CMRA Racer Martinez-Abrego Invited To Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup Selection Event

CMRA Racer Gabriel Martínez-Abrego has been selected for the 2014 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup Selection Event to take place at the Guadix Circuit in Guadix, Spain on October 14th – 16th, 2014.

Hundreds of teenage racers from around the world send out applications, with only a limited amount of them being chosen to participate. He is very excited to be chosen for the Red Bull Rookies Cup Selection Event:

“I am grateful to my family and people around me for giving me the opportunity to do what I love in the most professional way at our reach,” said Gabriel Martinez-Abrego. “I do understand that in order to fulfill my goals I must perform with dedication, effort, sacrifices and commitment; follow the right path and ride adequate equipment. Red Bull Rookies Cup is all this, and I will give my 110% on this challenge.”

Gabriel, a 16-year-old born in Monterrey, México and living in San Antonio, Texas, forms part of the third generation of a racing heritage family. His grandfather Javier Martínez-Abrego Sr, was a multi-time Mexican National Champion and his father Javier, Jr. raced in the US back in the early ‘90s with very good results. Nowadays Gabriel and his brother Javier III (21) have inherited the passion for racing, they both are active racers at the Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association (CMRA); a recognized racing organization based in Texas that has been the initial racing home of MotoGP racers Kevin Schwantz, Nicky Hayden, Ben Spies and Colin Edwards, among others.

Like many kids, Gabriel started out very young with little dirt bikes and kart racing. In mid-2012 Gabriel joined the CMRA series and rode a Kawasaki KLX110 Mini Road Race bike and performed perfectly, winning all Formula 7 class races he entered. In 2013 he raced an Aprilia RS125 Cup bike finishing Top 10 in the Series in both Formula 4 and E Superstock Class’s. At current 2014 race year, Gabriel has performed extremely well winning multiple times and having podium finishes in most of his races. Riding a Kawasaki Ninja 300 he stands 2nd and 3rd in the championship in both 300 Supersport and Formula 3 respectively. Riding a Yamaha TZ250 GP Gabriel has won both Formula 2 races he has entered and stands 4th. in the series.

Gabriel spends most of his weekends riding motorcycles, when not in a race weekend, he rides at Harris Hill Raceway where he is being mentored by racers Craig Gleason and Keith Hertell, owner and instructor of the Texas Motorcycle Academy.
