Suzuki Unveils Totally Revised, More Powerful GSX-R600 for 2006 Flagship 600cc sportbike exceeds expectations with better handling and more power than ever BREA, Calif. (October 3, 2005) American Suzuki Motor Corp. (ASMC) is proud to debut an all-new GSX-R600 for 2006. America’s best-selling sportbike teems with innovative technology, aggressive styling and all the high-performance excitement any serious sportbike rider could want. “We’re so excited about the new Suzuki GSX-R600,” said Glenn Hansen, ASMC’s advertising and press relations manager. “The 600 sportbike market is extremely important to Suzuki, and this latest iteration of the GSX-R600 is a motorcycle that longtime GSX-R lovers and new Suzuki owners alike will love.” Powering the ’06 GSX-R600 is a brand-new, compact engine built for minimal weight and maximum speed. A narrower cylinder pitch, redesigned crankshaft and countershaft, and revised driveshaft placement contribute to the shorter engine layout. Also contributing to the compact layout is the new, narrower, twin-injector SDTV fuel-injection system. Larger, 39mm ventilation holes between the cylinders reduce pumping losses and new intake and exhaust valve buckets help increase valve lift. Chrome-moly, shot-peened connecting rods were redesigned for high-rpm performance and crankshaft inertia has been increased for improved cornering performance and stability. Cooling capacity is improved via a larger, trapezoidal-shaped radiator, and piston rings now have harder and smoother chrome-nitride plating for reduced friction. The GSX-R600 also features a new Idle Speed Control system for more reliable starting under cold conditions and precise idle control in both hot and cold environments. A close-ratio, six-speed transmission featuring a back torque limiter provides excellent rider confidence in any situation. An innovative new under-engine exhaust is the “piece de resistance.” The all-new component was designed for optimum mass centralization, maximum performance and impressive cornering clearance. The exhaust header is routed under the engine to a collector and then to the all-new under-engine muffler, equipped with the proven Suzuki Exhaust Throttle valve system, which terminates in an aggressive and stylish end cap near the front of the rear wheel. The result is a functional, race-inspired look without a visible exhaust canister. The chassis comprises a brand-new, aluminum-alloy frame consisting of five cast pieces designed for improved control, optimum rigidity and maximum performance. A more compact riding position reduces the seat-to-bar measurement and “” taking cues from the GSX-R1000 “” seat height is reduced for maximum rider control. Adjustable footpegs further enhance the new riding position. A two-piece, die-cast subframe maintains rigidity and is mounted directly above a redesigned, racing-spec, aluminum swingarm. The latter works in conjunction with an all-new linkage, which is based on the championship-winning RM-Z450 motocross machine. The new linkage system ensures smooth rear-wheel movement, reduces side loads and creates a more responsive and progressive suspension overall. Brakes also are improved with larger, 310mm front brake rotors working with radial-mount, four-piston calipers and a radial-mount master cylinder. The rear brake features a pin-slide, single-piston design for optimum braking and minimal weight. Front suspension duties are handled by a new 41mm inverted Showa cartridge fork with fully adjustable preload, compression and rebound damping. Keeping the rear wheel under control is an equally adjustable, aluminum-bodied shock absorber with a 40mm-diameter damping piston providing 130mm of wheel travel. The ’06 GSX-R600 sports a completely redesigned fairing with a smaller frontal area, vertically stacked headlights and turn signals integrated into the rearview mirrors for a sharp and refined profile. Three-spoke wheels mounted to high-performance radial tires reinforce the bike’s aggressive look, as do the fuel tank and the sharply styled, resin air cleaner cover. GSX-R1000-style integrated rear turn signals complement the LED taillight with dual lenses. The quest for true 600cc sportbike superiority starts with optimum mass centralization for quick handling and maximum rider confidence. Coupled with superior performance and an amazing new chassis, the remarkable 2006 GSX-R600 is the embodiment of pure adrenaline-pumping excitement. Amazing 2006 Suzuki GSX-R750 Improves on the Race-Replica that Started Sportbike Revolution The revolutionary GSX-R750 is now available in an even faster and better-handling package BREA, Calif. (October 3, 2005) American Suzuki Motor Corp. (ASMC) is proud to announce the next step in GSX-R evolution with the all-new 2006 Suzuki GSX-R750. The new, incredibly fast, exceedingly nimble motorcycle offers unmatched performance and balance for the true sportbike rider. “In 2005, Suzuki celebrated the 20th anniversary of the GSX-R750,” said Glenn Hansen, ASMC’s advertising and press relations manager. “In 2006, we’re introducing the GSX-R750, an even better version of the motorcycle that made Suzuki the number-one sportbike manufacturer, proving once again that Suzuki does, indeed, ‘own the racetrack.’ “ Powering the 2006 GSX-R750 is an ultra-compact 749cc inline-four-cylinder engine with revised bore and stroke dimensions, updated fuel injection and all-new exhaust system. The new narrower engine design boasts 70mm x 48.7mm bore and stroke and a higher compression ratio of 12.5:1 for maximum performance. In an effort to maximize mass centralization for optimum handling performance, the 2006 GSX-R750 features an innovative under-engine exhaust chamber. The all-new system looks great and offers the ultimate benefit of mass centralization with the exhaust mounted completely under the engine. The new exhaust also uses the proven Suzuki Exhaust Tuning system for maximum torque and reduced noise. A larger, twin-injector Suzuki Dual Throttle Valve fuel-injection system improves performance while maintaining maximum throttle control. Downshifts have the benefit of a new clutch system, similar to that found on the powerful GSX-R1000. Ventilation holes between cylinders have been enlarged to 39mm and the GSX-R750 now makes use of a secondary balancer shaft for smoother engine performance. Redesigned connecting rods are shot-peened chrome-moly steel and work with a new crankshaft that’s been revamped for increased inertia for improved cornering and stability. The ’06 GSX-R750 utilizes an all-new and more compact chassis, complete with a twin-spar aluminum frame built for optimum rigidity and maximum handling. Rake and trail specifications were updated for unmatched handling, and the new frame uses five cast sections for maximum control. The GSX-R750 also features an updated riding position, a lower seat height and all-new adjustable rider footpegs. Front fork is a 41mm Showa unit with three-way adjustability. In the rear, a new braced aluminum swingarm works with a Showa rear shock and offers preload, rebound and compression damping adjustment. The new swingarm has a larger, 22mm pivot and incorporates an all-new linkage system. The latter employs a forged-aluminum link that pivots on the swingarm itself with a one-piece forged-aluminum rod that connects directly to the frame. The new system ensures that the rear shock moves in a smooth arc during compression and reduces side loads as well. Brakes are improved via larger, 310mm front brake rotors working with radial-mount, four-piston calipers and a radial-mount master cylinder. The rear brake features a pin-slide, single-piston design for optimum braking and minimal weight. Like the new GSX-R600, the 2006 GSX-R750 received an aggressive redesign for the new year. The smaller front fairing features a more aggressive design and, when combined with the sharply styled fuel tank, sleek tail section with integrated turn signals and narrow wheel design, creates an unmistakably and purposeful new look for the GSX-R750. Front turn signals are built into the rearview mirrors for improved visibility and a clean look. A new vertically stacked headlight design allows for ram air ducts to be mounted closer together for maximum efficiency and performance. When combined with the new under-engine exhaust system, the 2006 GSX-R750 features a sleek and aggressive new look. It’s been more than 20 years since Suzuki unveiled the original GSX-R750 and released to the world the first true race-replica sportbike. With clarity of focus never before seen in a production motorcycle, the GSX-R750 set the stage for a whole new class of motorcycle and still does.
