Pirelli MT60 RS tyres, which are fitted to 17” wheels, provide a high level of grip and feedback.

The minimalist look of the Svartpilen 801 is achieved by its premium details such as the LED lights, and aluminium handlebars coming together to create a unique and eye-catching street machine. Slimline ergonomic bodywork finished in dark tones wraps neatly around the engine and frame with a two-piece seat offering a high level of comfort and unrestricted movement.

State-of-the-art electronic aids improve the rideability of the Svartpilen 801 with an optional Dynamic Pack taking the street riding experience to an even higher level. In addition to adjustable Motorcycle Traction Control (MTC) and ABS, Street, Rain, and Sport ride modes are pre-set options as standard. The Dynamic Pack introduces Motor Slip Regulation (MSR) for controlled deceleration with the Anti-Wheelie mode limiting the maximum wheelie angle for extra safety.

A best-in-class technology package provides ease of use and maximum performance for every rider. The J.Juan brake system delivers exceptional stopping power thanks to the corner-sensitive Bosch ABS system. For advanced riders, a Supermoto ABS mode can be engaged by those looking for a heightened level of braking feel and a closer connection with the road.

Versatility and safety are enhanced by premium electronic features, including a 5” TFT dashboard and Connectivity Unit as standard. Pairing the unit with the Ride Husqvarna Motorcycles app allows for clear Turn-by-Turn navigation to be activated, as well as the ability to control telephone calls and music selection. A Hazard Warning system is also integrated into the handlebar controls while anti-theft protection is provided via the immobiliser.

American Flat Track: Yamaha Senoia Short Track Is Saturday, March 23

2024 Progressive AFT Season Resumes with Yamaha Senoia Short Track

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 19, 2024) – Progressive American Flat Track, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing, returns to action with the second-ever Yamaha Senoia Short Track at Senoia Raceway in Senoia, Georgia on Saturday, March 23.

Last year’s inaugural visit proved to be a stunner, and this year’s rematch promises to be yet another as the stage is set with the series’ major players arranged in similar positions.

A year ago, reigning Mission SuperTwins champion Jared Mees (No. 1 Rogers Racing/SDI Racing/Indian Motorcycle FTR750) rebounded in Senoia following a podium-less double opener in Daytona with a virtuoso performance to defeat points leader Dallas Daniels (No. 32 Estenson Racing Yamaha MT-07 DT) at the stripe by 0.174 seconds.

That kickstarted a season-long duel between the two, ultimately won by Mees who used the Senoia triumph as a springboard to his nine–win, 15-podium season that culminated in a historic ninth Grand National Championship.

Now Mees finds himself equally in need of a bounce back after opening his quest for an unprecedented tenth premier-class crown with sixth- and fifth-place finishes in Daytona. By contrast, Daniels grabbed a share of the points lead with a double-podium opener, highlighted by a victory in the season’s first Main Event.

Mees and Daniels are far from the full story, however, as there is genuine hope that this year’s title fight will not only match last year’s incredible showdown but surpass it with the inclusion of additional contenders.

Chief among the prospective championship hopefuls are two-time Mission SuperTwins king Briar Bauman (No. 3 Rick Ware Racing/KTM/Parts Plus KTM 790 Duke) and co-points leader Brandon Robinson (No. 44 Mission Roof Systems Indian FTR750).

Bauman is in his second season aboard the Rick Ware Racing KTM 790 Duke, although he’s working with a new crew and operating a racebike was heavily overhauled during the offseason. That said, even with those changes, he showed impressive speed in the opener and has the skills to fight up front in any and every given outing.

Robinson, meanwhile, enjoyed a welcome return to form after going winless and finishing outside the championship top five for the first time since 2018 on both counts. His DAYTONA ST win provided clear evidence that he’s primed for a huge year in ‘24.

At least six brands of motorcycles have a legitimate shot to be in the mix for the top five this weekend considering their respective rider/team representation, which include the likes of Davis Fisher (No. 67 Rackley Racing/Bob Lanphere’s BMC Racing Indian FTR750), Brandon Price (No. 92 Memphis Shades/Corbin/OTBR Yamaha MT-07), Jarod Vanderkooi (No. 20 JMC Motorsports/Fairway Ford Ohio Indian FTR750), Johnny Lewis (No. 10 Moto Anatomy X Powered by Royal Enfield 650), and Dan Bromley (No. 62 Big Red Super Twins/Al Lamb’s Dallas Honda Transalp), along with rookies Trevor Brunner (No. 21 Mission Foods/Zanotti Racing KTM 790 Duke) and Max Whale (No. 18 Latus Motors Racing/Liqui Moly Harley-Davidson XG750R).

