Race Report

September 7, 2024 (Sat) Official Qualifying / Race 1 – Weather: Clear

September 8, 2024 (Sun) Race 2 – Weather: Clear

Venue: Autopolis International Racing Course, Oita Prefecture (1 lap = 4.674 km)

First and foremost, we would like to express our deepest condolences for the passing of Ryota Haga, a rider in the ST600 class race, due to an accident during this event.

Round 6 of the 2024 All Japan Road Race Championship was held at the Autopolis International Racing Course in Oita Prefecture, marking the first time in about three months since Round 3 at SUGO that all classes competed.

This time, the JSB1000 and ST1000 classes had races on both Saturday and Sunday (two qualifying sessions and four races over two days), which meant a lot of work for both mechanics and riders.

The pre-race test at Autopolis was canceled due to the approach of a typhoon, and rider Hoshino had to perform tasks such as testing and bike setup during Friday’s practice. Despite the circumstances, he approached qualifying with a good feeling.

September 7 (Sat) Official Qualifying & Race 1 – Weather: Sunny – Course: Dry

● #21 Tomoya Hoshino

○ Race 1 Qualifying: 16th (1’50.978) → Race: 15th

The qualifying session, which took place in the relatively cool conditions of the morning, was shortened by 10 minutes to 30 minutes. Hoshino returned to the pits after three laps to change tires, and then went back out on track, achieving his best time of 1’50.978 on his second lap. While this time was just slightly slower than his personal best (1’50.957), it was nearly a second faster than his time from the previous day, allowing him to start from 16th place on the sixth row.

JSB1000 Class Race 1

● Weather: Sunny

● Course: Dry

● Race Format: 7 Laps (red-flag interruption) + 8 Laps

The start of the race on Saturday afternoon was delayed by about 15 minutes due to an interruption during the JP250 race. Hoshino made a good start, finishing the first lap in 15th place. He moved up to 13th by lap 5 due to the retirement of #6 Tsuda (overrun) and the pit stop penalty for #32 Nozane. The race was red-flagged on lap 7 due to a crash by #30 Nagashima.

The restarted race was set for 8 laps, beginning from the positions at the end of lap 7. Hoshino changed his tires, made a strong start, and crossed the control line in 11th place at the end of the first lap. As the battle for positions continued, he was overtaken by #14 Kodama, #31 Sano, and #17 Sugiyama, who were all slightly faster. In the final stages, he engaged in a close fight with #18 Yanagawa, ultimately finishing in 15th place and securing a valuable point.

September 8 (Sun) Race 2

● Weather: Sunny

● Course: Dry

● Race Format: 18 Laps

● #21 Tomoya Hoshino

○ Race 2 Qualifying: 17th (1’51.002) → Race: 14th

Hoshino started Race 2 from 17th position based on his second-best time in Saturday’s qualifying. The conditions were hotter than the previous day, with higher air and track temperatures. As usual, Hoshino gained positions at the start, passing the control line in 14th place on the first lap. He maintained a good race pace through the early and middle stages, battling with #7 Kiyonari and #17 Sugiyama. In the final stages, he fought for 13th place with Sugiyama but was overtaken on the last lap, finishing 14th. Hoshino’s persistent and calm riding earned him points in both races.

Comments from Tomoya Hoshino

“This has been a tough race for me at Autopolis in recent years, but I was looking forward to this event as the tires prepared by Dunlop seemed to match the Autopolis track well. I was able to improve my times steadily right from the start. In qualifying, I set a time close to my personal best, finishing 16th, and unlike in previous years, I was able to maintain my pace and secure points in both races! I look forward to the next round. Lastly, I offer my heartfelt condolences to Ryoto Haga, who lost his life in an accident during the ST600 class race.”

ST1000 Class Report

Rider Yoshida had opportunities to race continuously in the Suzuka 8 Hours and Motegi 2&4, but it had been a year since he last rode at Autopolis. During Friday’s practice, he couldn’t beat his best time from last year, but he seemed to be in good shape for the qualifying.

On the other hand, rider Zech had not ridden at Autopolis for four years, and he had not had a chance to ride since the Suzuka 8 Hours test in June, making the situation quite challenging. However, he gradually improved his times and entered the qualifying session.

September 7 (Sat) Official Qualifying & Race 1

● Weather: Sunny

● Course: Dry

● #28 Ainosuke Yoshida

○ Race 1 Qualifying: 16th (1’54.369) → Did Not Start

● #33 Zeck

○ Race 1 Qualifying: 23rd (1’56.791) → Race: 20th

Due to the shorter 20-minute qualifying session, both riders aggressively completed laps. Yoshida surpassed his best time from last year early on, recording a personal best of 1’54.349 on his third lap. However, aiming for an even better time, he went off course and crashed at the first corner on his eighth lap. Due to a concussion from hitting his head, he was forced to withdraw from the race by doctor’s orders.

Zech used the full 20 minutes of the qualifying session to gradually improve his time, setting a personal best of 1’56.791 towards the end of the session. He started Race 1 from 23rd position, on the 8th row.

ST1000 Class Race 1

● Weather: Sunny

● Course: Dry

● Race Format: 12 Laps

Race 1 of the ST1000 class was delayed by about 30 minutes. Zech aimed for a better position, finishing the first lap in 22nd place and moving up to 21st after the retirement of #48 Nishimura on lap 3. However, he was unable to run as expected due to mechanical trouble. Nonetheless, Zech persevered and finished 20th.

