Tissot Superpole Highlights

  • Toprak Razgatlioglu claimed his fourth consecutive Superpole success. The ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team rider ended the session with an advantage of just over one tenth of a second
  • Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) was Razgatlioglu’s nearest challenger. The Englishman claimed his second consecutive front row start
  • Danilo Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team) made it three different manufacturers on the front row. He narrowly ousted Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) in the closing moments of the 15 minute sessions

Race 1 Highlights

  • Razgatlioglu became the third rider in WorldSBK history to win 11 races in a row. His run of success stretches back to the Dutch Round at Assen. The Turkish star will try to make history during tomorrow’s Tissot Superpole Race. Razgatlioglu now leads the championship by 80 points from Bulega
  • The 20 lap race saw a gaggle of riders fighting it out at the front throughout. Lowes led in the early stages having taken the holeshot before Petrucci led until the final third of the race. Razgatlioglu led eight laps and would eventually win by just eight tenths of a second after a race long battle at the front
  • From the second row of the grid Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) endured a difficult start to the 20 lap race and dropped to 13th position during the opening laps. The Spaniard recovered to come through the pack to finish second. This was his best result since Round 3 at Assen. The double World Champion is now 29 points behind his teammate Bulega in the standings
  • Petrucci led a WorldSBK for the first time and ultimately he converted a front row into his third podium of the season
  • Fourth position marked the best result of the season for Garrett Gerloff (Bonovo Action BMW) after the American rider came out on top of a four rider battle with Lowes, van der Mark and Bulega

Key Points:

Pole position: Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team)

P1 | Toprak Razgatlioglu | ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team

“I’m really happy about this race. At the beginning we were fighting with Petrucci. In the last ten laps I just tried to push as hard as I could for a good lap time. We won again today and I’m really happy. It hasn’t been an easy weekend because everyone was pushing harder and the hot conditions also made it tough. We did a very good job. I need one more win for the new consecutive wins record and we’ll see tomorrow if I can do it!”

P2 | Alvaro Bautista | Aruba.it Racing – Ducati

“We’ve struggled a lot this year in the Superpole but today we weren’t bad. I made my worst start of the season and lost a lot of positions on lap one so I had to push throughout the entire race. I couldn’t relax at any point during the race so I’m happy because, in the end, I managed to keep a good pace and catch up with the leading riders. I still need to do more to be at 100% but this is my 100th podium and I’m really happy about that. It’s always nice to celebrate these milestones with a win but this year has been difficult. The good thing is that we’re making progress, and I’m starting to feel much better on the bike. So I hope that tomorrow I can fight again for the podium and maybe even for the victory!”

P3 | Danilo Petrucci | Barni Spark Racing Team

“This was a really nice race! I’ve led a WorldSBK race for the first time and it’s something I’ve been trying to do for a while! During the race I was pushing at 90% because I knew it would be impossible to follow Toprak. I had a bit left at the end but Alvaro was a bit faster in the corners. It’s a podium though and that’s always nice. I want to say thanks to my crew because I really had a good bike today.”

American Flat Track: New-Look Sturgis TT Is Sunday

Progressive AFT Hits the Streets for Arrowhead Brass Sturgis TT

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (August 9, 2024) – History is now mere days away. On Sunday, August 11, the stars of Progressive American Flat Track, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing, will take the Grand National Championship into the Streets of Downtown Sturgis, South Dakota, for the inaugural Arrowhead Brass Sturgis TT presented by Rick Ware Racing & The CAT Rental Store.

The innovative event, developed and promoted in collaboration with AFT EventsØuterkind and the City of Sturgis, reconnects the city to its legacy of motorcycle racing that dates back to the very origins of the fabled Sturgis Motorcycle Racing, now in the midst of its 84th edition.

Equal parts heritage and modern-day spectacle, the Arrowhead Brass Sturgis TT will not just honor the past by way of the present but also look to the future with the highly anticipated introduction of the all-new AFT AdventureTrackers™ class.

