Corrected Post: Buckmaster Fast In AMA Formula Xtreme Practice On New R1/R7 Hybrid

Graves Motorsports Yamaha’s Damon Buckmaster debuted a new R7/R1 hybrid at Pikes Peak, a machine built with part of a YZF-R1 frame welded onto a YZF-R7 frame. Team owner Chuck Graves has declined to comment on the new machine or on the AMA Pro Racing Appeals Board ruling which outlawed his 100% R7 a little more than a week ago. Graves is thought to be weighing legal action against AMA Pro Racing, and said, prior to the Appeals Board hearing, that he would sue if the R7 was found illegal.

In the meantime, Buckmaster was fast right out of the truck at Pikes Peak, running in the top three in the first practice session for the class, on Friday morning.

Official AMA Timing & Scoring listed Buckmaster at the top of the sheets in error, failing to disqualify a time that Buckmaster told reporters he did by cutting the course.

Buckmaster figured he was actually second or third fastest in the session.

A parade and street party in Buckhannon, a motocross demonstration, and special opening and closing celebrations are also planned. On the conference’s final day, participants will have the option of attending a Women’s Motocross School or a Motorcycle Safety Foundation Dirt Bike School.

The first two AMA Women & Motorcycling Conferences were held in 1997 and 2000. More than 700 women and men attended the 2000 conference, from 46 states, Sweden, Australia and Canada.

West Virginia Wesleyan College, located in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains, was chosen as the site of the 2002 AMA Women & Motorcycling Conference for its excellent facilities, and for its proximity to great motorcycle riding.

Registration kits are available by calling 1-800-AMA-JOIN, or by e-mailing [email protected]. The registration fee for the 2002 AMA Women & Motorcycling Conference is $139; all AMA members receive a $39 discount.
