Yoshimura Suzuki’s Ben Spies won his sixth AMA Superstock race of the season Sunday at VIRginia International Raceway, near Danville, Virginia. Spies jumped out to an early lead on his Dunlop-shod GSX-R1000 and was able to maintain that modest advantage to the end of the 17-lap event. Unofficially, Spies can clinch the 2007 AMA Superstock Championship by finishing seventh or better in the next race, at Road Atlanta, the penultimate round of the series. Michael Jordan Motorsports Suzuki’s Aaron Yates (second) and Jake Holden (third) earned the final two positions on the podium, the third time the teammates have both finished on the podium this season. Graves Yamaha’s Ben Bostrom was a distant and lonely fourth on his YZF-R1. Matsushima Suzuki’s Blake Young passed his teammate Danny Eslick on the final lap and took fifth by 0.006-second. Eslick was sixth. Team Roadracingworld.com Suzuki’s Chris Ulrich was the top non-Dunlop finisher, seventh on his Pirelli-shod GSX-R1000, his fifth top-10 finish of the season. Ben Thompson, fill-in rider for Millennium KWS Suzuki’s John Haner, took eighth, well ahead of HALOF Racing’s Scott Jensen (who ran off the track and finished ninth) and Red Devil/Roadracingworld.com Suzuki’s Gary Mason (10th). Team M4 EMGO Suzuki’s Geoff May dropped out of the race just past the halfway point with mechanical problems and was officially scored 21st in the 22-rider race. 2007 AMA Superstock Championship Presented by Dynojet VIRginia International Raceway Alton, Virginia August 19, 2007 Provisional Race Results: 1.
