Kawasaki Motors’ appeal against Jamie Stauffer’s disqualification from the second race at this year’s Australian Superbike Championship round at Mallala (SA) on June 5 has been dismissed by an independent judicial committee. At Mallala, Stauffer was deemed to have competed with a modified swingarm in the second Superbike race, and all his points accrued for finishing seventh (14) were wiped. A steward’s hearing on July 27 then upheld the decision made at Mallala on June 5. Kawasaki Motors then sought to reverse the decision, but its appeal was recently dismissed by a three-person judicial committee, which could not find “that the modification to the swingarm was done ‘by or with the approval of the manufacturer’. This means the appeal cannot succeed”. With the 21-day appeal window to that decision now closed, Stauffer finishes on 254pts in the seven-round 2005 Australian Superbike Championship, which concluded at Phillip Island (Vic) last weekend.