Parts Unlimited AFT Singles presented by KICKER

Preseason Parts Unlimited AFT Singles presented by KICKER title favorites Kody Kopp (No. 1 Rick Ware Racing/Parts Plus KTM 450 SX-F) and Tom Drane (No. 59 Estenson Racing Yamaha YZ450F) opened their ‘24 campaigns with one win apiece.

Double defending champion Kopp holds down the familiar position of points leader by backing up his win with a third, while Drane finds himself with some work to do after crashing on the final lap of the opener and being credited with 15th prior to his victorious rebound the following night.

While the two will have another opportunity to square off in Senoia, neither enjoyed their finest evening in last year’s inaugural stop at the circuit. Kopp finished fifth despite his usual Short Track supremacy, while Drane could only manage 13th – albeit it’s worth noting the result came before the Australian truly got up to speed and demonstrated his true caliber over the season’s final two-thirds.

While last year’s winner, Max Whale, has since graduated to Mission SuperTwins duty, ‘23 Senoia ST podium finishers James Ott (No. 19 1st Impressions/Media HT Husqvarna FC450) and Dalton Gauthier (No. 79 D&D Racing/Certified KTM 450 SX-F) are back and desperate to finish atop the box this time around.

The class traditionally offers up a bevy of potential race winners. This year is no exception in that respect with Chase Saathoff (No. 88 JPG Motorsports Honda CRF450R), Trent Lowe (No. 48 American Honda/Mission Foods CRF450R), Evan Renshaw (No. 265 American Honda/Mission Foods CRF450R), and Logan Eisenhard (No. 66 Hannum’s Harley-Davidson KTM 450 SX-F) only but a few of the entrants with the skill and determination to factor up front.

There will be plenty to keep fans entertained off the track as well, starting with a family-oriented pre-race party in the Fan Zone from 2:00 p.m. ET (11.00 a.m. PT) – 6:00 p.m. (3:00 p.m. PT) the day of the race. Other features include numerous vendors, plenty of food and beverage options, the Kids Zone, music, extensive motorcycle parking, and fireworks display at the end of the evening.

General Admission Grandstand tickets are just $40 (kids 12 and under $5), and Reserved Grandstand tickets start at $50 (all ages) with an option to add a Pit Pass at a reduced rate. The Pit Pass grants access to the General Admission areas and the Pit area for $60. Reserved Trackside Parking and Multi-Day Camping Passes are also available to purchase.

New for 2024 is the Opening Ceremonies Trackside Fan Experience ($150 all ages). This ticket option provides reserved seating with pit pass access, a guided tour of, and photo opportunities at, the infield podium and start/finish line, infield viewing of Opening Ceremonies and the heat races, and a track talk and photo opportunity with 2016 Grand National Champion Bryan Smith.

Ducati Reports Increased Profitability Despite Decreased Sales And Revenue

Ducati closes 2023 confirming its solidity with increasing profitability and revenue above one billion euros

For the second consecutive year, the revenue of the Borgo Panigale motorcycle manufacturer exceeds one billion euros

The operating result at the end of 2023 is the best ever for Ducati with 112 million euros, profitability increased compared to the previous year to 10.5%

Claudio Domenicali, CEO Ducati: “The results obtained by Ducati in 2023 confirm the validity of the strategic decisions and self-financed investment policy that we have been pursuing for several years. Strengthened by the goals achieved, we look to the future with determination and continue with the development plan of the brand and product range.”

Borgo Panigale, Bologna, 19 March 2024 – Ducati concludes 2023 with financial results that confirm the solidity of the Company and the validity of the strategic decisions made in recent years.

The operating result recorded in 2023 is the best ever for Ducati, with 112 million euros, and a corresponding level of company profitability that increased further compared to the previous year, reaching 10.5%.

Despite increasing competition on the international scene, and the difficulties experienced in the Chinese market, the revenue of the Borgo Panigale motorcycle manufacturer exceeds one billion euros for a second consecutive year, reaching 1,065 million euros, slightly below the record level reached in 2022 (1,089 million euros).

