CCS Florida Homestead-Miami Speedway August 1, 2010 Manuel Moya won the Unlimited Grand Prix race at Homestead-Miami Speedway after taking over the lead early in the race and opening a gap on the rest of the field. Earlier in the day, passing rain showers in the afternoon left standing water on the track when Moya won the Supertwins race mounted on Dunlop slicks, rather than rain tires. And, since he ran well on those tires on a wet track, he chose them again for the Unlimited Grand Prix race, which was also run following another afternoon shower and on a wet course. This choice gave him an advantage over his competition as his Ducati 1098 was able to grip while everybody else was sliding through the corners on a quickly drying surface. Santiago Villa led the first lap of the Unlimited Grand Prix race on his GSX-R1000. However, his choice to run rain tires became an issue early in the race when the tires started chunking and he began sliding through the corners. Moya, who was gridded on the third row, got a good jump on the competition at the start of the race and was in second place and in a good position to pass Villa and claim the lead in lap two. Behind him, Stefano Mesa, who was also running rain tires on his R6 and having trouble finding traction, was able to get by Villa to take over second place towards the end of the race. Gustavo Sanchez also chose rain tires for his S1000R, and rode cautiously for most of the race. But, as the track started to dry and the front runners were losing tires, Sanchez was gaining. In the final lap came upon Villa and seized his opportunity to take over third place in the final lap of the race, passing Villa on the front straight, just before the checkered flag. Villa was the winningest racer of the day with four first place finishes. He won the Middleweight Supersport, Heavyweight Supersport, Unlimited Suprbike, and Heavyweight Superbike classes. His teammate, Mesa won the 125 Grand Prix and Middleweight Superbike classes. Vintage racing returned to the CCS Florida event with three classes added to the schedule. Troy Tenn won the Premier Vintage race, Rudolf Schachinger took his victory in the Medium Weight Vintage race, and Sakis Vasilopoulos won the Lightweight Vintage race. Beginning with the October event, CCS Florida will be adding Saturday track days to the schedule, opening the door for racers and street riders to participate in roadracing formatted track day sessions.
