Texan Sanchez Wins Two Races In Season Finale In Cartagena, Spain

Texan Mikey Lou Sanchez gets the double at Cartagena

The last round of the Finetwork Mir Racing Cup Promo3 Category was held December 7-8 in Cartagena, Spain, where 13-year-old Mikey Lou Sanchez was able to get the double wins and finish second in the Championship.

The series held the last races on Thursday and Friday during the week. On Wednesday evening we changed the motor to be ready for qualifying on Thursday. There were two 40-minute qualifying sessions. Mikey was able to qualify P3 in the morning session with hopes for better results in the second session, but the weather was cooler and track temps were not better, so we were content with P3.

With rain overnight Thursday into Friday morning it made for tricky conditions for the first race. We were scrambling trying to decide if we should put on rain tires or slicks because the track was wet but drying and the rain was gone! With two minutes to go we decided to go out on slick tires. We made the right decision.

Race One – Mikey had a great start but decided to tuck in behind the leaders and follow for a few laps. Once they got going, he then started to battle with the leaders and was able to win the race!

Race Two – It was sunny, the track was dry, and it made for an excellent race. Mikey had a great start, went to the front immediately, but on the second lap in the chicane, Mikey was pushed wide off the track. He was able to keep it up in the gravel and came back on track seven seconds behind the leader and in eighth position. That’s when the racing began in Mikey’s mind. He pushed hard, setting the fastest lap of the race only to continue beating that lap time on each of the next three laps. With two laps to go, Mikey caught the leader and continued to set the fastest lap times while battling for the win! They went back and forth more than a handful of times. With two turns to go Mikey pulled a small gap and finished strong to win Race Two.

Trinity Richardson, Sanchez’s mother, said, “That race was incredible! There were so many people there watching and for everyone to see what Mikey did was amazing. This was by far the best race I’ve seen Mikey race. When I saw Mikey back in eighth I took a deep breath and said to myself, ‘He’s got this.’ I started calculating how many seconds he was behind and how many laps he had left and I knew he was going to win. He is so mentally strong and he wants to win.”

Mikey said, “I’m glad I got pushed off the track. It made me fight hard for this win and become a better rider.”

Video: Jonathan Rea 2023 Race Vlog, E:5 – “This Is Our Reality Right Now”

Six-time Superbike World Champion Jonathan Rea has been producing a regular vlog for several seasons. As he begins his transition to Pata Yamaha Prometeon after spending the last nine seasons with Kawasaki Racing Team, we thought we would look back at Rea’s 2023 season through his own vlogs.

MotoE: Tech3 E-Racing Fielding Spinelli And Zaccone

TECH3 E-RACING GOES ALL ITALIAN IN 2024 AS ZACCONE IS JOINED BY SPINELLI TO FORM EXCITING MOTOE™ LINE UP

Tech3 E-Racing is pleased to finally be able to present its lineup for the 2024 FIM Enel MotoE™ World Championship, as another eight-round, 16-race season awaits the most spectacular electric racing series in the world, with MotoE™ set to share the stage at the majority of the European dates on the FIM MotoGP™ World Championship calendar. Alessandro Zaccone will race under Tech3 E-Racing colours for another season as he aims to solidify his results after a first season on the Ducati bike. He will be joined by Italian Nicholas Spinelli, a MotoE™ race winner, who will start his second campaign in the electric class.

Coming from a season in Moto2™, Alessandro Zaccone returned to the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Championship in 2023 with Tech3 E-Racing as a new era drew itself with Ducati becoming the official supplier of the electric series. We saw more electric racing than ever with sixteen races split into eight rounds around Europe, and the battles became more and more intense. Zaccone got close to the podium on a few occasions, but he never managed to transform his progress into concrete results. He took his best result of the season at the Sachsenring in Germany with a fourth position at race 1. Sometimes unlucky during the races, the Italian struggled to qualify well, which prevented him from showing his true potential during the races, even if he found more consistency in the final rounds of the season. He closed 2023 eleventh in the championship with 104 points. 2023 was the year of learnings, 2024 will be the one to fight for the good things, as the Italian will aim to feed from all the experience acquired this year to fight for podiums, victories, and a strong position in the championship.

He will be joined by fellow countryman Nicholas Spinelli who will start his second campaign in MotoE™. Born in 2001, the twenty-two year-old rider began his career in the national championships in Italy in 2010, where he got his first title in European Minibike Junior A. In 2013, he was European champion in the MiniGP 50cc, before he jumped to the CIV PreMoto3 125 category in 2014 and 2015. The following year, he was promoted to the Moto3 category of his national championship, and was crowned champion in 2017 and 2019. Following a few seasons without making too much noise, Spinelli re-appeared in Italian motorsport in 2021 as he joined the Supersport Next Generation category, which he won in 2022. That same year, he was given the opportunity to ride in the WorldSSP to replace an injured rider, and he took the fifteenth place in his first race. That caught the eyes of the VFT Racing team who offered him a full-time ride for 2023. He finished fourteenth with a podium, while in parallel he disputed his first season in the electric class, and he took his maiden MotoE™ win at the season finale in Misano. With four podiums, a victory and a sixth place in the championship, there is no doubt that Nicholas Spinelli will be a serious contender in 2024 as he joins Tech3 E-Racing ranks.