In 2023, 58,224 motorcycles were delivered to Ducatisti enthusiasts around the world. A result that, despite being slightly lower than 2022, places the past year as the third best in the Company’s history in terms of sales volume.

“The results obtained by Ducati in 2023 confirm the validity of the strategic decisions and self-financed investment policy that we have been pursuing for several years. We closed the fiscal year with a revenue that once again exceeded one billion euros and a record operating result, to which must be added the successes in racing which saw us become World Champions in MotoGP and WorldSBK for the second consecutive year”, declared Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati. “ Strengthened by the goals achieved, we look to the future with determination and continue with the development plan of the brand and the product range, with the desire to expand our presence towards new segments, speak to new motorcyclists and grow the community of Ducatisti. The entry into motocross planned for this year is proof of this.”

Henning Jens, Ducati CFO, added: ” 2023 was characterized by a global motorcycle market scenario with a growing competition and challenging economic situations around the world. Despite this, Ducati could close the year with a further improvement in profitability reaching 10.5% Return on Sales and a new record operating result. This was possible thanks to a very attractive model mix and a great focus on cost discipline and efficiency in all processes. The result also shows that Ducati operates with a clear strategy on a robust financial basis, delivering a good performance even in challenging years.”

For 2024, Ducati presented to the public seven new models which expand an increasingly sophisticated product range made up of technologically advanced motorcycles with a distinctive design.

Among the most anticipated models are certainly the new Hypermotard 698 Mono, with which Ducati makes its entry into the single cylinder supermoto segment, and the DesertX Rally, which takes the off-road capabilities of the DesertX family to a higher level thanks to professional components. But also, the Multistrada V4 RS, which with the Desmosedici Stradale engine combines the worlds of touring and super sports bikes in a single model, and the Multistrada V4 S Grand Tour, the touring motorcycle par excellence for those who love travelling over long distances.

More space is dedicated to collectible motorcycles. For 2024, Ducati presented two celebratory bikes that mark the 30th anniversary of the birth of two of the most iconic models in the history of the Bologna-based Company: the Panigale V4 SP2 30° Anniversario 916 and the Monster 30° Anniversario. Both in a numbered series limited to 500 units, with dedicated liveries and components.

For lovers of exclusivity, performance and craftsmanship, Ducati presented the Ducati Diavel for Bentley: a numbered edition limited to 500 units, inspired by the Bentley Batur and built on the technical base of the Diavel V4. A collaboration that only a motorcycle manufacturer like Ducati can propose and which unites the two brands in an affinity of vision made of technology and style.

Finally, for the most passionate Ducatisti, the five collectible Panigale dedicated to the successes achieved in the MotoGP, WorldSBK and WorldSSP championships have been created. Made with special liveries inspired by those of the Ducati Champions, the Panigale 2023 Replicas are made unique by the rider’s original signature on the tank and delivered with a certificate of authenticity, dedicated technical equipment and wooden shipping box.

Australian Superbikes Racing This Coming Weekend Under The Lights In Sydney

The stage is set for the greatest show under lights!

Days out from the opening session of round two of the mi-bike Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul (ASBK) at Sydney Motorsport Park (SMSP) on March 22-23, the momentum is building ahead of what promises to be a scintillating display of Superbike racing under lights at a world-class motorsport venue.

One of the marquee events on the Australian Superbike calendar, the prestige of racing under lights brings an added level of excitement to the weekend with race fans attending the event and tuning in through SBS Sport and livestream services guaranteed to be treated to an action-packed schedule as the nations best riders battle it out for glory in the primetime slot of the weekend.

With race weekend right around the corner, let’s take a moment to reminisce on key junctures of the venue, the story so far and highlight key elements that will keep race fans entertained.

A brief history of Australian Superbikes at SMSP, and a recap of the 2023 action

Opened in 1990, the western Sydney-based circuit is renowned for its fast and flowing lines that rewards driver commitment, especially through turn one.

Over its 35-year history, ASBK has hosted rounds at SMSP but took a three-year break following the 2019 season – returning the calendar in 2023 for the inaugural Night Race of the championship’s history at the circuit.

What a moment it was – to see the field of Alpinestars Superbike riders line up on the grid under lights was a testament to the growth of the championship and its commitment to bringing an exciting show to the fans that flock to the circuit, in the tourist capital of the nation.

