Kawasaki Racing Team drag racer Ricky Gadson suffered broken bones in his right hand, a sprained right wrist and a sprained left ankle when he crashed during a Kawasaki-hosted media track day May 22 at Infineon Raceway. Gadson was lapping the 2.22-mile, 12-turn, AFM-version of the road course on a Kawasaki ZX-6R (636cc) street bike on OEM street tires when he spectacularly highsided exiting the turn nine chicane. An ambulance was dispatched to the scene of the accident, but Gadson rode the damaged bike back to the pits. A few minutes later, however, Gadson’s neck began to stiffen and his right hand began to swell up. He was transported via private vehicle to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, where he was diagnosed, treated and released. Gadson returned to Infineon Raceway later in the day wearing a splint that extended from his fingers to his elbow on his right arm, walking with the assistance of a cane and exhibiting a serious limp. Gadson, however, still felt good enough to give instructions and coaching to journalists doing drag-strip passes on ZX-14s.
