Szoke takes second straight Superbike pole at St-Eustache ST-EUSTACHE, Que. (July 7, 2012) Brantford, Ont.’s Jordan Szoke claimed his second straight pole position of the 2012 season during qualifying for round two of the Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship at Autodrome St-Eustache on Saturday. Riding the Waznie Racing / Parts Canada / BMW Motorrad Canada BMW S1000RR the seven-time Canadian champion turned a lap at 45.112 seconds around the 1.93km (1.2-mile), 10-turn circuit for an average speed of 141.248km/h (84.749 mph). “The bike is great; very consistent,” said Szoke, who also qualified on pole for this event last season. “I’m a little disappointed because I wanted to see a 44.9, but I can consistently turn the times I’m doing, and that will be important for the race tomorrow.” Kevin Lacombe of St-Cesaire, Que. qualified second fastest with a time of 45.566 secs. on the Team Couturier Racing BMW S1000RR and series points leader Andrew Nelson of Kars, Ont. set the third fastest time in Pirelli SuperPole qualifying at 45.605 secs. aboard the Nelson Racing / Endras Motorrad / mcn.tv BMW S1000RR. Uxbridge, Ont.’s Alex Welsh completes the front row for Sunday’s 22-lap race on the AW7R / Kenwood Electronics Canada Suzuki GSX-R1000. He qualified fourth with a time of 45.726 secs. Szoke’s qualifying performance earned him four more points in the Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship and moved him up from third to second in the standings with 45 points, 12 behind Nelson, who earned two more points for qualifying third. . Szoke took advantage of a clear track at the start of the 10-minute SuperPole session to set his quick lap. “I was hungry to get out right away and put a good lap down,” he explained. “I like this track. I have fun here. It’s tough mentally. It’ll be a tough 22 laps. I’ve got to get off the line first and if I do that, then I think I can get away.” Unlike Szoke, Lacombe put in his best lap late in the Pirelli SuperPole session. “The bike is working really well on used tires and I think that will be important for the race tomorrow,” said Lacombe, who is making only his second race appearance after a two-year layoff. “I don’t think Jordan will be any faster tomorrow. We need to get a good start, be patient and hold it together for 22 laps.” Nelson admitted a few mistakes on his SuperPole laps deprived him of a shot at a better time. “I don’t think my lap time is indicative of how fast I can go,” said Nelson, who claimed his first career National Superbike win at Shannonville Motorsport Park two weeks ago. “I’m happy enough with where I’m at. We’ll make a few small tweaks for tomorrow but over long distances the bike is working well.” Welsh tried to duplicate Szoke’s tactic of getting his quick laps in early during the SuperPole session but was unable to get a clear race track. “I think I went out too early and I got jammed by some guys coming out of the pits,” Welsh admitted. “I should have waited a little longer and I couldn’t get into a rhythm.” Second year Pro Bodhi Edie of Warman, Sask. qualified an impressive fifth on the Edie Racing / Blue Streak Racing BMW S1000RR with a time of 45.888 secs. He will be joined on the second row of the grid by Matt McBride of Mississauga, Ont. on the Riders Choice BMW S1000RR and the Jodi Christie Racing / Accelerated Technologies Honda CBR600RR of Jodi Christie. McBride came into the weekend second in the point standings but was unable to add to his 43 points during qualifying and goes into Sunday’s race third in the standings.