Last year, it was McMartin Racing’s Josh Waters (Ducati) who proved to be the dominant figure of the premier class – taking the win in both races, each of which featured a red flag!

With Waters well ahead of a battle pack that included the likes of Cru Halliday (Yamaha), Troy Herfoss (Honda) and Glenn Allerton (BMW), the race was cut short on lap 11 when Mike Jones’ Yamaha stopped on the circuit.

With the race declared, the podium spots behind Waters were filled by Halliday and Herfoss.

Race two got underway with poor weather as rain caused havoc for the riders who tried their best to dodge the wet patches across the track, which saw the red flag come out after just three laps.

As the race re-started a short time later, it was every man for himself as Arthur Sissis (Yamaha), Halliday and Herfoss fought over the same piece of bitumen on the opening lap of the rescheduled eight-lap encounter.

With five laps to run, it was the early-season form-man Waters who stamped his authority on the field with a three-second lead and he was never headed thereafter – crossing the finish line to take the race and round win over Herfoss and Halliday.

The state of play – how it looks heading into SMSP

The opening round of the season held at Phillip Island on February 23-25 proved to be another edition of the Josh Waters show, as the Phillip Island fast-man again demonstrated his prowess at the Victorian-based circuit to clinch all three races, making it three consecutive round wins at the venue.

With the ASBK opener held alongside the Superbike World Championships annual visit down under, big crowds turned out to witness great racing across the weekend – which included a masterclass from the three representing classes of the ASBK championship including Alpinestars Superbike, Michelin Supersport, and Race and Road Supersport 300.

As Waters (Ducati) led from start to finish in all Alpinestars Superbike races, it was essentially a race of the ‘best of the rest’ behind the McMartin racer that included a standout performance on Superbike debut from 17-year old sensation Harrison Voight (Ducati), who held his own and battled hard against the upper echelon of the premier class.

Running wide and losing positions on the second lap of race one which relegated him to sixth, the young gun showed impressive resolve to fight his way to second by the chequered flag with Herfoss (Ducati), Halliday and Jones rounding out the top five.

Race two saw Herfoss move up on Voight to take second at the finish, while the final race of the weekend was short-lived after the Aprilia RSV4 of Matt Walters imploded in a massive plume of smoke at turn one.

The race was immediately red-flagged, with half points awarded.

A bright future is on the horizon in the support classes, as Jonathan Nahlous (Yamaha) took a clean sweep of race wins in Michelin Supersport while Olly Simpson (Yamaha) and Jake Farnsworth (Yamaha) were second and third in the round standings.

Czech rider Petr Svoboda (Kawasaki) had an impressive weekend in his one-off ‘down under’ appearance in Race and Road Supersport 300, taking victory in races one and two, before running off the circuit at the final corner of lap one in race three that dropped him to 21st position.

Despite an impressive fightback through the field, it wasn’t quite enough to get him to the front in an intense fight won by Harrison Watts (Kawasaki), where the top six were covered by less than one second!

Svoboda still finished as the round winner ahead of Josh Newman (Kawasaki) and Watts.

Get set for a great weekend under lights in Sydney!

As the momentum builds ahead of the ASBK Night Race, it’s set to be an awesome show under lights where the stars of the show come to the fore with the promise of spectacular primetime racing in the tourist capital of the nation.

Five classes will take to the track at SMSP:

Alpinestars Superbike;

Michelin Supersport;

Race and Road Supersport 300;

bLU cRU Oceania Junior Cup; and

The news ahead of race weekend has been coming thick and fast as well, including:

The ASBK Night Race is unique to SMSP that allows spectators to come after work on Friday afternoon, or at night, to catch all the qualifying action and the opening races for the bLU cRU Oceania Junior Cup, Superbike Masters, and Race and Road Supersport 300.

All general admission tickets will include access to the:

MotoGP: World Championship Heads To Portugal’s “Roller Coaster”

A ride like no other: MotoGP™ ready for the roller coaster

Strap in as the world’s most exciting sport returns to one of its most exciting racetracks

Monday, 18 March 2024

The opening nights of a record-breaking 2024 campaign gave us plenty to talk about as MotoGP™ heads for the Grande Premio Tissot de Portugal at the stunning Autodromo Internacional do Algarve. Podiums split by tenths, performances we’ll remember for quite some time, and a perfect opening gambit for the riders who will be aiming to lead from the front all season leaves us wanting more, more, more. So where were we?