September 8 (Sun) ST1000 Class Race 2

● Weather: Sunny

● Course: Dry

● Race Format: 14 Laps

● #28 Ainosuke Yoshida: Did Not Start

● #33 Zeck

○ Race 2 Qualifying: 21st (1’56.797) → Race: 16th

Starting grid for Race 2 was determined by second-best times. Zech was set to start from 23rd place with a time of 1’56.797, but with Yoshida and #48 Nishimura unable to start, he began from 21st. The mechanical issue from the previous day was resolved by the mechanics, and he had a good feeling during the morning’s free practice.

Zech made a good start, passing the control line in 20th place at the end of the first lap and overtaking #35 Sato on lap 3 to move into 19th. When #7 Toshima crashed on lap 6, he rose to 18th. He continued with a good race pace, overtaking #24 Kabeya on lap 7 to reach 17th and setting a new personal best time. After #32 Yae crashed on lap 12, he moved up to 16th but ended up in a close battle with #49 Arase, narrowly missing out on a points finish.

Although he didn’t score points as he did in Round 3 at SUGO, he showed clear signs of improvement and gave a performance that holds promise for future races. We also look forward to Yoshida’s comeback, who was forced to sit out due to a doctor’s orders.

Comments from Ainosuke Yoshida

“Thank you always for your support.

The test at Autopolis was canceled due to the typhoon, so we ended up starting our running from race week. I was told by Takamura-san that ‘pre-race imagery is necessary,’ so I focused on imagery training since the test was canceled. It paid off, and I think I was in good condition from the start of the week. However, I crashed and suffered a concussion when I overshot Turn 1 in qualifying, which led to canceling both Race 1 and Race 2. It’s very frustrating, but I will do my best for Okayama.

Lastly, I would like to express my heartfelt condolences to Ryota Haga, who passed away in the ST600 accident.”

Comments from Zeck

“Autopolis was the circuit that inspired me to start racing. Eleven years ago, while touring Kyushu, I happened to pass by Autopolis and saw a track day event happening there, which made me decide to race on a circuit. Four years ago, during my debut season in the All-Japan championship, I unfortunately had to retire due to a mechanical issue at Autopolis.
This race was a chance for me to seek revenge and to achieve a good result at this circuit that holds special meaning for me. Despite the typhoon causing the test to be canceled and limiting our practice time, I gradually found my pace, and the feel of the bike improved with each session, allowing me to steadily improve my lap times.

In Race 1, I had trouble with the electronics, and the electronic control of the shifter wasn’t working, but I managed to maintain my pace and finish the race. I believe this experience gave me confidence for Race 2. In Race 2, I improved my lap times by more than a second and overtook two riders to finish in 16th place. Although I was just a step away from earning points, it was a significant step for me. I am very grateful to the team members who fixed the bike.

However, I couldn’t celebrate wholeheartedly. We received the news of Ryota Haga’s passing, and it was a very difficult round for all participants. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Haga family.”

Comments from Chief Mechanic Yoshihisa Takamura

“First of all, I would like to express my deepest condolences for Ryota Haga, who passed away during the ST600 race. This is a sport that involves inherent risks, but we are committed to doing everything we can to prevent such incidents in the future.

In the qualifying round, Yoshida crashed, hit his head hard, and suffered a concussion. Yoshida was in a very difficult condition immediately after the crash, so we decided to cancel further participation and withdraw. Despite the pre-race test being canceled due to a typhoon, reducing our time on the track, I think we had a good flow. The setup of the vehicle also moved in a positive direction, and Hoshino was able to earn points in both races. Zech was also just one step away from achieving his goal of earning points.

We aim to maintain this momentum at the Okayama race and prepare for a satisfactory performance. Thank you to everyone who supported us.”

Comments from Team Director Yu Yamashita

“Thank you for your continued support of our team’s activities. This time, it was a race where all three riders were together for the first time in a while.

Regarding Hoshino, he maintained his good form, and the setup of the machine and tires came together well. Along with his tenacious racing, he was able to earn points in both races. Yoshida’s performance showed that the preparation until the previous race was effective. Unfortunately, due to the concussion sustained during the crash in the qualifying, he was unable to participate in the races, but it was a much better event overall.

As for Zech, despite it being his first race in a long time, he improved with each run, gradually shortening his lap times, and ultimately managed to climb up to 16th place in Race 2, just short of earning points.

The next race will be the Okayama round, which will be our team’s first time there in three years. We will once again focus on safety and work together as a team to achieve a better race, so we kindly ask for your continued support.

Finally, I would like to express my heartfelt condolences for Ryota Haga, who passed away in an accident during this race.”

KingQuad 500AXi – The KingQuad 500AXi is not just an ATV, it’s a KingQuad ATV. Suzuki, the inventor of the 4-wheel ATV, has created the world’s best sports-utility quad with bold styling plus more capability and reliability. The legacy of the iconic KingQuad remains fresh and exciting and is ready for riders to join its history. The 2025 Suzuki KingQuad 500AXi helps tackle challenging terrain with the capabilities that only a KingQuad possesses.

