Vesrah Suzuki’s Tray Batey set a new track record at Summit Point Raceway during Sunday’s WERA Michelin National Challenge Series event, as he cruised to his third win of the day. Batey took his first win in Heavyweight Twins Superstock. He rode his Suzuki SV1000 to a huge 79-second win over Cale Swiger, who passed Russell Masecar late in the race to win by a wheel at the line. Swiger and Masecar were also riding Suzuki SV1000s. Batey’s next win was in 750cc Superstock. Again he ran away with the lead, this time on his Suzuki GSX-R750. Behind him, Reuben Frankenfield and John Jacobi raced for second, both on their GSX-R750s. Jacobi got by Frankenfield on lap two, and the top three remained the same for the rest of the race. The last race of the day was Formula 1, and Batey took the win in style by setting a new track record of 1:14.085 on his Suzuki GSX-R750. He beat the existing record by 0.228-second. Weber finished second on a Suzuki GSX-R750, and Brian Stokes passed Ben Thompson on the last lap to finish third on a Yamaha YZF-R1. XT Racing’s David Weber won in Open Superstock, the first race of the day, pulling out a 4.6-second lead on his Suzuki GSX-R1000 over Vesrah Suzuki’s Mark Junge. Further back, Stokes held off Ben Thompson to finish third. All of the riders were on Suzuki GSX-R1000s. The 600cc Superstock race fearured a race-long battle involving Josh Herrin, Keith Marshall, Stokes, Weber and Jacobi. Herrin had the lead for all but lap nine, when Stokes briefly took the spot. At the finish, young gun Herrin led by 0.062-second on his Yamaha YZF-R6 over Stokes, who was on the Team Stargel R6. Weber was 0.2-second behind on his Suzuki GSX-R600. Herrin also won the 600cc Superbike race, again on his R6. He led every lap, holding off Keith Marshall on a Suzuki GSX-R600. They both pulled away from Donny Kelley, who was alone in third on a GSX-R600. Dave Yaakov dominated the Lightweight Twins Superstock race on his Suzuki SV650, while Niels Grove passed Russell Masecar at the line to take second. They were also on Suzuki SV650s. The Formula 2 race also belonged to Yaakov, who finished over 14 seconds ahead of the rest of the field on his Suzuki SV650. Grove was second again on his SV650, followed by Jeff Gochenour on a Buell 1200. Thompson got his win in 750cc Superbike on a Suzuki GSX-R600. He had a fierce fight from Marshall, who was also on a GSX-R600. On the last lap, though, Marshall crashed in turn five and Thompson cruised to victory. Donny Kelley took over second on his GSX-R600, while Victor Baptista was third on a Yamaha YZF-R6. Arclight Suzuki’s Scott Harwell crashed in morning practice and was transported. According to his friend Russell Masecar, Harwell broke a femur. This just in: Once Harwell arrived at the hospital, he was found to have a broken and displaced hip. Harwell entered surgery Sunday night around 8:00 p.m. EDT.