OPENING STATEMENTS

Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) hit first with a Tissot Sprint win, throwing down the gauntlet with one of his biggest calling cards as soon as competition began. Then there was a similarly statement Sunday from reigning Champion Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) as the #1 bounced back from a podium-less Sprint to put in a near-perfect GP race. So he leads the standings as we head onto ground he’s ruled before – but it’s not ahead of Martin.

That former 2023 duel, likely to continue in 2024, has a familiar interloper as we arrive in Portugal thanks to two stunning performances from Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) though. The South African is second in the standings after taking second in both outings in Qatar, and he’s already beaten both Bagnaia and Martin on track. Can he do that again? At this venue, with its track records, the benchmark may well prove Bagnaia, so both Binder and Martin will be eager to attack from the off. The reigning Champion will also be well aware of that.

It was a solid first weekend for Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo Team) in Qatar but he’ll want more, and Alex Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) and Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) likewise. On the other side of the VR46 box it’s not just more but a LOT more that will be the aim for Marco Bezzecchi after a very tough Qatar, too. Franco Morbidelli (Prima Pramac Racing), meanwhile, continues in his game of catch up after missing pre-season. And then there’s Marc Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™).

It was a good opener for the eight-time World Champion under the floodlights, but there was no podium… yet. Can Portimao change that? He’s not (yet?) won at the venue, one of only four on the 2024 calendar he’s raced at and not reigned, but it’s more experience on the Ducati every time he pits out…

Speaking of more experience with every pit out, we arrive at Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3). Slicing up the order, setting the fastest lap and even attacking Marc Marquez, successfully, was quite a debut for the rookie sensation, so now it’s time to see if he can do it again. It’s a track he knows well from every class and even before, but there’s no MotoGP™ test ahead of the action this time – can he keep that roll going? Sophomore teammate Augusto Fernandez will hope experience plays into his hands here, and Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) will want to be taking back his own headlines as he did here last season.

TRACK RECORDS

At Aprilia, meanwhile, there’s also already plenty of success to build on. Home hero Miguel Oliveira (Trackhouse Racing) is now Long Lap penalty free to put in an assault on his home track, a venue he’s already won at in some style, and where last year with Aprilia he was impressing before bad luck intervened. It didn’t for Maverick Viñales (Aprilia Racing) though, and he was on the podium. Can he do it again?

Raul Fernandez (Trackhouse Racing) will want to carry forward his practice pace into more once the lights go out, and Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing) wants a Sunday with no hurdles. The number #41 looked like he could have kept attacking for another 100 laps by the end of the Sprint in Qatar but ran out of time, before Sunday was a tougher one. Can that get rewritten in Portimao?

THE FIGHT BACK TO THE FRONT

Former Portugal winner Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™) left Qatar with five points after a hard-earned P11 finish on Sunday, with progress an uphill battle as the likes of Ducati, KTM and Aprilia also made big steps over winter. But it’s all hands on deck, challenge accepted for the Iwata marque. Quartararo and new teammate Alex Rins will look to Portimao – a track the Frenchman has won at twice – as a better chance to close the gap as work and testing continues in the mission to move forward.

Castrol Honda LCR newcomer Johann Zarco fronted the HRC charge in Qatar as the Frenchman claimed P12 ahead of Joan Mir (Repsol Honda Team) in the GP race. The new arrival also qualified half a second clear of the other Hondas in an impressive start. Two points finishes is also a fair start for the marque as they work to build back to their former form, but they’ll want a lot more from Portimao as they put in more and more test hours thanks to the new concessions – especially after a trickier weekend for Takaaki Nakagami (Idemitsu Honda LCR) and Luca Marini (Repsol Honda Team).

How will the deck shuffle as we arrive into Round 2? Does anyone have an ace up their sleeve to take on the likes of Bagnaia, Binder and Martin? The rollercoaster will reveal all, so tune in this weekend for the Grande Premio Tissot de Portugal!

TISSOT SPRINT: 15:00 (UTC) on Saturday

GRAND PRIX RACE: 14:00 on Sunday

What’s happening at the #PortugueseGP

Thursday will be action-packed even before the engines fires up. The podcast is shown live at 15:00 local time welcoming Enea Bastianini, Ducati Lenovo Team rider, and it’s his first appearance. Fans will be able to submit questions via social media as ever. Then, there are two pre-event Press Conferences, at 16:00 and 16:35.