Key KingQuad 500AXi Features

The powerful, 493cc, SOHC, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, four-stroke engine is tuned to produce a wide powerband with strong top-end power. The engine is canted forward for a low center of gravity, resulting in reduced engine height and lower seat height.

The Quadmatic™ CVT-type automatic transmission provides versatility and convenience with a fender-mounted gate-type shifter for high/low range selection. Its advanced engine-braking system helps reduce speed when riding downhill.

Handlebar-mounted push-button controls permit easy selection between 2WD, 4WD, and differential-lock 4WD. An override button on the left handlebar can be used to override the normal speed limiter when getting out of mud.

To increase rider comfort and towing capacity the KingQuad’s frame has thick-wall steel tubes and reinforced brackets in key areas.

Independent double A-arm front suspension (6.7 inches of wheel travel) and the fully independent, A-arm/I-beam rear suspension (7.7 inches of wheel travel) use four large diameter, gas-charged shock absorbers with five-way spring preload adjustment.

Available in Flame Red or Terra Green, the bold, angular bodywork features high-clearance fenders that offer great protection for the rider. Refined panels simplify maintenance needs, such as oil level checks and fuel and air filter service.

This KingQuad features dual hydraulic front disc brakes and a sealed rear brake. The rear brake’s clutch-type design is extremely durable with reduced unsprung weight and minimal maintenance requirements.

High traction 25-inch Carlisle® tires are mounted on strong steel wheels with a durable, powder-coated matte black finish.

The 35-watt handlebar-mounted headlight and dual, fender mounted 35-watt headlights (with high- and low-beam settings) are part of the KingQuad’s distinctive bodywork.  The multi-function instrument panel has excellent visibility and provides service reminders based on running time or mileage.

The rugged front and rear steel-tube cargo racks can accept Suzuki’s accessory high-impact plastic carrier covers that shield cargo from wear. The standard receiver-type trailer hitch receiver makes it easy to move equipment with the KingQuad’s generous towing capacity (up to 1322 pounds).

Each new KingQuad is supplied with a two-year Limited Warranty, that is much longer than other ATV warranties. Longer coverage and other benefits are available through Suzuki Extended Protection (SEP).

MotoAmerica: Herrin Leads Superbike Points Heading To COTA

Three Superbike Races To Keep It Interesting As It’s Texas Time For MotoAmerica

Josh Herrin Has His Sights Set On Superbike Title, But It’s Not Over Yet As COTA Awaits, September 13-15

IRVINE, CA (September 11, 2024) – Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati’s Josh Herrin arrives this weekend at the Circuit of The Americas with a 52-point lead in the 2024 MotoAmerica Steel Commander Superbike Championship. If he leaves Texas on Sunday afternoon with a similar point lead, he will be crowned as the Superbike Champion for the second time in his career and for the first time in 11 years.

But with that being said, there is plenty of racing still to be raced at COTA with 75 points up for grabs from the time the lights go green for race one on Saturday until the checkered flag comes out at the end of race three on Sunday afternoon.

And there are still all kinds of hungry racers behind him that will be determined to at least make Herrin wait until the unpredictable, anything-can-happen New Jersey Motorsports Park round and the season finale.

Let’s back up a little bit.

Herrin has gotten where he is by pouring it on when it matters most. The championship isn’t won in the early rounds at Road Atlanta, Barber or even Road America. Those are three ingredients, but the bread is baked in the last half of the season and that’s where Herrin has put a dagger in the hearts of his competition.

In the past nine races, Herrin has won five times and stood on the podium three other times. His only real miscue came in race one at Ridge Motorsports Park when he chose to use slicks on a wet racetrack. He wasn’t alone in making that poor decision and he paid for it, scoring just five points in the race.

Since then, Herrin has been virtually unstoppable with four wins in the past five races, including three in a row heading into COTA – a racetrack he’s won on before and a racetrack that suits the Ducati.

Two men are tied for second in the championship heading to Texas and one of them won’t be racing. Wrench Motorcycles’ Bobby Fong and Attack Performance/Progressive/ Yamaha Racing’s Jake Gagne are tied – 52 points behind Herrin – but Gagne won’t be racing at COTA as he’s opted to sit out the rest of the season in an attempt to get his arm-pump problem sorted out for the 2025 season. Gagne has finished every single race in 2024 and he’s the only rider in the top 10 who can make that claim. But his health issues haven’t gotten any better so sitting out for a re-charged 2025 is probably the best option.

Fong had a strong middle part of the season, including two wins at Brainerd International Raceway, but his results have slipped of late, and he hasn’t stood on the podium since race two at Ridge Motorsports Park. Fong’s a fighter, however, and he won’t quit until the championship is over. He’s also a rider who has done well ln the past at COTA.

The man Herrin probably fears the most is the one who has climbed his way up to fourth after missing events and failing to score in five straight races while recuperating from a broken heel. That rider is Tytlers Cycle Racing’s Cameron Beaubier.

The five-time MotoAmerica Superbike Champion is 60 points behind Herrin and that may be too much to ask. Beaubier has four podium finishes (including a victory) in the past four races, proving that his foot injury is behind him. Expect him to fight until the end and he will be able to let the fast BMW M 1000 RR feel its oats at COTA.

