Red Bull KTM Tech3’s Valentin Perrone was second-best with a time of 1:40.076.

More from a press release issued by Dorna:

Piqueras powers to lap record P1 on Friday. Rueda’s chief chaser hits the ground running at the Red Bull Ring as Perrone and Yamanaka complete the top three.

It was a classy Friday at the office for Angel Piqueras (FRINSA – MT Helmets – MSI) at the BWIN Grand Prix of Austria after the Spaniard topped Moto3 Practice with a 1:39.918 – a new all-time lap record for the class at the Red Bull Ring. Valentin Perrone (Red Bull KTM Tech3) and Ryusei Yamanaka (FRINSA – MT Helmets – MSI) completed the top three, 0.3s the gap splitting the trio.

CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar teammates Maximo Quiles and Dennis Foggia rounded out the top five, with David Muñoz (Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP) collecting P6 following his big crash at Turn 10 in FP1. World Championship leader Jose Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo) keeps his 100% top 14 Friday record up, while teammate Alvaro Carpe squeezed into Q2 in P14. Job done then – so far – for the championship’s lead contenders.

Scott Ogden’s (CIP Green Power) late lap that put the Briton P10 cost returnee Ruche Moodley (DENSSI Racing – BOE) an automatic Q2 place, as we now get set for qualifying on Saturday afternoon in Austria.
