Munich. The British Superbike Championship (BSB) stopped off at Brands Hatch (GBR) at the weekend, where Keith Farmer (GBR) and Alex Olsen (GBR) picked up two podiums each in the Superstock class (BSB STK). BMW riders continue to dominate the Canadian Superbike Championship (CSBK). They picked up top-three and top-four results at the Atlantic Motorsport Park (CAN). Jordan Szoke (CAN) won both races, Samuel Trepanier (CAN) and Ben Young (CAN) also finished on the podium. In the SuperBike Series Brasil (BRSBK), Alex Barros (BRA) clinched a podium in São Paulo (BRA).

British Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch, Great Britain.

The sixth race weekend on the British Superbike Championship (BSB) calendar was held on Britain’s long Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit. Christian Iddon (GBR / Tyco BMW Motorrad) was the best BMW rider in both Superbike class (BSB SBK) races. He was in podium contention for much of the first race, ultimately crossing the finish line in fifth place. Iddon finished sixth in race two. Peter Hickman (GBR / Smiths Racing BMW) finished in sixth and tenth places. Iddon’s team-mate Michael Laverty (GBR) finished the two races in tenth and eleventh.

In the Superstock class (BSB STK), three races were held at Brands Hatch: two consecutive races on Saturday, with half the number of points being awarded for each race, and one on Sunday. In the first race on Saturday, Keith Farmer (GBR / Tyco BMW Motorrad) finished second on the podium. In race two, Farmer set the fastest lap before retiring but ASTRO – JJR Racing’s Alex Olsen (GBR) represented BMW on the podium, in third place. In race three on Sunday, both riders finished on the podium: Farmer was second again with Olsen in third. Farmer retains the lead in the championship standings.

Canadian Superbike Championship at the Atlantic Motorsport Park, Canada.

In the Canadian Superbike Championship (CSBK) at the weekend, BMW racers continue to set the pace. Two races were held at the fourth and penultimate event of the season, at the Atlantic Motorsport Park (CAN) – ending with top-three and top-four results for the BMW S 1000 RR. Record champion Jordan Szoke (CAN / Mopar Express Lane BMW Superbike Team) continued his winning streak, finishing first in both races and taking a huge step towards winning his 13th title in the CSBK.

In race one, starting from pole position, Szoke celebrated a clear start-to-finish victory. He finished with a lead of around four seconds over his second-placed fellow BMW rider Ben Young (CAN / Ben Young Racing). Third place on the podium went to Samuel Trepanier (CAN / Blysk Racing).

The second race was a real thriller. Szoke and Trepanier delivered a gripping duel for the win at the front. Trepanier pulled off a plucky manoeuvre to overtake the record champion and take the lead, but made a mistake shortly before the chequered flag. Szoke pounced on the error to clinch his next win with a lead of one thousandth of a second. Finishing in second place, Trepanier equalled his best CSBK result to date. Young finished third, making it onto the podium again, and Michael Leon (CAN / Royal Distributing Racing Team) rounded off the BMW top-four result. The season finale, with two more races, will be held at Bowmanville (CAN) in mid-August.

Jordan Szoke: “It’s really awesome to come out on top because we’ve all been working really hard. In race two, Sam pulled off a great pass and I thought maybe he was going to take off, but he made a small mistake there and when you get a chance like that you have to take it. These guys pushed me 100% to my limit, I didn’t slow down at all. This track is just so difficult, but I guess I didn’t do too bad for an old man.”

MotoAmerica at Utah Motorsports Campus, USA.

The MotoAmerica (MA) was at the Utah Motorsports Campus (USA) at the weekend. In the two Superbike class (MA SBK) races, BMW rider Danny Eslick (USA / Scheibe Racing) finished in eighth and seventh places. In the Superstock class (MA STK) race, Chad Swain (USA /Hustle Hard Racing) in fourth was the best-placed BMW rider. Jeremy Coffey (USA / Superbike Underground) was right behind him, in fifth place. Travis Wyman (USA / Weir Everywhere Racing) was seventh. Wyman is currently in second place in the championship standings.

SuperBike Series Brasil in São Paulo, Brazil.

The SuperBike Series Brasil (BRSBK) returned to São Paulo (BRA). The series held two races this weekend, for which the BMW S 1000 RR secured a podium position. Veteran Alex Barros (BRA / Alex Barros Racing) finished in second place in race two.

YOUNG CONTINUES PODIUM STREAK IN NOVA SCOTIA

SCHUBENACADIE, NS – Racers and teams headed out east for the double-header Round 4 of the MOPAR Canadian Superbike Championship (CSBK) at Atlantic Motorsports Park, Schubenacadie, Nova Scotia. The weekend provided a mix bag of weather and results for Ben Young, as he pushed hard for his first win, though it escaped him once again. Aboard his #86 Scot-Build/Barrie Trim and Mouldings BMW S1000RR, Young brought home a 2ndand a 3rd, results which did not reflect the effort the team put into the weekend.

