American Flat Track: Saddlemen Fielding Eslick, Garcia In AdventureTrackers

Saddlemen set for AFT AdventureTrackers with Garcia and Eslick on Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 Special

Long Beach, CA (July 24, 2024) – Saddlemen Race Development is pleased to announce the expansion of our racing efforts to the Progressive American Flat Track Series in the recently announced AFT AdventureTrackers class to be held at the Sturgis TT on Sunday, August 11. Adventure bikes are the fastest growing two-wheel segment, and with proven success on the Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 Special in the MotoAmerica SuperHooligans National Championship, the Saddlemen R&D Team had no hesitation putting together a program for the Sturgis TT.

Riding the #14 Harley-Davidson Pan America is former Saddlemen Race Development bagger racer Frankie Garcia. Garcia has a long history of big bike racing with a background in Super Hooligan flat track and road racing as well as being one of the pioneers of the very popular Mission King of the Baggers Championship.

“I’ve been psyched about this since I heard the first rumors about it,” says Garcia. “I’m a big supporter and fan of American Flat Track and love seeing the series evolve and expand into something new and exciting on top of their already established twins and singles classes. When I heard rumors about this new Adventure Tracker class, I was quick to ring the crew at Saddlemen and Harley-Davidson to try and put something together. I truly believe the H-D Pan America along with Saddlemen’s knowledge of the bike will be key to having success in this new class and I know it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Joining Garcia on an identically prepared Harley-Davidson Pan America will be Oklahoma’s Danny Eslick. Eslick, a multi time Daytona 200 winner and road racing champion, flat track racer and former bagger racer will be an incredible asset to the team at the Sturgis TT.

“This is really cool for me and sounds like it’s going to be a lot of fun,” Eslick explained. “I think with all my different backgrounds in racing so many styles of bikes and disciplines, this kind of racing will be right up my alley. I’m stoked for the opportunity to be a part of something new in the AFT series and hopefully I’ll be able to come out on top.”

Saddlemen Race Development would like to thank our sponsors and partners in our effort to go AFT AdventureTracker racing including Harley-Davidson, Screamin’ Eagle, Mission Foods, Motul, NAMZ Custom Cycle Products, Bell Helmets, Barnett Clutches, Regina Chain, K&N Filter, Suicide

WHEN LEGENDS UNITE! YAMAHA RACING HERITAGE CLUB BRINGS TOGETHER RACING HISTORY AT JEREZ

The Yamaha Racing Heritage Club took a starring role at the recent Yamaha Racing Experience at Jerez, bringing together racing legends such as Valentino Rossi and Luca Cadalora alongside the manufacturer’s current crop of WorldSBK and Endurance World Championship riders at the Circuito de Jerez Angel Nieto on some iconic two-stroke machinery.

The Yamaha Racing Heritage Club (YRHC) was established to safeguard and celebrate Yamaha’s rich racing legacy, and what better way to do that than by inviting members and some legendary riders to the exclusive two-day Yamaha Racing Experience (YRE) in Spain?

The glorious weather at Jerez was matched only by the incredible lineup of World Championship-winning Yamaha riders. Nine-time Grand Prix World Champion Rossi was joined by three-time Grand Prix World Champion Cadalora, along with Yamaha’s current WorldSBK riders, including six-time Superbike World Champion Jonathan Rea and his Pata Prometeon Yamaha teammate, 2020 WorldSSP Champion Andrea Locatelli, plus double WorldSSP Champion (2021 & 2022) Dominique Aegerter.

On top of this, the reigning FIM Endurance World Champions, Yamalube YART Yamaha EWC Official Team’s Niccolò Canepa, Karel Hanika, Marvin Fritz, and Robin Mulhauser also got to join the fun. With all of these superstar riders, the 2024 YRE was always going to be an epic event, but the Yamaha Racing Heritage Club pit box proved to be a major highlight and won the praise of the “coolest garage” from Canepa.