Alessandro Zaccone and Nicholas Spinelli will begin their 2024 campaign in February when the electric class tests at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve on February 21-22, followed by another test at the same venue on March 3-4. Two key tests for the MotoE™ class as the championship will race for the first time in Portugal, with the 2024 season opener set to take place in Portimao on March 8-10, 2024.

Alessandro Zaccone

“I am happy to finally be able to announce that I will continue my adventure with the Tech3 E-Racing team in 2024, because I feel really good with them. It was not easy to re-adapt to the electric class after a year in Moto2, but we worked really hard in 2023, and I think that we are ready to fight for top positions, podiums, and why not victories! I am happy to welcome Nicholas in the team, he has been very fast this year, and I am sure that we will work well together. Exciting for the new season ahead!”

Nicholas Spinelli

“I am very happy to be able to start another season in MotoE, especially with a well established team such as Tech3 E-Racing. I would like to thank team principal Hervé Poncharal for his trust, and I am looking forward to meeting my new team. I hope that we will have a great season together, full of excitement and achievements.”

Hervé Poncharal

Team Principal

“We are very happy and proud to finally be able to announce our 2024 Tech3 E-Racing line up. It is a pleasure to re-confirm Alessandro Zaccone for a new season with us. I strongly believe that success also comes from continuity. In 2023, Alessandro showed good signs of speed, he has potential to grow and improve, so 2024 should be and will be a much stronger year for him. He will have a new teammate who we are pleased to officialise amongst our ranks, Nicholas Spinelli. He is already a MotoE race winner, he is very young, and has been growing a lot in 2023, so it is a dream to have him with us. We believe that together with Alessandro they can emulate and push each other, so our target is to win races and fight for the championship. In addition to this good news, I am proud to announce that our 2024 campaign in the electric class will be supported by a new title sponsor, Motul, and I am excited about this new partnership.”

Video: MotoAmerica “Pressure To Rise” Episode 8

In Episode 8 of “Pressure To Rise,” we get a behind-the-scenes look at the PittRace and Circuit of The Americas rounds of the 2023 MotoAmerica Medallia Superbike Championship. So much happened at the two rounds. including Cameron Beaubier’s crash and unfortunate injury, Bobby Fong’s breakthrough pole position, and Jake Gagne’s title threepeat in Pittsburgh, followed by the intense heat in Texas that didn’t deter the riders from delivering heroic performances like Richie Escalante’s quest for a first career Superbike podium, JD Beach’s return to road racing excellence, and Stefano Mesa getting his first shot on a Superbike. World Endurance: Guintoli Also Joins BMW Factory Race Team

BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team is well-positioned for the 2024 FIM Endurance World Championship – Sylvain Guintoli as a new addition.

Sylvain Guintoli joins as a new regular rider in the BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team.

Strong core trio on the #37 BMW M 1000 RR with Markus Reiterberger and Ilya Mikhalchik, along with newcomer Guintoli.

Marc Bongers: “We are now ready to fight for the title next year.”

Munich. BMW Motorrad Motorsport is opting for continuity with a strong new addition in the upcoming 2024 season of the FIM Endurance World Championship (FIM EWC). In the BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team, Markus Reiterberger (GER) and Ilya Mikhalchik (UKR) will continue to compete, as they have since the beginning of the factory commitment in the FIM EWC. They will form the core trio with a new teammate on the #37 BMW M 1000 RR, well-experienced Sylvain Guintoli (FRA), 2014 Superbike World Champion and 2021 FIM EWC World Champion.

Reiterberger and Mikhalchik have been part of BMW Motorrad Motorsport’s FIM EWC project from the start and will enter their fifth season together with the BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team of Team Manager Werner Daemen (BEL) in 2024. 41-year-old Frenchman Guintoli is a new addition to the BMW Motorrad factory rider family and one of the most experienced international riders in both sprint and endurance racing. In addition to his 2021 world championship title, he boasts numerous victories in endurance classics.

BMW Motorrad Motorsport Director Marc Bongers: “After a very successful 2023 season, with podium finishes in all three 24-hour races and third place in the overall ranking for the BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team, we are now ready to fight for the title next year. In Markus and Ilya, we have two proven regular riders in the BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team who have been part of the project since the early development stages and have played a significant role in the successes achieved so far. Sylvain is the perfect new addition. Few riders bring as much experience on the international stage and, crucially, in the FIM EWC. Through his role in the BMW Motorrad Motorsport test team, he is also familiar with all the details of the BMW M 1000 RR. We look forward to 2024! At the same time, we thank Jérémy Guarnoni, who has done an excellent job as a regular rider in the BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team for two years, and we wish him all the best for the future.”

Werner Daemen, Team Manager BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team: “I have been a fan of Sylvain Guintoli for a long time, since he was riding in World Superbikes and became World Champion. I was also watching him this year during the FIM EWC races and I always said that he is one of the best riders out there on track. It’s a chance for us as a team to benefit from his wealth of experience, for the riders as well as for the technicians in the different areas. Different manufacturers, different tyre brands – he knows everything. I hope that he can help us to make the next step on our way to the world championship title. I’m excited to work with him and I see it as a big chance.”