With two races over the weekend, there was a practice and qualifying session on the dry and warm Friday afternoon. During free practice, Young was just 0.023 seconds in front of Szoke in second position. The qualifying session started with all competitors, then the top ten from that session moved through to the Dalton Timmis Superpole. During the thrilling Superpole qualifying session, Young was the first to break into the 1:07 laptimes on his Scot-Build/Barrie Trim and Mouldings BMW S1000RR. This gave Young provisional pole with 7 minutes to go, before Jordon Szoke pipped Young’s time by 0.236 seconds to take Pole Position. With the 7 minutes remaining in the session, Young decided to sit tight in second position as he knew he had the race pace for the two grueling 22 lap races over the two-day event.

The threat of rain on Saturday delayed the race, though the benefit was a dry race for the superbikes. Off the line into the first corner, Young tried to prevent Szoke getting by, though the result was Szoke and Young running wide, letting Samuel Trepanier into 2nd, with Young close behind. The first few laps of the race was thrilling, wheel-to-wheel racing, until Szoke started to pull a lead, leaving Young and Trepanier to their battle. With two laps to go, Young made his move going into the carousel to take 2nd– the position in which he would finish the race.

Again, the rain came heavy in the morning on Sunday, but it cleared up in time for race two. Launching off the line, Young exited turn one in second position, right behind Szoke. The race pace was quick, with the top racers doing consistent low/mid 1:08’s. Young kept onto Szoke, applying some pressure, but made a huge mistake almost taking himself out of the race at the end of lap one. He regrouped, but lost drive the turn before the Carousel, which Trepanier took advantage off, bumping Young into 3rdposition. A lapper caused a cushion between Young and Trepanier with a few laps to go, but Young didn’t give up, continually pushing and putting in quick laps. Ben said “I chased Sam all the way to the end with just a bike length between us going across the line – if I’d had another lap, I would have taken second”. With his first 3rdposition of the season, Young lost his streak of consistent 2ndplace finishes, but still came away from the weekend with valuable points.

As we move into the final race meeting of the year next month, Young had the following to say: “We are looking forward to more improvements into the season finale at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park, and to finish the year off strong, giving us lots of momentum going into 2019.”

BRANDON PAASCH SECURES TWO TOP 5 FINISHES AT BRANDS HATCH GP IN 2018 HEL PERFORMANCE BRITISH MOTOSTAR CHAMPIONSHIP

After a challenging weekend at the Knockhill Racing Circuit that saw him secure two Top 10 finishes in the 2018 HEL Performance British Motostar Championship, Brandon Paasch was looking forward to better results in Round 4 at Brands Hatch GP. With some recent team testing under their belts, Brandon and the Microlise Cresswell Racing Team were ready to attack.

Early practice showed that the Mahindra Moto3 GP racebike was responding well to some key changes. Running with his teammate Asher Durham, Brandon was able to get his head down and pick up his pace to secure 3rd in qualifying, his best result so far this season. In Race 1, Brandon had a good start but faded from the front group due to lack of rear grip. A red flag stopped the race early, and Brandon finished fifth.

“We started strong in practice and kept building on that all weekend. I had my best qualifying of the year with a 3rd, thanks to some good to work with my team in the pits and my teammate on the track! In Race 1 I got a great start and worked my butt off to stay at the front, but I was having a problem with the rear end of the bike sliding, a lot! Thankfully, I finished the race 5th after a red flag cut the race short.” (Brandon Paasch)

In Race 2, Brandon slipped back slightly on the start, and another racer dove under him in Turn 4. Brandon was pushed wide in the corner, losing touch with the group and putting him back to 6th place, just in front of the second group of racers. Refocusing and setting a goal to get back to the lead group, Brandon pressed forward to catch up to the riders in front of him. With 5 laps to go, Brandon had cut the four second gap to fifth and made a pass to work on catching the leaders. He ended up closing the gap but ran out of laps to make a run for the podium. A late fall by the leader meant that Brandon finished 4th in the race.

“We tested something in warm-up on Sunday morning before the race, and it made the bike even better! I can’t tell you what, because then I would be giving my secrets away, but I was feeling really confident for the race. I didn’t get off the line very well and someone turned into me in Turn 4, causing me to lose the group, and a lot of time. I settled into a rhythm and set my sights on catching Ed Rendell, who’s just in front of me in the championship standings. I ran him down from about 4 seconds back, caught him, passed him and immediately set my sights on Asher and Storm. They were about 6 seconds in front of me, so I knew it would be very difficult to catch them, but I could never give up. I just kept working at it.

“I ended the race in 4th, only 3.7 seconds off 2nd. I’m really pleased with the way I rode and the improvements we have made as a team over the weekend. We’re gonna take the positives from this weekend and move on to the Thruxton.”

Huge thank you to the whole Microlise Cresswell Racing Team, Mahindra, Bridgestone, Spidi, Arai, Electronic Concepts LLC, Evolve GT, luxeStar VIP, DRH, VNM Sport, CCC Manhattan, Paulie, my Mom, Eric, and everyone that supports me through the good times and the bad.” (Brandon Paasch)

After 4 of 9 rounds, Brandon is 6th in the 2018 HEL Performance British Motostar Championship, just 3 points out of 5th place.