However, the season’s headlining story continues to be the quest of reigning Mission AFT SuperTwins champion Jared Mees (No. 1 Rogers Racing/SDI Racing/Indian Motorcycle FTR750) to become the first rider in the seven-decade history of the series to claim a tenth Grand National Championship. That mission came even more clearly into focus this past Tuesday night when Mees moved to the top of the points race for the first time this season.

A victory this weekend would push him that much closer to the unprecedented achievement, but it will not come easily. When the series last did battle on a hybrid TT circuit that combined dirt and asphalt at the 2021 Atlanta Super TT, JD Beach (No. 95 Estenson Racing Yamaha MT-07 DT) was fastest in every practice and qualifying session, won both his heat and the Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge, and ran away with the Main Event victory by several seconds. Despite spending the bulk of his season racing a Tytlers Cycle BMW Superbike, Beach is already back at the top of his dirt track game as evidenced by his runner-up finish at the Peoria TT and a first-career Half-Mile victory at Black Hills Speedway.

The fact that Beach was beaten at all in Peoria underlines the fact that Briar Bauman (No. 3 Rick Ware Racing/KTM/Parts Plus KTM 790 Duke) is a rider to watch this weekend as well. Besides being a rider with the all-around talents to excel at the circuit, he’s also one who will be looking to make amends coming off a difficult Main Event in Rapid City.

But perhaps no rider is more in need of a big day than Brandon Robinson (No. 44 Mission Roof Systems Indian FTR750), who currently ranks second to Mees in the championship race. While TTs have never been Robinson’s forte, the Mission Roof Systems rider has improved in the discipline, and the novel nature of the circuit provides ample opportunity to shock the world.

Pit up against a 17-point disadvantage with four rounds remaining, Robinson would be well served to put riders between himself and Mees. Fortunately for his championship hopes, Beach isn’t the only wild card with the potential to run up front; Multi-time TT winner Sammy Halbert (No. 69 OnlyFans/Martin Trucking/ Castro Yamaha MT-07) is back in the mix following a run of hugely impressive rides earlier this season.

Several series regulars could also play the role of spoiler, including the likes of Jarod Vanderkooi (No. 20 JMC Motorsports/Fairway Ford Ohio Indian FTR750), Davis Fisher (No. 67 Rackley Racing/Bob Lanphere’s BMC Racing Indian FTR750), Brandon Price (No. 92 Memphis Shades/Sody Ent/OTBR Yamaha MT-07), and Dalton Gauthier (No. 79 Moto Anatomy X Powered by Royal Enfield 650), not to mention red-hot rookies Trevor Brunner (No. 21 Mission Foods/Zanotti Racing KTM 790 Duke) and Declan Bender (No. 70 GOMR/BriggsAuto.com/Martin Trucking Indian FTR750), who both claimed maiden premier-class top fives earlier this week.

Parts Unlimited AFT Singles presented by KICKER

Double defending Parts Unlimited AFT Singles presented by KICKER king Kody Kopp (No. 1 Rick Ware Racing/Parts Plus KTM 450 SX-F) has a chance to secure one of the few remaining accomplishments that has thus far eluded him during his record-breaking stint in the class. Now holding either sole possession or a share of the all-time lead in championships as well as career, single-season, Half-Mile, and Short Track victories, Kopp has yet to stand atop the podium at a TT.

Doing so this Sunday would also tilt the balance of power back in his direction after seeing the last four races go to his primary rivals, Chase Saathoff (No. 88 JPG Motorsports Honda CRF450R) and Tom Drane (No. 59 Estenson Racing Yamaha YZ450F), who figure to once again be Kopp’s biggest threats this weekend.