Cameron Petersen sits fifth in the title chase, nine points behind Beaubier and 69 in arrears of Herrin. Petersen has had an up-and-down season thus far and a few crashes at the most recent Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course round left him a bit beaten. A few weeks off likely did wonders for the Attack Racing/Progressive/Yamaha Racing-backed South African. Also, Petersen does have three victories in the 2024 season so he knows how to win.

Petersen will be joined at COTA by Xavi Forés with the Spaniard set to replace Gagne for both the Texas round and the season-ending New Jersey round. Forés is “Mr. Have Leathers Will Travel” in 2024 as he previously filled in on the Vision Wheel M4 ECSTAR Suzuki team for Richie Escalante. This is Forés’ second go with the Attack team as he raced for them in the Daytona 200 in March.

It would be hard to argue against Sean Dylan Kelly being the “fastest rider yet to win a MotoAmerica Superbike race” as the rookie has taken the series by storm with four podium finishes in his debut season. Kelly’s confidence continues to grow, helped by his close second-place finish to Herrin in the most recent race at Mid-Ohio. It will be interesting to see if the EasyHealthPlans.com/TopPro Racing rider can come through with a victory in any of the remaining five races.

Loris Baz sits seventh in the championship after throwing away what appeared to be a certain 20 points in race one at Mid-Ohio when he crashed while circulating behind his teammate Herrin. Baz is 12 points behind Kelly and 31 points ahead of Beaubier’s teammate JD Beach.

Vision Wheel M4 ECSTAR Suzuki’s Brandon Paasch and Real Steel Motorsports’ Hayden Gillim complete the top 10 heading into COTA’s three races.

Paasch’s teammate Escalante was back in action at Mid-Ohio. Unfortunately, he crashed out of race one and finished seventh in race two as he fights to get back to his normal self.

Pre-Circuit of The America Notes…

What a difference a year makes. Jake Gagne and Josh Herrin split wins this time last year at Circuit of The Americas with Gagne topping Richie Escalante and JD Beach to win race one while Herrin beat PJ Jacobsen and Bobby Fong to win race two. Gagne arrived in Texas after wrapping up his third successive championship in the previous round at Pittsburgh International Race Complex. Gagne has opted to sit out the remaining five races of the season as he tries to fix his season-long arm-pump problem.

Gagne earned pole position for the two races at COTA with a best lap of 2:08.169 to best Herrin and Escalante, with the Vision Wheel M4 ECSTAR Suzuki rider earning his first front-row starting position. Gagne’s best lap set a new Superbike record at the 3.4-mile, 20-turn Circuit of The Americas, breaking Roger Hayden’s 2:08.184 from 2017.

Of the 14 MotoAmerica Superbike races held at COTA, non-Americans have won nine of them. The all-time win leader at COTA is Toni Elias, the now-retired Spaniard winning six races in Texas. The riders with the second most victories at COTA are Danilo Petrucci, with the Italian winning both races in 2022, and Josh Herrin, who won a race in 2019 and won race two last year. The third foreigner to win at COTA is Mathew Scholtz with the South African winning race one in 2018 for Westby Racing.

Suzuki is the manufacturer with the most MotoAmerica Superbike wins at COTA with seven. Yamaha has four victories in Austin with Josh Herrin giving Ducati its third win in Texas last year.

Cameron Beaubier arrives in Texas as the winningest active Superbike racer with the five-time MotoAmerica Superbike Champion second on the all-time win list behind Australian Mat Mladin with 63 Superbike victories. Mladin retired with 82 Superbike wins. Beaubier has four wins in 2024 and comes to COTA in dire need of three victories to keep his championship hopes alive.

The second highest active racer on the all-time Superbike win list is Jake Gagne with his 41 victories.

With five victories thus far in 2024, Josh Herrin has moved into a tie with Eric Bostrom and Freddie Spencer for 11th on the all-time AMA Superbike win list with 15 victories.

More, from a press release issued by Ducati:

Josh Herrin heads to Texas with his first 2024 Steel Commander MotoAmerica Superbike Championship match point.

Sunnyvale, Calif., September 11, 2024 — Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati’s Josh Herrin heads to the expansive surrounds of Circuit of The Americas in Austin, TX, this week with his first chance to wrap up the 2024 Steel Commander MotoAmerica Superbike Championship.

After celebrating a season-defining double win at Mid-Ohio in August, Herrin enjoys a 52-point advantage over Bobby Fong and current champion Jake Gagne, who has withdrawn from the remainder of the season due to ongoing health issues.

With three races instead of the regular two and 75 points up for grabs at COTA, Herrin needs to leave Texas with 50 points in hand over whoever sits in second place in the standings as the series heads to its final round of the year at New Jersey Motorsports Park at the end of the month.

Should Herrin indeed wrap up the 2024 title in Austin, it will mark 30 years since Eldorado Ferracci—an integral figure in the Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati team—and eventual two-time WorldSBK Champion, Australian Troy Corser, last triumphed for Ducati in America when Corser piloted the Fast By Ferracci Ducati 888 to victory in the 1994 AMA Superbike Championship.

Herrin will be backed up as usual by his international teammate, Loris Baz. The French ace has been enjoying rest and recuperation back home in Europe following round seven of the series at Mid-Ohio.

Baz is looking forward to racing once again at COTA, the scene of his world-famous save at the final corner during qualifying while riding for the Reale Avintia Racing Ducati MotoGP team in 2017.