Alongside the Grand Prix action, the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Championship also joins the paddock for the first of eight events this year, staging two spectacular races each weekend. In Portugal, the first is on Saturday at 12:15 (UTC), before Race 2 at 16:10.

Moto2™: will the playbook flip again in Portugal?

Having gone winless in 2023, Alonso Lopez (Beta Tools SpeedUp) kickstarted his 2024 with an immaculate victory as the Spaniard fended off Barry Baltus (RW – Idrofoglia Racing GP) in Qatar. Baltus’ debut Moto2™ podium was 0.055s off being a first GP win as the duo enjoyed a phenomenal start to the season in the desert. As too did Sergio Garcia (MT Helmets – MSI), with the #3 pocketing his maiden Moto2™ rostrum in P3, just ahead of teammate Ai Ogura.

Meanwhile, some big names expected to fight at the front this year had a tougher start. Fermin Aldeguer (Beta Tools SpeedUp) and Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team) failed to get points on the board in P16 and P20, and they’ll both be craving big hauls on Sunday in Portimao to get their title hopes back on track. Meanwhile, Jake Dixon (CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team) was sidelined after a crash earlier in the weekend in Qatar, and we wait to see if the Brit will be back out this time round.

Will the pendulum swing again? Tune into the Moto2™ Portuguese GP at 12:15 local time (UTC) to find out.

Moto3™: Alonso vs Holgado round 2?

Last laps don’t get much better than what David Alonso (CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team) managed to put together in a Moto3™ Qatar GP thriller. The Colombian was P6 heading onto the last lap but picked his way to the front to claim 25 points ahead of Daniel Holgado (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3) and an excellent charge from Taiyo Furusato (Honda Team Asia) as the Japanese star bagged his second GP podium from 18th on the grid.

The likes of Jose Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo) and Ivan Ortola (MT Helmets – MSI) will be hunting for better fortunes in Portimao after the duo crashed in Qatar. Rueda DNF’d, but Ortola did manage to string a phenomenal recovery rider together to earn P9. We can bet there’s more to come from those two, so can the comeback start in Portugal? We’re about to find out. Watch the lightweight class do battle on the rollercoaster at 11:00 (UTC) on Sunday!

WorldSBK: Championship Resumes This Coming Weekend At Catalunya

Destination Barcelona: WorldSBK gears up for its 450th Round

What to look out for in Barcelona

World SBK

The Supported Test, held on Thursday 14th and Friday 15th, provided the WorldSBK grid with the opportunity to prepare for the Pirelli Catalunya Round.

It was Ducati’s Nicolo Bulega who dominated the Supported Test, having been fastest on both days of action.

Kawasaki’s Alex Lowes arrived in Barcelona leading the standings, closely followed by Rookie Nicolo Bulega.

The current Championship leader, Alex Lowes, is yet to clinch his first victory at the Circuito de Barcelona-Catalunya, the home race for Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK.

Meanwhile, Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) boasts mastery of the Catalan track with six wins to his name. His teammate, Nicolo Bulega, aims to maintain his strong season start and translate his efforts from the Supported Test into success.

After grappling with injury-related challenges at the Australian Round, Jonathan Rea (Pata Prometeon Yamaha) seeks to regain his pre-season form with the Yamaha YZF R1 at a circuit where he has secured two podium finishes. Teammate Andrea Locatelli, currently third in the standings, is determined to bounce back with a strong result after a technical issue prevented him from contending for victory in Race 2 of the Australian Round.

Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) is poised to debut at the Catalan venue with BMW. He had a successful Supported Test prior to the Round, which suggests that he will be among the fastest during the event. Meanwhile, teammate Michael van Der Mark has previously clinched a victory at this track with a different manufacturer. Together, they will focus on adapting their BMW M 1000 RR to the circuit and aim for a strong performance.

Scott Redding (Bonovo Action BMW) and Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Team Motocorsa Racing) have both also tasted victory at this circuit. While Team HRC’s duo, Xavi Vierge and Iker Lecuona, the latter returning from injury sustained at Phillip Island, are focused on enhancing their performance for their home round.

Yari Montella leads Championship charge into Pirelli Catalunya Round

What to look out for in Barcelona

Following his double win at Phillip Island, Yari Montella heads into the Pirelli Catalunya Round as the Supersport World Championship points leader, aiming to improve upon last year’s finishes at Barcelona, where he ended outside the top 10.

