns, it was basically a little “quiz”…. He has well passed it, he improved his lap times every time out in the track and we were able to detect where he needs to work harder. It was good that he share the track with World Moto3 riders, he was able to maintain near their pace. In my opinion this was a successful day of training”

Gabriel’s program is incorporated to the ‘Universita Populare de Milano’ in Italy and includes technical and academic courses, such as; basic mechanic`s, telemetry, sports marketing, media management and Italian language.

“This is a living dream for me, I am extremely happy and will do my best and work as hard as needed to take advantage of such opportunity. I am thankful to my family, specially my brother Javier, our sponsors, my friends and my race-family community at CMRA, Texas Motorcycle Academy and Harris Hill Raceway; you all are part of what I am living now” commented ‘Gabo’.

This year process is focused on developing Gabriel skills and abilities with the goal of reaching the Moto3 Championship in a competitive level. He is being supported by Grupo Motomex and open to new collaboration that can help him become the first ever Mexican rider in the history of World Championship racing.