One of the main reasons for this was down to YRHC members bringing some of the most iconic two-stroke bikes from the last few decades to Spain. The undoubted stars of the show were the immaculately maintained Eddie Lawson YZR500s, his title-winning 1986 0W81 and his 1987 0W86, as well as Cadalora’s 1990 YZR250 0WB9 that he rode to third in the championship that year, all generously provided by the Battisti family, following the death of one of the founder members of the YRHC and legendary motorcycle collector Luciano Battisti last year.

Other bikes that were a hit with the riders were the two beautiful 2001 YZR500 0WL6 replicas, one in Max Biaggi’s colours from that year and the other based on Alex Hoffman’s 2002 Yamaha livery, lovingly built from the ground up by YRHC members Carlo Mattarozzi and Alex Arletti.

There were also three YRHC TZ750 replicas, one based on the TZ750D Christian Sarron rode to second in the 1977 Formula 750 Championship, one based on the YZR750 15x World Champion Giacomo Agostini rode to his last World Championship race victory in 1977, and another based on the YZR750 that Johnny Cecotto won the Formula 750 title on in 1978.

The only issue with such an impressive lineup of bikes and riders was deciding who would get to ride what. When the event kicked off, Rossi immediately jumped at the chance to hit the track on Lawson’s 1986 YZR500, which was the first time “The Doctor” had ridden a 500cc two-stroke GP bike since MotoGP switched to the four-stroke era in 2002.

Rea joined him riding the 0W86, with Cadalora on his YZR250, making for a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle of a trio of white and red Yamaha two-stroke GP bikes streaking around the Jerez circuit.

Rea summed it up best by describing the experience as, “Riding around on the YZR500s with Valentino just in front of me was a real “pinch yourself” moment, and something I will never forget!”

The Northern Irishman also got to bring back some memories later in the event when he went out on the TZ750 Agostini replica, a bike similar to one his Grandfather used to own. “Getting to ride the Giacomo Agostini TZ750 was a special moment for me, as my dad used to have one in his garage and sponsored Joey Dunlop when he rode one, so that was an emotional moment.”

Another highlight was Locatelli riding the Biaggi replica 0WL6, one of the last two-stroke GP bikes of its era, as the Italian fulfilled a childhood dream: “To ride that bike was amazing. I grew up watching him race on TV and imagined riding that very bike. I wasn’t disappointed. It was really fast, the tyres and brakes were good, and honestly, it was a dream come true to ride it around Jerez.”

Canepa was also delighted to get his hands on the Biaggi replica, stating, “The power comes so aggressively, you have to be really careful. But when you start to understand the engine character, you can really enjoy it, and the power it delivers is fantastic. Plus, of course, the sound is incredible! It is impressive how light and nice it is to ride this bike, even compared to modern bikes, and it was a real dream come true to ride one of the last ever two-stroke 500 GP bikes.”

The Italian also described Sarron’s TZ750 replica as “a beast!” while Locatelli was in awe when he got to ride Agostini’s YZR750 replica: “It is so different from my current bike, but it still has so much power, and you have to ride it with a completely different style, but I really enjoyed it!”

After two days of sensational track action in Jerez, the next event on the YRHC 2024 calendar is the Veterans Motocross des Nations (VMXoN) at Foxhills from the 22nd to the 25th of August, which will feature three-time 125cc MX World Champion Alessio Chiodi, alongside a display of historic Yamaha off-road bikes.

Barcelona, Spain: Roadsters will never be the same again, nor will the roads, as Royal Enfield today launched its premium modern roadster – the Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450; a motorcycle meant to remind the world what roadsters were really meant to be – kinetic, intuitive and eager to play throughout its wide power band. Precisely engineered to be raw, responsive and for visceral riding experience, the Guerrilla 450 is a powerful, versatile and sophisticated motorcycle meant to deliver pure, primal fun, be it the weekday hustle through traffic snarls, a spirited Sunday morning zip through twisties, or long-haul rides on lazy roads.

The Guerrilla 450 is a motorcycle that embodies character, substance and defiance, much like Royal Enfield’s fiercely unique journey of building motorcycles that stand apart from the rest. The ‘guerrilla’ in Royal Enfield has been evident in its portfolio of class-defining and award-winning motorcycles that have challenged dreary monotony, and have been developed for one purpose alone; the pure fun of motorcycling. The Guerrilla 450 marks a significant  evolution in the long and storied legacy of strong roadsters from Royal Enfield that continue to lead categories.

Speaking about the Guerrilla 450, Siddhartha Lal, Managing Director – Eicher Motors Ltd. said, “The Guerrilla 450 is our take on modern roasters, and we are super happy with how it has turned out. The motorcycle is mechanically characterful, super sophisticated, and combines  performance, versatility and confidence-inspiring handling. It is built on the same platform as the Himalayan, but tuned to roadster performance that makes it feel excitingly different when you ride it. The Guerrilla really brings out what roadsters were always meant to do. It is super responsive and absolutely gorgeous to ride at everyday speeds, and equally delightful when revved through its paces on full-gas. The engine, the chassis, the riding position, and the superlative handling of the motorcycle all come together to truly make it much more than the sum of its parts”

The Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 will also be called the Royal Enfield GRR 450 in most of the Latin American markets. The lineup features three variants – Analogue, Dash and Flash – and five vibrant colourways. Bookings in India open today at an introductory price of INR 2,39,000 with test rides and retails beginning on August 1, 2024. In Europe as well, bookings begin today at a starting price of £ 4,850 MSRP in the UK and € 5,290 MSRP in Germany with retails expected to begin mid-August (Details on countries, variants and pricing in the table below)

Speaking about the new motorcycle, B Govindarajan, CEO – Royal Enfield said, “The Guerrilla 450 is an absolutely gorgeous and game changing roadster. When we started with the Sherpa 450 platform, we envisaged an adventure tourer and a superlative roadster that would be distinctly Royal Enfield. The Guerrilla 450 is just that – a roadster full of character and confidence. Developed in parallel with the Himalayan, the Guerrilla is tuned to perfection for city riding as well as weekend rides through twisty roads. It has amazing on-road handling, coupled with accessible power delivery, and superb chassis dynamics enhance the character of the motorcycle and offer amazing performance, stability and easy manoeuvrability. We’ve had a great time testing this motorcycle and riding it around the world. It really grows on you, and allows you to grow in confidence as a rider”

The All-Roadster

The Guerrilla 450 premium roadster is engineered for all kinds of tarmac. With the characterful 452cc Sherpa engine tuned for exciting roadster performance, a steel twin spar tubular frame, a dynamic riding stance that allows upright posture or a slightly sporty lean-in, the Guerrilla 450 truly goes back to OG roadster basics. Its dynamic ergonomics and sprightly performance lend it unparalleled versatility and responsiveness that make for a delightful ride. Whether it is a tucked-in, lean forward, full-gas sprint over twisty routes, or tackling rough city-streets and traffic snarls, a lazy Sunday morning ride, or a weekend haul over long distances, the Guerilla is eager and pliant to do it all, making it a true ‘all-roadster’

GRR – More growl for the prowl

The Guerrilla 450 is powered by the new and advanced 452cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled Sherpa engine and is engineered for an eager and spirited roadster performance. This powertrain debuted in the award-winning Himalayan 450 adventure tourer and has since gained huge appreciation. Equipped with a 4-valve DOHC setup, the Guerrilla 450 delivers an impressive 40 PS (39.5 HP) at 8,000 rpm and 40 NM (29.5 lbs.-ft.) of peak torque at 5,500 rpm, with more than 85% of this torque available starting at 3,000 rpm. Its water-cooled system features an integrated water pump, twin-pass radiator, and internal bypass, ensuring optimal temperature control for peak performance in any condition. The 6-speed gearbox with assist and slip clutch enhances high-speed cruising comfort and adds an extra layer of safety that makes the Guerrilla 450 a true testament to Royal Enfield’s innovative spirit and engineering excellence.

Return of the Real Roadster

Nothing out there looks and rides like the Guerrilla 450; it is packed with sophistication, intuition and sensation. It features a stepped bench-seat, a 11 litre fuel tank, LED headlights, trafficators with integrated tail lamp, and an upswept silencer. Without any flashy features or pointless plastics, the Guerrilla has an athletic build with perfect angles, purposeful edges, and muscles in all the right places. Stripped of distractions and engineered with purpose and authenticity, the Guerrilla 450 pays homage to the OGs of roadsters. With its sleek design, performance-led riding geometry and premium build quality, the Guerrilla 450 challenges the norms, bringing a fresh approach to motorcycling.

Intuitive Riding Ergonomics

The ergonomics on the Guerrilla 450 are designed to work in harmony with different riding styles, enabling riders to handle everything from fast-flowing sweeping open roads, to tight technical switchbacks. The rider geometry ensures that the stance remains upright thanks to the low seat and mid-set footpegs. With a dynamic chassis the Guerrilla 450 is engineered for agility and quick handling, offering stable yet light handling and easy manoeuvrability. The 43mm telescopic front fork and linkage-type mono-shock at the rear boost rider confidence without sacrificing comfort. Paired with 17-inch front and rear tubeless tires and 1440 mm wheelbase, the motorcycle maintains exceptional stability and control, ensuring a planted and stable, yet nimble ride. This engaging and responsive riding dynamic makes the Guerrilla 450 ideal for city commuting and spirited rides on winding roads, striking a balance between practicality and performance.

Switch moods. Switch Modes

The Guerrilla 450 offers a dynamic riding experience tailored to the moods of the rider, thanks to its ultra-responsive Engine Management System (EMS) and ride-by-wire technology. With Performance Mode and Eco Mode, the rider can change the throttle response to suit their mood and riding conditions. Whether efficiently navigating bustling city streets or having more power to the throttle over twisties and open roads, this motorcycle allows the rider to have more fun with every ride.

Enabled by technology, not defined by it

The top and mid variant of the Guerrilla comes with the new Tripper Dash, a 4-inch infotainment cluster that offers a simple, intuitive user interface. The Tripper Dash, supported by the RE App, now has enhanced features like Route-recording which can be exported in GPX format, enabling the rider to share experiences with their peers. The GPX file can be imported from any device to relive and recreate the ride experience. Beyond navigation, the interface offers music control, weather forecasts, and comprehensive vehicle information. Royal Enfield Wingman will also be made available in the Guerrilla, sold as an MIY feature, enabling the rider to stay connected with the motorcycle and Royal Enfield GRID support at all times.

Royal Enfield GMA and Apparel

Genuine Motorcycle Accessories for the Guerrilla 450 are meticulously crafted, elevating both style and functionality. With inspirations taken from the Flat-Track scene and Urban riding, the accessories include large engine guards and sump guards, urban seat that adds to style and better saddle comfort, and tinted flyscreen and blacked out mirrors that enhance ride experience. The Flat Track inspiration is evident in the bench seat, silver sump guard, headgrill, halcyon black instrument cowl. One can additionally opt for compact engine guards, bar-end mirrors with supporting mounts for enhanced ride and aesthetics. The Guerrilla 450 comes with versatile luggage solutions like soft panniers for city adventures.

The Guerrilla 450 apparel range denotes Royal Enfield’s take on urban moto-culture. The T-shirts, caps and headgears are specially designed to appeal to the growing community of young and style-conscious riders. With the launch of the Guerrilla 450 roadster, Royal Enfield has introduced a new Crossroader riding jacket – India’s first riding jacket with 100% Titanium sliders. The CE certified class A jacket offers superior air-flow with dual-sport fitting thereby encouraging riders to explore the streets with safety, comfort and style.

MRA: Hendry, Yee Victorious At Round Five

Hendry and Yee secure victories at Round 5 High Plains Raceway

Byers, CO – The fifth round of the 2024 MRA Championship Series took place at High Plains Raceway over the weekend of July 20-21st on their 2.00-mile West Course configuration.

The Race of the Rockies qualifying on Sunday was conducted under excellent conditions as temperatures were around 75 degrees for most of the morning. Brad Hendry claimed pole position with a best time of (1:24.418) followed by Kreece Elliot (1:25.000) and Jeremy Ross (1:25.450).

The start of Race of the Rockies (RoR) GTO saw Hendry get the holeshot going into turn one, followed closely by Elliot and Ross. Hendry was able to lay down an excellent first lap giving him a half-second lead by the end of lap one. On lap two, Gage Mollman put an excellent move on Ross and took over third position. Elliot, still in second place, was doing his best to stay with Hendry. By the end of lap three, Hendry had edged his lead out to 2.5 seconds on Elliot. On lap seven, Ross was making a comeback on Mollman and was within striking distance of retaking second place. Unfortunately for Ross, a slight mistake in turn two caused him to go down, retiring him from the remainder of the race. By lap nine, Hendry had extended his lead to over five seconds, making it nearly impossible for Elliot to form any type of a comeback. Hendry led the remainder of the race, and secured his fourth RoR victory of the season. Rounding out the podium was Elliot in second, and Mollman in third.

In Race of the Rockies GTU, Justen Behmer, Ken Yee, and Dennis Stowers all got off the line with decent starts. For the first few laps, Behmer led the trio and did an excellent job of fending off Yee. On lap four, Yee got an excellent drive out of turn three and passed Behmer going into turn four. Behmer, riding excellent all weekend, stayed right on Yee’s tail. Stowers could not match their pace being that he was still coming to grips riding a borrowed bike for the weekend. Yee and Behmer were able to pull out a five-second lead on Stowers by the end of lap five. On lap six, Yee got his head down and put a one-second gap on Behmer. For the remainder of the race, Yee continued to build his lead, ultimately taking victory by eight seconds on Behmer, who finished in second. Stowers rounded out the podium in third.

Next up, the MRA heads back to High Plains Raceway in Byers, CO for Round 6 on August 10-11 for a full weekend of racing including the SuperStreet event on Saturday afternoon. SuperStreet gives street riders the opportunity to experience motorcycle road racing with minimal cost and preparation. MotoGP: Simon Crafar Replaces Freddie Spencer On FIM Stewards Panel

Simon Crafar to become Chairman of FIM MotoGP™ Stewards Panel from 2025

The New Zealander will take over from Freddie Spencer in the role as the American concludes his tenure at the end of 2024.

Simon Crafar can now be confirmed as the next Chairman of the FIM MotoGP™ Stewards Panel. Crafar, a 500cc Grand Prix winner and long-time pit reporter for the MotoGP™ International Programme Feed, will take on the new role from 2025.

The New Zealander will take over from the outgoing Freddie Spencer, as the MotoGP™ Legend has taken the decision to step away from his position at the conclusion of the 2024 season.

Spencer’s tenure began in 2019 upon creation of the position of Chairman of the FIM MotoGP™ Stewards Panel as a stand-alone role. The Chairman of the panel is nominated by the teams’ association (IRTA), and their appointment then approved by the Permanent Bureau.

Alongside the Chairman, the panel is completed by two other Stewards, both of whom are nominated by the FIM and approved by the Permanent Bureau.

Simon Crafar can now be confirmed as the Chairman of the FIM MotoGP™ Steward Panel from 2025, to work alongside current FIM MotoGP™ Stewards Andrés Somolinos and Tamara Matko.

Freddie Spencer: “It’s been a pleasure to have been the first Chairman of the panel, and to have worked to put in place the incredible people and procedures we have now. When I was asked to be the Chairman, I accepted as I wanted to contribute to the sport and I’m proud of my tenure. I’m looking forward to some exciting projects in the future, and I know the team will be in great hands with Simon.”

Simon Crafar: “I’m really looking forward to taking on this new challenge. I did not take the decision lightly to make this change and accept this appointment, as it means leaving a role I’ve enjoyed a lot, but after seven years in MotoGP commentary I am ready for something new. I will approach this new position utilising my experience on and off the bike as rider, technician, coach and journalist, but more importantly with my love for our sport and respect for its competitors. I feel honored to be trusted with this responsibility and to have been nominated for the role.”

AHRMA: Roper And Spargo Win Vintage Cup Races At Laguna Seca

Spargo and Roper split AHRMA 2024 Vintage Cup wins at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca

(Knoxville, TN)  A decisive win and a missed opportunity add a chapter to historic motorcycle racing at a historic track.

On July 20 and 21, the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA) brought Rounds 12 and 13 of its 2024 Vintage Cup series to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca as part of the 2024 Bridgestone Tires AHRMA Roadracing Series.  The 2024 Vintage Cup highlights AHRMA’s 350 GP class.

Christopher Spargo travelled from Minnesota to California in the chase for Vintage Cup championship points.  Spargo took the win on Saturday aboard John Turner’s two-stroke 1967 Yamaha TD2 while David Roper racing his custom 1973 Harley-Davidson Aermacchi Sprint took the win on Sunday.

Sponsored by Hagerty Insurance, Roadracingworld.com, and NYC Norton (nycnorton.com), AHRMA’s 2024 Vintage Cup features the 350 GP class which includes 350cc four-stroke and 250cc two-stroke powered machines built up to and including 1968.  Featured bikes from this era would include bikes such as the AJS 7R “Boy Racer”, 350 Manx Norton, Benelli 350-Four, Aermacchi 350 Road Racer, Yamaha TD2, and more.

In Saturday’s race Spargo had the hole shot into turn one, maintaining and increasing his lead with the powerful TD2 Yamaha throughout the race to take the checkered flag unchallenged.  Meanwhile Roper and Walt Fulton, who was also on a custom 1973 Harley-Davidson Aermacchi Sprint battled for second, Roper ultimately succeeding with Fulton hot on his heels to take third place.

The balance of the grid in order of finish included: Matthew Winiarski, riding a 1968 Ducati 350 Mark 3 and David Rhodes, on his 1966 Yamaha TD1.

“Roper and Fulton put on one of the best races of the day battling for second place, sounding like a synchronized B25 bomber as they climbed the hill toward the famous turn one kink on the front straight of Laguna Seca,” said Kenny Cummings of NYC Norton.

On Sunday, Spargo missed the start of the race, allowing Roper and Fulton to repeat their sonic and visual duel from Saturday putting on a beautiful show of 350GP racing motorcycles with Roper getting the win, Fulton second and Winiarski third. Spargo ultimately made it into the race and clicked off the fastest laps of the weekend, managing to take fourth place and a handful of Vintage Cup championship points.

“it’s a shame Spargo missed the race calls and came out late because judging by his fast times he would have been on top of the box.  In any case Roper and Walt did not disappoint and their beautiful Harley-Davidson Aermacchis were substance and style in this beautiful California atmosphere,” shared Kenny Cummings. “This race for the championship is up for grabs and I’m very anxious to see how things play out for AHRMA’s next rounds at Blackhawk Farms, the first weekend of August.”

Greg “GT” Tomlinson, 2024 Chairman of the AHRMA Board of Trustees said, “Chris Spargo’s lap times proved he was the racer to beat this weekend and while he didn’t take the win on Sunday, it was awesome to see him put his head down, get to work, and try to chase a podium spot, he was a man on fire!”

Rounds 14 and 15 of the AHRMA National Road Race Series will be August 2-4 at Blackhawk Farms Raceway in South Beloit, IL.

The annual Vintage Cup spotlights one of AHRMA’s road racing classes with extra attention on competitors in the selected class during each race event. Enhanced awards for the Vintage Cup competitors are presented separately from other class trophies during the Saturday awards ceremony at each AHRMA National Road Race event. Highlights from each Vintage Cup race will be reported in RoadRacingWorld.com’s online edition. At the conclusion of each season, the perpetual Vintage Cup trophy will be engraved with the national champion winner’s name and presented to the winner at the National Awards Banquet to keep for one year.

American Flat Track: Daniels Injured, Beach Filling In At Peoria TT (Updated)

Estenson Racing’s Dallas Daniels broke his femur while training for the upcoming Peoria TT. The [American Flat Track Mission] SuperTwins points leader underwent a successful surgery and hopes to return to action as soon as possible. He will undergo further evaluation regarding the recovery process and duration. An update will follow at a later date.

Eight-time TT winner JD Beach will fill in for Daniels at this weekend’s 77th running of the Peoria TT.

“First and foremost, I’m heartbroken for Dallas and the Estenson team. I’ve been lucky enough to have been around Dallas quite a bit since he was 15. We have trained together a lot and traveled together. I want to thank the Tytlers Cycle Racing team for letting me help my old team out and help field the bike at the TT. Peoria has been a track I’ve enjoyed and have been successful at. I’m going to give it my all.” – JD Beach

More, from a press release issued by AFT:

Daniels Out, Beach in for 77th World Famous Peoria TT

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 24, 2024) – The time has finally arrived for the annual running of the World Famous SC2 Peoria TT presented by Backyards Saloon at the Peoria Motorcycle Club’s spectacular natural amphitheater in Peoria, Illinois, on Sunday, July 28. One of motorsports’ longest running and most fabled events, the 77th edition will serve as Round 11 of the 2024 Progressive American Flat Track season, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing.

The Grand National Championship outlook entering this weekend’s Peoria TT shifted radically with the shocking news that championship leader and local hero Dallas Daniels (No. 32 Estenson Racing Yamaha MT-07 DT) will be unable to participate for the foreseeable future after suffering a broken femur in a training accident on Sunday.

Now recovering after undergoing successful surgery on Monday, the development is obviously a devastating blow to both Daniels and the Estenson Racing outfit after the rising star had built up 19-point advantage in the Mission AFT SuperTwins title fight on the strength of a perfect podium record.

While their premier-class championship ambitions have almost certainly put on hold until the 2025 season, Estenson Racing will move forward in the best possible manner this weekend by recruiting JD Beach (No. 95 Estenson Racing Yamaha MT-07 DT) to rejoin the effort in substitute duty. Beach, who shifted his focus back to Superbike racing this season, is one of the greatest TT riders in the history of the sport and the winner of the last three Peoria TTs while competing for Estenson Racing.

Daniels’ misfortune also has a massive impact on the quest of Jared Mees (No. 1 Rogers Racing/SDI Racing/Indian Motorcycle FTR750) to secure an unprecedented tenth Grand National Championship. A victory this weekend would move him that much closer to history while providing him with one of the few significant accomplishments he has yet to attain during his decorated dirt track career. The reigning champ has come close to winning here on numerous occasions over the years, having finished as the race’s runner-up a full seven times.

To do so, Mees will not only have to get past Beach, he’ll also need to overcome his long-time rival, Briar Bauman (No. 3 Rick Ware Racing/KTM/Parts Plus KTM 790 Duke). Bauman stood atop the podium at Peoria in 2019 and has repeatedly reminded the world of that form in the years since, regularly pushing Beach at the front.

The weekend will also be pivotal for third-ranked Brandon Robinson (No. 44 Mission Roof Systems Indian FTR750). Unlike his championship foes, Robinson does not come in with an extensive history of TT success. However, he has improved his form at Peoria in recent seasons, developing himself into a regular top-ten finisher. He needs to continue that upward trend and push for a top five in order to reignite his title hopes, currently just 11 points shy of Mees and with six rounds left in which to close that gap.

Several riders have spoiler potential, led by the likes of Jarod Vanderkooi (No. 20 JMC Motorsports/Fairway Ford Ohio Indian FTR750), who has taken three consecutive top fives at Peoria.

Other veterans to keep tabs on include Davis Fisher (No. 67 Rackley Racing/Bob Lanphere’s BMC Racing Indian FTR750), Dalton Gauthier (No. 79 Moto Anatomy X Powered by Royal Enfield 650), and Dan Bromley (No. 62 Memphis Shades/Vinson/Al Lamb’s Dallas Honda Transalp).

Meanwhile, a pair of 450cc winners at Peoria have stepped up to the Mission AFT SuperTwins ranks in ’24 with the high-profile additions of Trevor Brunner (No. 21 Mission Foods/Zanotti Racing KTM 790 Duke) and Max Whale (No. 18 Latus Motors Racing/Liqui Moly Harley-Davidson XG750R).

Parts Unlimited AFT Singles presented by KICKER

No matter who wins this weekend in Parts Unlimited AFT Singles presented by KICKER competition, it is guaranteed that a new name will achieve Peoria TT immortality with no past event winners gracing this year’s entry list.

Prior to Brunner’s victory a year ago, both reigning class champion Kody Kopp (No. 1 Rick Ware Racing/Parts Plus KTM 450 SX-F) and rival Tom Drane (No. 59 Estenson Racing Yamaha YZ450F) appeared destined to grab their first Peoria TT checkered flags before their respective efforts were undone by a pair of red flags. Title leader Kopp and third-ranked Drane – who have combined to win eight of ten races this season in addition to last year’s Peoria TT speed – are rightly viewed as the pre-race favorites.

Meanwhile, Illinois native Chase Saathoff (No. 88 JPG Motorsports Honda CRF450R) comes in fresh off a home-state victory in DuQuoin with hopes of making it two straight with his friends and family cheering him on. Saathoff has yet to podium at Peoria, but his fifth- and sixth-place finishers in his two prior attempts made his potential to excel at the circuit obvious.

The lack of a proven Peoria master leaves the door wide open for others to step forward and further their championship standing. Sitting just behind the top three is Trent Lowe (No. 48 American Honda/Mission Foods CRF450R), who is still seeking his first win on the season after claiming a pair a year ago.

James Ott (No. 19 1st Impressions Race Team Husqvarna FC450) has at last found his form, taking his first podium of the year last time out. That result came as his fourth top five in his most recent five starts, allowing him to both close on Lowe in fourth and open up a bit of separation in fifth ahead of fellow Californians Travis Petton IV (No. 82 ECG Racing/A.M Ortega KTM 450 SX-F), Tarren Santero (No. 75 Vinson Construction/P&M Motorcycles Honda CRF450R) and Tyler Raggio (No. 55 Raggio Racing/Sluggo Racing KTM 450 SX-F).

And rising forces Evan Renshaw (No. 265 American Honda/Mission Foods CRF450R) and Logan Eisenhard (No. 66 Hannum’s Harley-Davidson KTM 450 SX-F) would love to make waves this weekend with a big outing.

There will be plenty beyond just the race action for fans to enjoy throughout the day on Sunday, including numerous vendors, expansive food and beverage options, and dedicated motorcycle parking.

General Admission Grandstand tickets are just $35 (kids 12 and under free with a paid adult General Admission ticket), while VIP Pass tickets, which include admission to the Turn 1 VIP lounge are $150 (all ages).

Yamaha Proudly Sponsors AMA® Vintage Motorcycle Days and Celebrates With “Weekend of Champions”

Yamaha is pleased to announce its support of the AMA®’s annual Vintage Motorcycle Days event scheduled to take place this weekend (July 26th-28th) at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.

AMA® Vintage Motorcycle Days, which typically draws upwards of 40,000 enthusiasts, is truly a “bucket list” gathering for motorcycle lovers, and features vintage racing, bike shows, the nation’s largest and best swap meet, and much more.

This year’s Grand Marshal for the event — which celebrates the AMA®’s 100th Anniversary (1924 – 2024) — will be legendary Yamaha MX Champion Broc Glover. In honor of this year’s event, Yamaha will feature its famed “Weekend of Champions” meet-and-greet and autograph session, with scheduled Yamaha Champions Steve Baker, Damon Bradshaw, Gary Jones, Rich Oliver, Doug Dubach, Thomas Stevens, and event Grand Marshal Broc Glover.

“We are thrilled to have Yamaha as a presenting sponsor of our Vintage Motorcycle Days event,” said AMA® Editorial Director Mitch Boehm. “With Broc serving as Grand Marshal, it was a natural for Yamaha to bring back some of its legendary riders to interact with fans.”

Q & A and autograph sessions are scheduled for Friday (1:30 PM) and Saturday (12:30 PM) in the AMA® Hall of Fame Fan Zone in the Mid-Ohio infield.

“Racing has truly been at the heart and soul of Yamaha since the first YA-1 model rolled off the line in 1955,” said Steve Nessl, Marketing Manager for Yamaha Motorsports. “And supporting this event by bringing back just a few riders who contributed so much to our brand image for the fans is also a great way to cap off our 50th Anniversary Celebration for the YZ® line!”

Learn more about AMA® Vintage Motorcycle Days at VintageMotorcycleDays.com. Tickets for the 100th Anniversary event are available at the Mid-Ohio gate all weekend long, and online at MidOhio.com.