Marcel Schroetter will be a strong contender at the Circuito de Barcelona-Catalunya, building on his solid Australian campaign and impressive podium records at the Spanish circuit.

All eyes will be on Yari Montella (Barni Spark Racing Team), a double race winner, as he enters Barcelona. Having secured all three of his victories in Australia, Montella will be eager to affirm his status as a title contender with another strong performance in Barcelona. MV Agusta had a commendable weekend at the 2023 Catalunya Round, clinching a victory and achieving three podium finishes throughout the event. Following his impressive showing in the season’s opening round, where he secured two podium finishes, Marcel Schroetter (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) is one to watch out for.

The Aruba.it Racing WorldSSP Team, with a previous race win in Barcelona, holds the potential for another solid result, particularly with Adrian Huertas, who finished on the podium in the preceding race. Stefano Manzi (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing), starting his 2024 season with a second-place finish in Race 1, will be eager to rebound from his DNF in Race 2 at Phillip Island. Having finished on the podium in 2023, he remains a contender for victory. Can Oncu (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) also boasts a podium finish at the Circuito de Barcelona-Catalunya in 2022 and is determined to demonstrate his return to competitiveness after missing most of the 2023 season due to injury.

Charging into competition: WorldSSP300 set for 2024 season kickoff

The 2024 FIM Supersport 300 World Championship season ushers in a period of intense competition as riders prepare for fierce battles and thrilling races on the global stage, starting with the Pirelli Catalunya Round at the Circuito de Barcelona-Catalunya. With competitors hailing from renowned manufacturers such as Kawasaki, Yamaha, KTM, and Kove, each showcasing their distinct strengths and innovations, anticipation builds for an exhilarating showdown on the track in the upcoming WorldSSP300 season.

Grid updates

Reigning champion Jeffrey Buis (Freudenberg KTM-PALIGO Racing) sets out on a mission to defend his title after securing back-to-back championships in 2020 and 2023, making him the only two-time champion in the category. Transitioning to KTM, Buis seeks to etch his legacy deeper into WorldSSP300 history amidst a field of formidable competitors.

Mirko Gennai (MTM Kawasaki) emerges as one of the main competitors to Jeffrey Buis’s reign. Joining Buis’ former team, MTM Kawasaki, alongside Loris Veneman, Gennai brings his four-time race-winning prowess to the Championship, aiming to challenge the reigning champion’s dominance. Among the returning contenders are race winners from the 2023 season, including Matteo Vannucci (Pata Yamaha AG Motorsport Italia), Aldi Satya Mahendra (Team BrCorse), and Jose Manuel Osuna Saez (DEZA-BOX 77 Racing Team). While Bruno Ieraci (Team ProDina Kawasaki) also clinched victories as a wildcard entrant in the previous season, he returns full-time to the championship, as does Inigo Iglesias Bravo (Fusport-RT Motorsports by SKM-Kawasaki).

New regulations

In line with WorldSSP, the WorldSSP300 category experiences notable shifts in scheduling, with a significant change being the determination of grids for Race 2 based on the fastest laps recorded in Race 1. Additionally, the Tissot Superpole sessions occur on Friday following a morning Free Practice session.

Ducati Wins In Motocross Racing Debut

Historic debut of the Ducati Desmo450 MX in the Italian Motocross Championship

The Borgo Panigale prototype, ridden by Alessandro Lupino, wins race one and finishes second overall in the debut of Ducati in Motocross

The results in Mantua confirm the validity of the technical base of the Desmo450 MX prototype, competing in the Italian Prestige Championship, to develop the bike which will go into production in 2025

Mantua, 17 March 2024 – The Ducati Desmo450 MX ridden by Alessandro Lupino has taken pole position and victory on its debut in the Motocross Pro-Prestige MX1 Italian Championship, finishing second overall in the first round of 2024. The prototype marks Ducati’s entry into specialist off-road racing and represents the first step in a project that will see the birth of a complete range of off-road motorcycles, developed on the most demanding of race tracks.

In the first round of the Italian MX1 Championship, held on the International Circuit of Mantua, the eight-time Italian Champion, after having set the best benchmark both in free practice and in qualifying, led the opening heat from the first to the last lap. In the second heat, after a difficult start, Lupino finished seventh after a great comeback, sealing the second overall place in the round.

Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati Motor Holding: “This weekend in Mantua we wrote another chapter in the history of Ducati. Alessandro Lupino and our team gave us some great fun and, despite it being the first motocross race in our recent history, we immediately demonstrated outstanding performance. Best time in free practice, pole and victory in the first heat are truly a debut that lives up to expectations: we have gathered a lot of information which will be fundamental to best develop the bike that will be available to all enthusiasts next year. Congratulations to Alessandro and our entire off-road team, a fantastic start to a new story of sport and passion.”

Alessandro Lupino, official rider of the Ducati Corse R&D – Factory MX Team: “These were two very exciting days, my debut with the Ducati was truly a dream: they told me it would be, but today I experienced it! Feeling like a Ducatista is a truly special sensation. Congratulations to all the guys who worked on this project, because in a very short time they created a spectacular bike, with a lot of potential, doing an incredible job. Together we wrote a page of history: first pole and first heat victory for the Ducati Desmo450 MX. Unfortunately, the second heat didn’t go as I would have liked: I got the start wrong and wasn’t able to recover. But that’s okay, now the engineers have the data to analyse two completely different situations!”

Sunday’s two heats allowed Ducati engineers to collect the first important data to continue the development of the Desmo450 MX which, upon its debut, has confirmed the validity of the technical base of the prototype. The focus of the Ducati Off-Road project is a combination of the search for lightness pushed to the extreme, top-of-the-line components and engines characterized by a very broad delivery curve. The latter is obtained thanks to the utilization of the Desmodromic system, used on all the sports bikes of the Borgo Panigale company starting from MotoGP. Ducati is in fact the only company in the world that uses the same valve return system on its highest performing production motorcycles as it uses on racing prototypes.

The next round of the Italian Motocross Championship is scheduled for 27 and 28 April on the Cingoli (MC) circuit. In the meantime, the tests of the Ducati Corse R&D – Factory MX Team will continue together with Alessandro Lupino and Tony Cairoli, present in Mantua to support the eight-time Italian Motocross Champion.

MotoGP: Ducati Signs Aldeguer For 2025 And Beyond

Ducati Corse Announces Two-Season MotoGP Agreement with Fermín Aldeguer

The Spanish rider has signed an agreement that will see him ride a Desmosedici GP starting in 2025

Ducati Corse and Fermín Aldeguer are thrilled to announce their agreement, which will see the Spanish rider move up to MotoGP from the Moto2 category in 2025. Fermín will ride a Desmosedici GP for the next two years, with the option to extend the contract for another two years.

Aged 18, Aldeguer, hailing from La Ñora (Murcia, Spain), made his debut in the World Championship in 2021 directly in the Moto2 category, and he ended seventh in his debut race at Mugello (Italian GP). In 2022, Fermín completed his first entire season, and last year, he claimed his maiden victory and secured a third-place finish in the riders’ standings with five wins (four consecutive victories in the final four races), seven podium finishes, and three pole positions.

This year, Aldeguer continues to establish himself as one of the key contenders in the Moto2 World Championship, which commenced recently with the Qatar GP at the Lusail International Circuit.

Luigi Dall’Igna (Ducati Corse General Manager)

“I would like to welcome Fermín to the Ducati family warmly, and we can’t wait to see him riding our Desmosedici GP. I am thrilled with this agreement because Aldeguer is one of the strongest riders in the new generation of MotoGP. Over the last few years, we have followed his evolution; during the last season, he showed incredible speed. He is a very young guy with the potential and characteristics to do well, and we will give him all the technical support to help him grow.”

Fermín Aldeguer

“I’m ecstatic to have this opportunity; thanks to Ducati, I’ll realise the dream I’ve pursued since childhood. The time has arrived to take the big leap and compete with the world’s finest riders, and what’s more, I’ll be doing it with the best bike on the grid. I want to express my gratitude to Ducati, especially to Gigi Dall’Igna, for their faith in me from the beginning of our discussions. I extend my thanks to Luca Boscoscuro for everything we’ve shared and for what lies ahead of us this year. I’m also grateful to my family, my manager, Héctor Faubel, and everyone who, in one way or another, has contributed to my journey here. Now that I know what the future holds, it’s time to focus solely on this season, where I face a significant challenge in Moto2. I’ll give my all to leave this category with my head held high, aiming for the best possible results before embarking on the new adventure in MotoGP.”