Josh Herrin (Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati–#2)

“Going into COTA, I’m super-excited because this is the first round where we have the chance to lock up the championship,” Herrin said. “I’m not going to put any pressure on myself for that, but I know it’s a possibility, and that’s a great feeling.

“I’m going to treat this round like any other—I’ll go for the win if it’s there. I won’t be taking any silly risks, but I won’t just go out and cruise around because that’s when you start making mistakes.

“I just want to keep my head down, have a good weekend, and go for some race wins. I hope we can leave there with a championship. It would be a lot more fun to leave Texas with the championship sewn up, go to New Jersey with zero pressure, and just be able to send it.

“We have a very special livery planned for this race, and I’m super proud to run it. It’s been 30 years since Ducati has won an AMA/MotoAmerica Superbike Championship. When they did it, it was in 1994 in a team run by Eldorado Ferracci with Troy Corser on the bike, so I’m going to be running Corser/Ferracci-inspired bodywork, leathers, and helmet for the race. This will be unveiled on Thursday (September 12).

“I’m really looking forward to going to our best track of the year on the Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati Panigale V4 R and having three races there. Let’s get it!”

Loris Baz (Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati–#76)

“It’s been great to be back home for a few weeks, enjoying friends and family and having time to train,” Baz said. “Nothing beats home—I love America, but nothing beats being back where my roots are.

“This time has been perfect because now I’m ready to return to America and to Austin, one of my favorite places to race anywhere in the world. I haven’t raced at COTA since 2017, where I had one of the biggest saves in MotoGP.

“It’s cool to go back to Texas. I rode there in 2021 but didn’t get to race. I love the track because it suits our Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati perfectly and I am also a huge fan of the city. I’m there to get some good results, but it will be an intense weekend for the whole team with the position Josh is in, but I will do whatever I can to help him bring home the title.”

The pivotal eighth round of the 2024 Steel Commander MotoAmerica Superbike Championship at Circuit of The Americas kicks off on Friday, September 13, with Herrin and Baz on track at 10:40 am CDT.

Race one will commence at 3:10 p.m. CDT on Saturday, September 14. Race two is scheduled for 12:10 p.m. CDT on Sunday, September 15, and race three goes green at 3:10 p.m. that same afternoon.

MotoAmerica: 2025 Schedule Announced

Steel Commander Superbike Class Headlines 2025 MotoAmerica Championship

Seven Classes To Run In Conjunction With Premier Superbike Championship, Including The All-New Talent Cup… And The 83rd Running Of The Daytona 200

IRVINE, CA (September 10, 2024) – Just as the current season winds down with championships being battled for to the bitter end in the final two rounds, MotoAmerica, North America’s premier motorcycle road racing series, is already looking forward to 2025 and is excited to announce its nine-round, 20-race 2025 MotoAmerica Steel Commander Superbike Championship schedule that will begin at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama, in April and conclude at New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, New Jersey, five months later.

In addition to the premier Superbike series, the championship will feature seven support classes in the coming season – Supersport, the all-new Talent Cup, Mission King Of The Baggers, the Mission Super Hooligan National Championship, Twins Cup, Stock 1000 and Royal Enfield Build. Train. Race – with a total of 106 races slated for the 2025 season.

A notable location change to the schedule is a return to fan-favorite VIRginia International Raceway in Alton, Virginia, August 1-3, with the popular venue replacing the round at Brainerd International Raceway in Brainerd, Minnesota. The last time the MotoAmerica Championship stopped at VIR was in 2022 with Jake Gagne racing to a doubleheader sweep of the Superbike class en route to capturing the Superbike title.

It’s all change in 2025 for the youngest racers in the MotoAmerica Championship as the brand-new MotoAmerica Talent Cup replaces Junior Cup as the first step in the “Road To MotoGP.” The new class will see up-and-coming racers do battle and hone their skills on identical purpose-built Krämer APX-350 MA race bikes – motorcycles that will be similar to ride as the motorcycles used in the Moto3 World Championship. The fully adjustable Krämer APX-350 MA race bikes weigh just 242 pounds while producing 55 horsepower.

The MotoAmerica Talent Cup will be held at five of the MotoAmerica Superbike rounds – Barber Motorsports Park, Road America, VIRginia International Raceway, Circuit of The Americas and New Jersey Motorsports Park. Additionally, the Talent Cup racers will get the chance to represent the series with the brand-new class scheduled to go it alone at the popular AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days event at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course with two Talent Cup races to be showcased, July 25-27, and also at the Red Bull Grand Prix of The Americas in Texas.

“Next year is shaping up to be the best yet,” said MotoAmerica COO Chuck Aksland. “We’ve got some new things coming and it’s all exciting stuff. The MotoAmerica Talent Cup will get started and we know that’s going to create some great racing while also giving our young riders a fresh start with a new class. We’re also looking forward to returning to VIRginia International Raceway. VIR was always a popular round and the teams, riders and fans have been wanting us to return there. Our series will be action-packed with 106 races in eight classes held over the course of the year at the best racetracks in the country. We are already getting excited to get the 2025 season started.”

The MotoAmerica season will again begin with the 83rd running of the historic Daytona 200 at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida, March 6-8. Josh Herrin became the sixth three-time winner of the 200 (joining Dick Klamfoth, Brad Andres, Roger Reiman, Kenny Roberts and Mat Mladin) this year and he will be out to try to win a fourth in 2025.

Bike Week at Daytona will again feature two races in Mission King Of The Baggers, the Mission Super Hooligan National Championship, and Twins Cup in addition to the 200.

There’s a change at the top of the calendar with this year’s Steel Commander Superbike Championship set to begin at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama, April 4-6. The Barber round swaps places with Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta as the series opener, with Road Atlanta moving to round two, May 2-4.

Speaking of fan favorites, Road America will be chock-full of action as it plays host to the maximum number of classes with 12 races (Superbike, Supersport, Mission King Of The Baggers, the Mission Super Hooligan National Championship, Stock 1000 and Royal Enfield Build. Train. Race.) set for the customary last weekend May event at the immaculate facility in Elkhart Lake, May 30-June 1.

Following the Road America round, it’s “Go West, Young Men (And Women)” time as the series heads west for two races in the Pacific Northwest and Northern California. The action out west begins at Ridge Motorsports Park in Shelton, Washington, June 27-29, and concludes with the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca round in Monterey, California, July 11-13.

After a successful return to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course this year after a 10-year hiatus, the Steel Commander Superbikes will be back at the iconic Mid-Ohio track in Lexington, Ohio, August 15-17.

Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas, will host the penultimate round of the season, September 12-14, with the championship coming to an epic conclusion in the series finale at New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, September 26-28.

American Flat Track: Mees Just Three Points Away From 10th Title

Mees on Cusp of History as ‘24 Progressive AFT Season Concludes at Lake Ozark Speedway

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (September 10, 2024) – As if its status as the 2024 Progressive American Flat Track season finale, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing, wasn’t enough, the inaugural Parts Plus Lake Ozark Short Track presented by Arrowhead Brass & Arby’s will also serve as a capstone celebration of a hugely significant era in the sport’s storied history.

With more than 125,000 motorcyclists flocking to the Lake of the Ozarks from September 11-15 for 18th Annual Lake of the Ozarks Bikefest, Eldon, Missouri’s Lake Ozark Speedway is more than up to the task of providing such a momentous event a proper backdrop when the ‘24 season concludes this Saturday, September 14.

A bright spotlight will shine down on reigning Mission AFT SuperTwins champion Jared Mees (No. 1 Rogers Racing/SDI Racing/Indian Motorcycle FTR750), who is just three points away from eclipsing a record once considered all but unbreakable. Should Mees succeed, he will break a tie with the legendary Scott Parker and become the only rider in the seven-decade existence of the series to claim a tenth Grand National Championship.

And Mees will do so in what will be the final outing of the overwhelmingly successful Indian FTR750, which has already completed its mission of eight titles in eight attempts while racking up more than 100 Main Event victories and nearly 300 podiums along the way.

The FTR’s feat is assured due to the fact that the only rider with even the slimmest mathematical chance of catching Mees is the Indian-armed Brandon Robinson (No. 44 Mission Roof Systems Indian FTR750), who has put together a career year in 2024.

Even if Mees proves uncatchable, Robinson still has some work to do to lock down his first ever championship top two, however, as a result of the shock return to action of Dallas Daniels (No. 32 Estenson Racing Yamaha MT-07 DT) mere weeks after breaking his leg in a training accident. Daniels proved instantly back at his typical front-running pace, finishing second and third in Springfield to continue his perfect year’s run of podium results.

Briar Bauman (No. 3 Rick Ware Racing/KTM/Parts Plus KTM 790 Duke), meanwhile, has his sights set on another season-ending victory to both wrap up his season on a high note and move level with Robinson and Daniels for second place in terms of race victories this season at three.

Joining Mees and Robinson in sending the Indian FTR750 off in an appropriately dominant fashion are the likes of Davis Fisher (No. 67 Rackley Racing/Bob Lanphere’s BMC Racing Indian FTR750), Jarod Vanderkooi (No. 20 JMC Motorsports/Fairway Ford Ohio Indian FTR750), Trevor Brunner (No. 21 Mission Foods/Zanotti Racing Indian FTR750), and Declan Bender (No. 70 GOMR/BriggsAuto.com/Martin Trucking Indian FTR750).

Likewise, Sammy Halbert (No. 69 Castrol/Boswell’s Harley-Davidson XR750) will hope to do the same for the iconic Harley-Davidson XR750 with one final opportunity to give the illustrious machine a 503rd GNC Main Event victory.

Standing in opposition to those collective aims along with Daniels and Bauman will be Brandon Price (No. 92 Memphis Shades/Sody Ent/OTBR Yamaha MT-07), Dalton Gauthier (No. 79 Moto Anatomy X Powered by Royal Enfield 650), and Max Whale (No. 18 Latus Motors Racing/Liqui Moly Harley-Davidson XG750R), among several others, who come to battle with machines representative of the sport’s all production-based future.

Parts Unlimited AFT Singles presented by KICKER

Double defending Parts Unlimited AFT Singles presented by KICKER champion Kody Kopp (No. 1 Rick Ware Racing/Parts Plus KTM 450 SX-F) finds himself cast in essentially the same role as Mees. With just a small points haul this weekend, Kopp will become the class’ first-ever three-time champion and cement a run of domination never previously seen in the Parts Unlimited AFT Singles history.

The only riders with any chance of stealing away the #1 plate also happen to be the only riders who have managed to finish atop the podium outside of Kopp this season: Tom Drane (No. 59 Estenson Racing Yamaha YZ450F) and Chase Saathoff (No. 88 JPG Motorsports Honda CRF450R).

While attention naturally shifts back to Kopp as he closes in on another crown, Drane and Saathoff have both enjoyed stellar seasons – seasons that can only be improved upon now via an exclamation point at their conclusion.

It’s up to the rest of the field to interject in what’s largely proven a three-rider fight. Included among the long list of riders hoping make some noise this weekend are Trent Lowe (No. 48 American Honda/Mission Foods CRF450R), Tarren Santero (No. 75 Vinson Construction/P&M Motorcycles Honda CRF450R), James Ott (No. 19 1st Impressions Race Team Husqvarna FC450), Tyler Raggio (No. 55 Raggio Racing/Sluggo Racing KTM 450 SX-F), and Evan Renshaw (No. 265 American Honda/Mission Foods CRF450R).

Additionally, this Saturday will mark the 2024 season finale for Royal Enfield’s successful and popular Build. Train. Race. (BTR) flat track program. Since its introduction, BTR has injected new talent and excitement into the series as highlights, celebrates, and encourages the involvement of women in flat track racing.

There will be plenty beyond just the race action for fans to enjoy throughout the day, including numerous vendors, expansive food and beverage options, dedicated motorcycle parking, and a fireworks display to end the evening.

General Admission tickets are just $40 (kids 12 and under $5 with a paid adult General Admission ticket) if bought individually or a combined $85.25 if purchased as a Party 4 Pack of tickets. For another $50, the Pit Pass Upgrade provides all-day access to the pit area where fans can scope out the world’s fastest dirt track motorcycles and get up close and personal with the stars of the sport.

New for 2024 is the Opening Ceremonies Trackside Fan Experience ($125 all ages). This ticket option provides general admission seating with Pit Pass access, a guided tour of, and photo opportunities at, the infield podium and start/finish line, infield viewing of Opening Ceremonies and the heat races, and a track talk and photo opportunity with a special guest.

AHRMA: Hall And Spargo Win Vintage Cup Races At PittRace

Hall and Spargo Swap AHRMA 2024 Vintage Cup Wins – Again

(September 10, Knoxville, TN)  The 2024 American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA) Vintage Cup has become a duel between two players racing two very different motorcycles: Chris Spargo, riding John Turner’s 1967 Yamaha TD2 and Rob Hall on Stuart Carter’s 1965 AJS Seeley 7R.

Rounds 16 and 17 of AHRMA’s 2024 Vintage Cup series, which highlights the 350 GP class, were held September 7 and 8, at Pittsburgh International Race Complex in Wampum, PA as part of the 2024 Bridgestone Tires AHRMA Roadracing Series.

Spargo and Hall battled on Saturday with Spargo taking the win, and on Sunday, Spargo broke down and Hall put his head down, securing the win.

“Should these bikes be in a museum rather than on the track? After the epic battles between Hall and Spargo this weekend, I unequivocally say no,” said Greg Tomlinson, 2024 Chairman of the AHRMA Board of Trustees. “You can’t spell ‘AHRMA’ without ‘Racing’ and that’s exactly what we did this weekend.”

Sponsored by Hagerty Insurance, Roadracingworld.com, and NYC Norton (nycnorton.com), AHRMA’s 2024 Vintage Cup features the 350 GP class which includes 350cc four-stroke and 250cc two-stroke powered machines built up to and including 1968.  Featured bikes from this era would include bikes such as the AJS 7R “Boy Racer”, 350 Manx Norton, Benelli 350-Four, Aermacchi 350 Road Racer, Yamaha TD2, and more.

In Saturday’s race, Hall took the holeshot, chased by Alex McLean, riding Rob McKeever’s 1967 HD Aermacchi 350, and Spargo. Hall led the first lap with Spargo in second position and Mclean in third.

Spargo overtook Hall crossing the start finish line, and the pair continued to trade positions for the rest of the race.

The long straight sections of the Pittsburg track allowed Spargo to take full advantage of the TD2s two-stroke engine, while the torque from the Seeley’s four-stroke engine and its nimble handling favored Hall through the corners in the back section of the track.

On the final lap, Spargo set up a pass as the pair negotiated the downhill section of the track, made it stick, and took the checkered flag just ahead of Hall. McLean finished third, rounding out the podium.

The balance of the grid, in order of finish was:  fourth Eric Watts, on a 1972 Ducati 350; Craig Light, in fifth riding a 1973 Bultaco; Don Galloway, sixth racing his 1968 Yamaha DT 250; Jim Jowers, in seventh on a 1960 AJS 7R; Eric Watt’s uncle, Larry Watts riding a 1968 Ducati 350; John Tunstall, on a 1968 Ducati 350; and David Roper, racing his AJS McIntyre 7R.

On Sunday, in a repeat of Saturday’s start, Hall again led into the first turn with Spargo and McLean on his rear wheel. Spargo quickly took the lead and began to increase the gap.  During the second lap, entering turn three, he experienced a mechanical failure forcing him to retire from the race.  Hall then took over the lead as McLean tried to reel him in. Hall raced to victory, with McLean in second, and Watts third.