Tarren Santero (No. 75 Vinson Construction/P&M Motorcycles Honda CRF450R), Evan Renshaw (No. 265 American Honda/Mission Foods CRF450R), and Jared Lowe (No. 63 BigR/Little Debbie Racing Honda CRF450R) were next best in Peoria. However, those results should be considered, at best, a rough guide of what may transpire this weekend, with the Arrowhead Brass Sturgis TT promising to be a different beast entirely.

Meanwhile, Trent Lowe (No. 48 American Honda/Mission Foods CRF450R) and James Ott (No. 19 1st Impressions Race Team Husqvarna FC450) will resume their fight for fourth in the championship hunt and hope to do so by adding to their seasons’ tally of podium finishes.

AFT AdventureTrackers

One of the fastest growing and fiercely competitive segments of the global motorcycle market will take their respective claims of supremacy to the Streets of Downtown Sturgis with the long-awaited debut of the AFT AdventureTrackers. And as a showcase for Dual Adventure bikes specifically designed to dominate any and all terrain they are confronted with, the hybrid TT course couldn’t possibly be more perfectly suited for the task at hand.

The AFT AdventureTrackers class has been designed around production-based race bikes that are as close to street stock as is feasible. And in turn, an incredibly decorated and diverse collection of riders has been recruited to demonstrate exactly what these versatile machines are capable of.

Saddlemen Race Development will field a Daytona 200 legend and big-bike specialist in teammates Danny Eslick (No. 64 Saddlemen Race Development Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250) and Frankie Garcia (No. 14 Saddlemen Race Development Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250).

Meanwhile, Memphis Shades/Vinson Honda comes armed with a championship-winning dirt tracker in Dan Bromley (No. 62 Sody Enterprises/Memphis Shades/Vinson Honda Africa Twin).

And Triumph has its bases well covered with big-name riders hailing from across dirt track, world enduro, stunt riding, and Superhooligan in Sammy Halbert (No. 69 Triumph Racing Triumph Tiger 1200), Robby McLendon (No. 169 Triumph Racing Triumph Tiger 1200), Ivan Cervantes (No. 25 Triumph Racing Triumph Tiger 1200), Nick ‘Apex’ Brocha (No. 777 Triumph Racing Triumph Tiger 1200), and Kole King (No. 80 Triumph Racing/Triumph Indianapolis Triumph Tiger 1200).

Which style will prove superior for these machines and this course? That’s a fascinating question that won’t be answered until the AdventureTrackers’ rubber hits the road (and dirt) for the first time in history this Sunday.

Due to its setting in Downtown Sturgis on the final day of the 84th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, race fans will obviously have a huge number of off-track attractions at their disposal. Included among them are the Progressive Insurance Sturgis TT Demo & Display Lot, numerous vendors, expansive food and beverage options, and live music from the Rally Point stage performed throughout the day by country music star and The Voice alum Joey Green.

Attendance for Sunday, August 11’s inaugural Arrowhead Brass Sturgis TT presented by Rick Ware Racing & The CAT Rental Store is free of charge. Fans also have a unique opportunity to witness history in comfort from ideal vantage points offered by legendary Sturgis Main Street bars Loud American and One-Eyed Jacks Saloon. These Arrowhead Brass Sturgis TT VIP Experiences are available for $175 at https://www.tixr.com/groups/americanflattrack/events/sturgis-tt-112510.

Practice will start at 2:00 p.m. ET (11:0 a.m. PT) with Opening Ceremonies scheduled to begin at 4:45 p.m. ET (1:45 p.m. PT). You can catch the livestream of all the weekend’s racing activities on FloRacing. Motorsports fans can subscribe to FloRacing to enjoy over 1,000 live motorsports events in 2024. FloSports is available by visiting https://flosports.link/aft or by downloading the FloSports app on iOS, Android, Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire and Chromecast.

