ANOTHER TOP TEN FOR TOM, BUT MORE WOE FOR OLLIE AT SNETTERTON Etchilhampton near Devizes in Wiltshire racing brothers Tommy and Ollie Bridewell once again experienced mixed fortunes at another hot and sunny round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship when round seven was contested at Snetterton in Norfolk this weekend. 17 year old Tommy continued where he left off at Mallory Park two weeks previous by recording another top ten placing in the British Supersport Championship whereas 20 year old Ollie endured even more bad luck in both races of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship to return home once again pointless. Riding the 600cc Vivaldi Suzuki, Tommy qualified on row three of the grid in ninth position and made a brilliant start to run in the top seven for the opening stages but the super-fast straights of the Snetterton venue meant he was struggling against the faster bikes and eventually he had to settle for tenth position at the flag. For Ollie, it was a case of what might have been as despite qualifying on row six, the 1000cc Vivaldi Suzuki rider was challenging for the lower leaderboard points in the opening race but a do-or-die effort on the final lap failed to work out and as a result, he ended up 18th and then in the red-flagged race two, 20 year old Ollie was running inside the top ten when a clutch problem forced him out of the restart. “It was very frustrating that I could hold my own with the leaders on the corners but as the race progressed, they just ground me down on the straights as I didn’t have the same speed as them. Still, that’s some more important points in the bag and I’m very confident of a good result in the next round at Knockhill” said Tommy who elevated himself to joint twelfth in the championship standings as a result. For elder brother Ollie, having scored a podium finish on his last visit to Snetterton, he too was left frustrated: “I’ve scored no points this weekend but it feels as though I have and I’m pleased with the way I rode in both races. It’s typical of my luck that we has a problem in race two as I felt I could have done well there and in race one, I bought a ticket on the final lap but I didn’t win the raffle!. Still, Knockhill should be good for us and I’m looking forward to scoring some more points up in Scotland” said Ollie who dropped to 20th in the championship having non-scored in his last eight races now. The next round sees the brothers Bridewell make the long trip north to Knockhill in Scotland over the weekend of July 14th to 16th. More, from a press release issued by Centurion Racing: WIN NUMBER SIX FOR SPALDING 18-year-old Pete Spalding took a fantastic sixth consecutive win in the British Supersport Cup at the weekend (16th – 18th June). Spalding took the win at the super fast Snetterton Circuit and once again dominated proceedings in the Cup. In baking hot conditions and a huge crowd the youngster took his Dunlop-shod Honda CBR 600-RR to Pole Position in the Cup, race win and also setting the fastest Cup lap in the race in the process. He was struggling to get to grips with the ultra fast 1.95-mile circuit but as the weekend progressed he gained more confidence and was feeling stronger as he headed into Sunday’s race. The British Supersport Cup runs as part of the main British Supersport race, qualifying in 22nd position overall it was necessary for the youngster to get his head down during the race. A good start saw Spalding move up to 20th position overall and leader of the Cup riders. He was locked in a tight battle with fellow cup rider Aaron Walker and ex British Superbike rider Shane Norval. Fighting hard to ensure that Walker did not get the better of him he soon began to bridge a gap and was hunting down factory Ducati rider Martin Jessop. It was Spalding that dominated the Cup race over the 19 laps and gained another 25-points in the Championship standings, taking him 64-points clear of his nearest rival Aaron Walker. Commenting a delighted Spalding said “It’s been another good weekend for me and once again the team worked fantastically well to help me gain another win. I was struggling a bit in the race as I opted for a softer compound tyre to cope with the heat conditions. The track was slightly cooler than the previous days and this tyre only lasted half the race distance. I was sliding around a lot for the remaining laps so I just wanted to ensure that I brought it home safe and got another good result.” Team Manager Paul Rees said “We’d like to say a big thank you to Clive Padgett for all his helpful support and assistance throughout the year. He’s been a great help to us and hopefully we can continue getting some good results as the season progresses. Pete is growing in confidence at each round and we hope that he can carry on this great form into the next rounds.” Supersport Cup Results Pete Spalding – Centurion Racing Aaron Walker – Honda Rob Sketchley – Honda Christian Elkin – Triumph Mike Goodfellow – Yamaha
