Reigning Formula USA Sportbike and Superbike Champion Robert Jensen has withdrawn from this weekend’s Formula USA season finale at the Race of Champions at Daytona International Speedway due to injury. Jensen suffered a separated right shoulder when he crashed out of the lead of a WERA Sportsman series race October 13 during the WERA Grand National Finals at Road Atlanta. Jensen cut his riding to a minimum over the following two days of that weekend, before coming back on October 16 to win the 10-lap Suzuki GSX-R750 Cup Final. That same shoulder injury, however, will keep Jensen from riding at Daytona. “I went out on my (Suzuki) 750 this morning, and I didn’t feel comfortable,” Jensen told Roadracingworld.com Friday morning in the Daytona paddock. “We took my lap timer off the bike and I just went out and rode around. The times were pretty good, but I did not feel confident. “Any time I have to make a quick movement on the bike I get a big, sharp pain in my shoulder. The big problem is braking into the (International) Horseshoe and the flip-flops in the new section. “Sure, I could go out and probably get a top five, but if I’m not going to win I don’t want to go out. So I decided to pull the plug, end the season on a high note and get ready for next year.” The 2005 Formula USA Championships in Sportbike, Superbike and Formula Sportbike have already been clinched by Arclight Suzuki’s Jeff Wood.