The Arrowhead Brass Sturgis TT pre-race show will air on FS2 on Saturday, August 17, at 1:00 p.m. ET (10:00 a.m. PT), immediately followed by the race broadcast on FOX at 2:00 p.m. ET (11:00 a.m. PT). Canadian Superbike: Guerin On Pole At Rainy CTMP

Guerin earns maiden pole in wet Superbike qualifying at CTMP

Bowmanville, ON – The momentum atop the Bridgestone Canadian Superbike Championship turned dramatically on Friday, as Sam Guerin blitzed his way to a spectacular BS Battery Pole Position Award in qualifying at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

Guerin sat atop the provisional timesheets for majority of the final top-ten Q2 shootout, but by fine margins over Alex Dumas on a wet but drying track. Any doubt was erased in the last seconds of the session, however, as Guerin smashed his previous best with a time of 1:31.368 to earn his first career GP Bikes Pro Superbike pole position.

That would move the EFC Group BMW rider a whopping 1.655 seconds clear of Dumas, the largest recorded margin-of-pole in the modern CSBK era.

It would be especially crucial given where his title rival wound up, as points leader Ben Young crashed on his out lap and was unable to post a time in Q2, relegating him to ninth on the grid for the weekend’s doubleheader.

The incident ended Young’s run of four consecutive pole positions, though it’s entirely possible he may not have been able to beat Guerin’s blistering time anyways, as the Quebec City native looked to be on another level in the damp conditions.

“It’s amazing, it feels incredible. I love riding on a wet track, and it’s easier when I have all this amazing support,” Guerin said. “The championship is far from over, and I’m going to fight until the very last day.”

The result is a pivotal one for the title battle for multiple reasons, as Guerin will take four points out of Young to cut his deficit to 36 points and will also start eight positions ahead of him on Saturday and Sunday.

A win is anything but certain, however, as Dumas continued to look strong aboard the Economy Lube Ducati on Friday. The 2021 champion was just 0.3 seconds behind Guerin until his late flyer, and was unofficially clocked as the rider to beat in dry running on Thursday – similar conditions to the clear weather on Saturday’s forecast.

Completing the front row will be Trevor Daley, who enjoyed an excellent day of qualifying after snatching a maiden pole of his own in Economy Lube Pro Sport Bike earlier in the day.

Daley put in a handful of late improvements aboard his OneSpeed Suzuki to leapfrog Jordan Szoke but couldn’t quite displace Dumas, though he will still have an excellent shot at a second career Superbike win from the end of row one this weekend.

Szoke would take fourth as he leads off row two for CKM Kawasaki, a strong effort but one that could have been far better after he reportedly ran out of fuel during his best flying lap late in the session.

Centering the second row will be David MacKay, who nearly missed out on Q2 before saving himself with a late improvement and ultimately carrying that momentum into the final session aboard his Snow City Cycle Honda.

The same was true for Tomas Casas in sixth, who needed a late flyer to lift himself out of Q1 but then turned in a strong Q2 performance to complete the second row, with the top six positions each representing a different manufacturer.

Torin Collins’ return to the series will see him start seventh, a solid result as he comes to grips with his new Economy Lube/CKM Kawasaki at an unfamiliar venue.

Former Amateur champion Julien Lafortune turned heads in his return to the paddock, earning a career best eighth on the grid for SpeedFactory67 Kawasaki in his first national action since CTMP one year ago.

Young will complete the third row for Van Dolder’s Home Team BMW by virtue of topping Q1, as Brian Worsdall also crashed on his out lap of Q2 which means both riders will revert to their Q1 times to determine who starts ninth and tenth.

Worsdall made the most of his final lap in Q1, though, jumping four spots as he took the chequered flag aboard his Mot’s Machining Honda to dislodge Connor Campbell.

Campbell will thus start eleventh for B&T MacFarlane/Kubota Kawasaki, a disappointing result for the Brooklin Cycle Racing Pro Rookie of the Year leader after he gambled that his time would hold up in the final minutes.

