4FR Toyota Trucks/GreenerAcres.org team once again showcased new riders this weekend to replace injured Scotty Van Hawk. Matt Lynn served double duty riding in both Daytona Sportbike and American Superbike. Josh Day rode the first leg of Daytona Sportbike before concentrating on only Supersport for ESP on Sunday winning the event and taking the class points lead. Saturday’s races were highlighted by Josh passing 15 of his fierce competitors to finish 19th in his first race for the team. He and Matt also had a race long battle to put the 4FR Moto GT team up front after a first lap mishap. While running 13th in Superbike Matt had a clutch failure putting him out of the Superbike event. Sunday was the all Matt show. He had a spectacular return to Superbike action and dropped his times to the 1:27 range for nearly the entire race resulting in an 11th place finish! Riding a different R6 ridden for the first time on his warm up lap Matt was able to have a race long battle with the class regulars in Daytona Sportbike earning a respectable 17th place. He was a wonderful addition to the team and has proven that he can ride anything and ride it well. The 4FR Toyota Trucks/GreenerAcres.org team would like to express their gratitude to Matt Lynn and Josh Day for all of their hard work and help earning more great results for the team. More, from a press release issued by Josh Galster’s publicist: Slednecks Rider Josh Galster Pushes Through Frustrating Weekend at Mid Ohio Lexington Ohio- after a tough weekend of fighting with bike handling issues and cancelled practice sessions, Josh Galster finished the weekend with a 33rd and a 30th place finish, big improvements from his qualifying positions. Friday morning practice was cut short for Galster when he realized that he had the wrong gearing on the bike. “I was hitting the rev limiter in the middle of the back straight and was shifting at all the wrong times,” he said. He came into the pits, and without a team to help, changed the gearing himself and missed the remainder of the practice session. Qualifying that afternoon was cancelled due to poor weather and the AMA decided to use Saturday morning’s practice session as the official qualifying for the Saturday afternoon race. During Saturday’s practice/qualifying session, the gearing worked well for Galster but he encountered serious handling issues with the bike and was well off the pace required to even qualify. After some quick suggestions from Jeremy Daniels, Galster went out in the remaining 4 minutes of practice and was just able to squeak in a hot lap that placed him 39th on the grid. With such a poor qualifying position, Galster figured he had nothing to lose in the first race so he made some drastic changes to the setup of his 2007 Kawasaki ZX6 and was able to get it to hold the line better and find more grip on the exit of the turns. He lowered his time by a few seconds and moved up 6 places to finish 33rd. During a cold Sunday morning practice, Galster was able to better his times by another second and was ready for the Daytona Sportbike race that afternoon. Unfortunately his poor qualifying time left him near the back of the grid and with the new rolling start procedure he found it difficult to make up much ground off the start. The race proved fun for Galster though as he found himself in a 4-rider battle with the racers changing positions every few laps. Nearing the end of the race, he made a move to take the lead of that group and was able to lay down his fastest lap, a 1:31.994, nearly 4 seconds off his qualifying time, and finish in 30th position. More, from a press release issued by RMP Racing: Nickerson Retakes Points Lead, Millson Rebounds after Engine Failure HAMILTON, ON. CANADA July 22, 2009 – Hamilton, ON’s Steven Nickerson regained the points lead of the Honda CBR125R Challenge with a win on Sunday and a second place finish on Saturday at this past weekend’s Parts Canada Superbike doubleheader round at Mosport International Raceway. Pro Superbike racer Ross Millson rebounded after a blown engine during qualifying with a solid effort in both feature races. RMP Racing’s Nickerson got his first taste of Mosport’s high-speed 3.9km road course during a mid-week trackday. In addition to getting up to speed at Mosport, Nickerson was also on hand for Wednesday’s Parts Canada Superbike Doubleheader Weekend media conference at the Hard Rock Café in Toronto. Nickerson’s ability to adapt to unfamiliar tracks was once again evident during Thursday afternoon’s practice session where he posted the fastest lap time of the day with a 2:03.796. He would better this time with a 2:03.047 in Friday morning’s prequalifying practice session and would eventually earn pole position during Friday afternoon’s qualifier. Round 6 of the Honda CBR125R Challenge was an entertaining battle from start to finish. Bodhi Edie of Warman, SK got an excellent start off the line. By the first corner Nickerson was in hot pursuit and challenged Edie for the lead. The top two riders in the class would take turns passing each other for the lead for the remainder of the race and would eventually come down to a thrilling photo finish at the line. Edie would take the win by 0.020 seconds over Nickerson. Ryan Appenrodt of Quesnel, BC came out on top of a battle for third. “Bodhi and I had no idea who won,” said Nickerson. “We found out that Bodhi had won once we got back on the front straight.” Edie would now lead Nickerson by 11 points going into Sunday’s second half of the doubleheader weekend. Sunday was originally forecasted to be sunny however rain would present an additional challenge for the 7th Round of the Honda CBR125R Challenge series. Sunday’s start and opening laps were almost a carbon copy of Edie’s and Nickerson’s spectacular duel on Saturday. The top two riders in the title chase once again battled at the front in Sunday’s race however just past the half way point Edie went down when he lost the front end in turn 9 in the partially wet conditions. “I had passed Bodhi in corner eight” Nickerson commented. “I couldn’t hear him anymore and when I looked back he wasn’t there. I was really glad to see that he was okay.” Aboard his #661 Canadian Motorsports Expo / Inside Motorcycles / Motovan supported Honda CBR 125 R Nickerson crossed the finish line 5.854 seconds ahead of Quesnel, BC’s Ryan Appenrodt while Karl Robitaille of Ste-Julie, QC placed third. With the win on Sunday Nickerson now leads Edie by 39 points. Weather and variable track conditions were not the only challenge the RMP Racing team faced this weekend. RMP Racing’s Millson put in some outstanding lap times during Friday’s Pro Superbike qualifying session when the engine in his #39 Canadian Motorsports Expo / Inside Motorcycles / Tri-City Cycle Suzuki GSX-R1000 decided to let go. Before the engine went south Millson was charging hard to secure a top ten spot for the Pirelli SuperPole. “I just can’t seem to catch a break this season” said Millson. “One of the series officials put it best saying ‘…some years you’re the windshield and other years you are the bug.’ “ Millson and his crew immediately began calling around for an engine and was able to secure a last minute replacement. Hours on the road and a late night were ahead of the dedicated RMP Racing crew to be ready for the Saturday morning prerace practice session. Exhausted, yet relieved that he could still race, Millson ventured out onto the legendary Mosport road course for Saturday’s morning practice session. Millson opted to bring the bike back in after only a few laps to address a minor issue with the clutch. As race time approached for the 4th Round of the Parts Canada Superbike Championship so did the clouds. From 12th on the grid, Millson launched off the line and immediately jumped into the eleventh spot. Millson made the most of the power available from his replacement engine. However the lack of time to test and tune became apparent as he began to fall back. The skies opened up just after halfway through the race triggering a red flag. Due to concerns over the safety of the competitors the race was called complete with Millson having to settle for a hard fought 15th place finish. On Sunday, the second half of Mosport’s Doubleheader weekend, Millson once again launched his red, white and black #39 Suzuki GSX-R1000 off the line from the twelfth spot on the grid. Millson challenged Jodi Christie and Royce McLean for 15th spot for a number of laps and would eventually cross the finish line in 17th. “We were able to compete in both rounds this weekend and I put in the fastest lap time I have ever run on this track” said Millson. “I have to congratulate Steven on his two podiums and I can’t thank Mark, Blaine, Sabrina and Evan enough for going way above and beyond the call of duty this weekend!” The RMP Racing paddock was very busy throughout the weekend. Many sponsors dropped by to wish the team well including; Jesse Lauder from Motovan, Derek Rockel from Inside Motorcycles, Adrian Baird from GMD Computrack plus representatives from Infinet Designs and the Turn 2 Sportbike School. Team posters and temporary Inside Motorcycles tattoos were a big hit with spectators who also picked up the Parts Canada Superbike Championship Official Series Program and the latest issue of Inside Motorcycles magazine. The entire RMP Racing team would like to thank their friends, family members and sponsors for their continued support. A big ‘thank you’ must also go to the dedicated staff at Mosport International Raceway, PMP organizers, corner workers and safety crew for making the annual Mosport Doubleheader Weekend a phenomenal celebration of motorcycles and racing each and every year. Up next for the RMP Racing team is Atlantic Motorsport Park in Shubenacadie, NS Aug. 7-9. More, from a press release issued by Team Gym-Max/Hybrid Racing: GATINEAU, QUEBEC “” An amazing race weekend at Mosport International Raceway for Team Gym-Max/Hybrid Racing Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville, Ontario was the site for round 4 of the Parts Canada Superbike Championship. For motorcycle road racer Roxanne Gravelle it was the beginning of rounds 4 and 5 of the Pro Honda Oils Women’s Cup Challenge. Upon arrival Roxanne knew she had her work cut out for her. Only having been at Mosport once before as a beginner track rider, Gravelle didn’t know what to expect. As always Gravelle had studied the previous results of her opponents and set a goal of attempting to best a 1:35 minute lap time. With Amateur Sportbike practice on Thursday Gravelle had met her lap time objective by Friday morning! “I’m ready to go home now” she said jokingly. She could not believe how quickly she had managed to bring her lap times down. Gravelle qualified 6th in the WCC finishing 6th in round#4 and placing 5th in round#5. “I am so excited about my results and I did a best lap of 1:31.491 which I never expected to do. My Gym-Max sponsored Yamaha R6 was running flawlessly as usual and this type of track allowed me to see just what that bike can do! I think saying that I love this bike is an understatement”. Gravelle also took part in Round#4 of the Armour Bodies Amateur Sportbike Class. Gravelle finished 24th out of a field of 31 riders. “I had an amazing start but then when I got to corner 1 the pace significantly slowed down. I found out later that Stephane Beaupré (#752) had a gearing malfunction off the start which resulted in slowing down the pace for all those who went for the inside line. I think I was last for a while and then I started passing riders until I got out of traffic and chased Gareau (#55) to the checkered flag. It was a great race, I don’t think I have ever completed so many passes in the same race” said Gravelle. Roxanne would like to thank once again Pascal Beauchesne for the help he provided this weekend, it was absolutely invaluable! In addition to such an amazing weekend Gravelle was informed on the Tuesday prior to leaving for Mosport that TechSpec Canada has agreed to support Roxanne’s effort for the remainder of the season. Gravelle is very pleased to have this opportunity and is honored to be supported by the company for the 2009 Season. TechSpec Canada distributes the Gripster line of tank pads that are made with a high quality rubber compound and are applied to the gas tank with a reusable adhesive. The low profile laser etched pads allow riders to improve the overall control of body motion, weight position and posture without damaging your leathers.