The balance of the grid in order of finish: In fourth position, Larrabure, riding his 1967 Harley-Davidson AERMACCHI Ala D’Oro, Jowers fifth, Roper sixth, Tunstall seventh, Larry Watts eighth, Spargo ninth, and Light tenth.

“Sitting in the tower at Pitt and being able to watch Saturday’s dogfight from above, it was a beautiful sight. Pitt is a beautiful facility, a true rider’s track, and on Saturday Spargo made it work for him.  I was happy to finally be able to present to him the 350 GP Vintage Cup special trophy, which is only given for Saturday’s races.  This award has eluded Spargo this whole year, as, up to now his wins have only come on Sunday,” said Kenny Cummings of NYC Norton. “Sunday saw Chris showing promise again for a lap, but he disappeared out of view and Rob maintained his lead pace, giving a good race to Alex McLean, and brought his Seeley 7R home at the top of the box on Sunday.  An important race weekend for Spargo and Hall for those elusive points. We’ll see how this scores as we prepare for our final race weekend in a month’s time at the beautiful Barber Motorsports Park in October.”

Rounds 18 and 19 of the AHRMA National Road Race Series will be during the 2024 Barber Vintage Festival, October 12 and 13 at Barber Motorsports Park in Leeds, AL

The annual Vintage Cup spotlights one of AHRMA’s road racing classes with extra attention on competitors in the selected class during each race event. Enhanced awards for the Vintage Cup competitors are presented separately from other class trophies during the Saturday awards ceremony at each AHRMA National Road Race event. Highlights from each Vintage Cup race will be reported in RoadRacingWorld.com’s online edition. At the conclusion of each season, the perpetual Vintage Cup trophy will be engraved with the national champion winner’s name and presented to the winner at the National Awards Banquet to keep for one year.

WorldSBK: Razgatlioglu Recovering From Collapsed Lung

Update: Recovery process of Toprak Razgatlioglu.

Munich. BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Factory rider Toprak Razgatlioglu (TUR) is making progress with his recovery. The world championship leader suffered a severe crash during the second free practice session of the FIM Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) at Magny-Cours (FRA) last Friday. As a result, he sustained a pneumothorax and was declared unfit for the remainder of the race weekend.

Further examinations at the medical centre at Magny-Cours have now confirmed that the pneumothorax is healing positively. The attending doctors have already cleared Razgatlioglu to travel to Italy, where his treatment will continue with another professional medical team. Italy is also the location of the next WorldSBK round. However, whether he will be able to compete in the races at Cremona remains uncertain. This will depend on his continued recovery and the assessment of Dorna’s medical team before the race weekend.

“We have received good news from France, although Toprak still needs time and rest to fully recover,” said Sven Blusch, Head of BMW Motorrad Motorsport. “We would like to thank everyone at Magny-Cours and the hospital in Moulins who took such good care of Toprak. We will do everything we can to support his positive progress. However, we won’t rush anything, as Toprak’s health is our top priority. He will return to racing when it is possible without any health risks.”

JSB1000 Class Report

Halbert is reuniting with his trusted crew, including Larry Zumbrun (LZ Racing), Kings Kustoms, and his father, Willy Halbert, turning the wrenches. After a decade in hibernation, Halbert’s Harley-Davidson XR750 will roar back to life, giving fans a rare opportunity to see this storied machine in action one last time.

“I’ve had this XR750 tucked away for about a decade and bringing it back for the finale feels like the perfect way to close this chapter,” said Halbert, who proudly runs the number 69 in honor of his late brother Jethro. “The XR750 has been such a huge part of my career, and getting to race it again with my original crew is something truly special. We’re going to give it everything we’ve got.”

Supporting this historic effort is Boswell’s Harley-Davidson, a long-time partner in the flat track racing world who is backing Halbert and his crew as they prepare for the finale.

Bubba Boswell, of Boswell’s Harley-Davidson, said, “We are honored to be part of this moment. The XR750 is one of the most iconic motorcycles in the history of flat track racing, and Sammy is one of the few riders who can still bring out its full potential. We’re proud to support him in what will undoubtedly be a memorable and emotional race for fans of the sport.”

Halbert’s Harley-Davidson XR750, a machine deeply ingrained in flat track racing history, will be meticulously prepared for its final outing, with Halbert’s veteran team determined to make its last race count.

Tony Dodge, team owner of Dodge Bros. Racing, shared his excitement. He said, “Sammy is a great rider, and to see him back on the XR750 with his original crew will be a true spectacle. The bike is ready, the team is ready, and we’re all hoping for a strong finish to this amazing chapter.”

Sammy Halbert’s 2024 racing efforts are supported by a range of partners including OnlyFans, Castrol, Boswell’s Harley-Davidson, Dodge Bros. Racing, Cardo Systems, Martin Trucking, 6D Helmets, Kibblewhite, Penske, Shimano, Pro Plates, Mika, Enerlon, Saddlemen, RSRK10-J2

Motorsports, Regina Chain, Oakley, CTI, MS, Hathaway Racing, Lightshoe, Motion Pro, Access Media Lab, and Fredericktown Cycles.

Be sure to catch the action at Lake Ozark Speedway on September 14th, as Halbert and the XR750 take to the track for an unforgettable final showdown.