Notably absent from the front five rows will be wildcard Charles Aubrie, who qualified 16th out of 30 entries for Turcotte Performance Kawasaki. The European Moto2 rider didn’t look entirely comfortable in his first day at CTMP, but will hope dryer conditions on Saturday can help him climb the order in his CSBK debut.

Guerin’s qualifying success will also see him leapfrog Szoke for second in the season-long BS Battery Pole Position Award standings, though Young already clinched the award last time out at AMP.

The feature class is expected to kick off their doubleheader on Saturday at roughly 3 pm ET, just an hour east of Toronto at CTMP.

Full results can be found on the series’ official website.

Editorial Note: Americans Julian Correa, Eli Banish, and Joshua Raymond, Jr. were seventh, 13th, and 15th, respectively, in British Talent Cup combined practice times Friday at Thruxton.

More, from a press release issued by MotorSport Vision Racing (MSVR):

Kent claims the top spot in intense opening day at Thruxton

Danny Kent soared to the top of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship combined Free Practice times at Thruxton as the McAMS Racing Yamaha rider set the pace in an intense opening day as the top 16 riders were covered by just 0.956s.

The Yamaha contenders had been battling at the top in the afternoon but Oxford Products Racing Ducati’s Christian Iddon was on the move and he shot to the top of the times as the session reached the final ten minutes.

Iddon had displaced Kyle Ryde from the top with Peter Hickman holding third ahead of the two Completely Motorbikes Kawasaki riders, Max Cook and Jason O’Halloran as the session reached the closing stages.

Kent was upping the pace and the McAMS Racing Yamaha rider hit the top of the times with four minutes of the session remaining as championship leader Tommy Bridewell leapt into second with under three minutes to go in Free Practice two and just 0.139s adrift.

Ryde moved into third ahead of Iddon and Hickman in the closing moments of the session, whilst MasterMac Honda’s Lee Jackson completed the top six riders.

Andrew Irwin moved into seventh ahead of Cook, Billy McConnell and O’Halloran in a hectic final shuffle of the times ahead of the chequered flag with Leon Haslam and Charlie Nesbitt completing the twelve riders who will progress into tomorrow’s Speedy Hire Q2 session.

Vickers had led the opening session, but the OMG GRILLA Yamaha Racing rider will have to go through Speedy Hire Q1 tomorrow, as he was 15th fastest on combined times after the Free Practice 2. Meanwhile Hager PBM Ducati’s Glenn Irwin will also feature in Q1 after ending the opening day in 17th.

Fraser Rogers and Rory Skinner both returned from injury to line up in Free Practice with the pair ending the opening day in 13th and 23rd place respectively.

WorldSBK: Petrucci Tops FP2 At Algarve International Circuit

Danilo Petrucci topped Superbike World Championship Free Practice Two (FP2) Friday evening at Algarve International Circuit, in Portimao, Portugal. Riding his Barni Spark Racing Team Ducati Panigale V4 R on Pirelli slicks, the former MotoGP race winner covered the 2.85-mile course in 1:40.681 to lead the other 22 riders.

Two-time and defending World Champion Alvaro Bautista was the best of the rest with a 1:40.704 on his Aruba.it Racing Ducati.

Current World Championship point leader Toprak Razgatlioglu was third in FP2 with a time of 1:40.783.

After being second-quickest in FP1, American Garrett Gerloff was eighth in FP2 with a 1:41.070 on his Bonovo Action BMW.

The top 18 riders in FP2 were less than one second apart.

