Two-time AMA Supersport Champion Tommy Hayden will join his team, Yoshimura Suzuki, next week at a multi-AMA-team test at California Speedway, in Fontana, California. It will be Hayden’s first test since suffering a fractured right wrist and right lower leg, as well as a serious concussion, in a high-speed highside crash while testing with his new team at Sepang, in Malaysia, November 16. Due to the injuries, Hayden was forced to sit out the annual Dunlop tire test at Daytona International Speedway in early-December. In fact, while his teammates Ben Spies and Mat Mladin tested, Hayden underwent surgery at the hands of famed orthopedic surgeon Dr. Arthur Ting. Ting screwed Hayden’s fractured scaphoid bone (which is notoriously slow to heal) back together and removed surgical hardware used on a previous injury but left Hayden’s fractured but not displaced lower leg to heal naturally. “It’s pretty good. It’s coming around,” Hayden said of his injuries January 22. “The last little bit is always the longest, getting every little thing back perfect, but I’m definitely good enough to ride, good enough to test.” Hayden, who has started riding supermoto again, said his leg was taking longer to heal than his hand.