Petrucci leads the way with 18 riders within one second

WorldSBK Free Practice

Danilo Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team) led the way on the opening day of action at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve. The Ducati rider completed 34 laps on the opening day of action and set a fastest time of 1’40.681 in an action packed FP2 session

Blue skies and high track temperatures dominated the conditions and while it was picture postcard weather the wind played a role in the closing stages. The evening schedule saw the wind strength increase as the day wore on and Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) and Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Team Motocorsa Racing) both crashed in the closing stages

Championship leader Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) has won ten races in a row but this weekend looks to be more challenging. The Turkish rider was third fastest but more worrying was that he suffered reliability issues in both sessions today. He completed 31 laps today

Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) also suffered a technical issue today. The Ducati rider, second in the championship standings, lost all of FP1 due to a problem that sidelined him after one flying lap but recovered in FP2 to set the fourth fastest time

Dominique Aegerter (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) covered the most mileage today. The Swiss rider’s 41 laps were consistent for his race simulation and he ended the session fifth fastest

Remy Gardner (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) suffered a technical issue in FP2 to end the day 18th fastest. Despite his lack of running the Australian rider was within one second of the fastest time as WorldSBK gears up for a very competitive weekend

More on worldsbk.com

P1 | Danilo Petrucci | Barni Spark Racing Team

“I’m quite surprised because I struggled here last year even though it’s always been one that I like. Today, I felt good on the bike and I was able to push and find a good rhythm. We made a few setting changes in the afternoon and I tried the new rear tyre. This tyre was a step forward and I felt good immediately. The tyre is grippy so I liked it! We also did something with the front end of the bike, and I have a good feeling there as well. I didn’t expect to finish the day with the fastest time so I’m surprised but also happy. I’m still recovering from my injuries and my right arm is a bit tired. I hope this result gives me some happiness and strength for tomorrow.”

P2 | Alvaro Bautista | Aruba.it Racing – Ducati

“Physically, I feel okay. I have a bit of road rash but it’s no problem. The wind was the issue for the crash because it started to get stronger after the middle of FP2. In that corner the wind pushed me a lot. I had arrived at the corner a little faster than the lap before and I tried to brake at the same point but I lost the front. In general, I’m quite happy because, already this morning, I felt very similar to how I did in Most with the bike. That means it’s similar to last year as well. The memories I have from the winter test here weren’t good but today has been much better. The feeling with the bike is definitely better, so I’m happy about that. We also tried some different gearing to deal with the wind. This is the first weekend where we’ve left one track and come to a new one where the feeling has stayed the same. It’s been a positive day. We had a good weekend at Most, even if the result wasn’t great, and we’ve started well here. We need to keep building our confidence with the bike and aim for our best performance tomorrow.”

P3 | Toprak Razgatlioglu | ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team

“I had a technical problem in FP2 and I had to return to the box. Unfortunately, I couldn’t ride the bike for the last ten minutes. Overall, my feeling wasn’t bad with the bike. Before the technical issue, I was using a used tyre, and I’m very happy with how the bike performed on it. This is positive for me because our pace was good and I did a very good job with the used tyre. After 18 laps, I was still able to do a 40.9 lap which is really good in these hot conditions. I started feeling some problems after 3-4 laps when I used the new tyre and I realised there was a technical issue. I had to return to the box, but very slowly. We’ll see how things go tomorrow but the first day is done and I’m very happy because not every session or race weekend goes perfectly. Now we’re starting a little differently this weekend but I’m feeling positive. I’m just waiting for tomorrow.”

World Supersport: Huertas Takes Pole Position In Portugal

Adrian Huertas captured pole position during World Supersport Superpole qualifying Friday evening at Algarve International Circuit, in Portimao, Portugal. The Spaniard ripped around the 2.85-mile track in 1:43.352 on his Aruba.it Racing Ducati Panigale V2, topping the field of 31 riders.

Yari Montella was second-best with a 1:43.592 on his Barni Spark Racing Team Ducati.

Stefano Manzi earned the third and final spot on the front row with a lap time of 1:44.091 on his Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing YZF-R6.

Former MotoAmerica Supersport front-runner Valentin Debise qualified eighth with a 1:44.422 on his Evan Bros. Yamaha.

American Garrett Gerloff finished a season-high fourth on his Bonovo Action BMW.

Key Points:
