(September 5, 2012) – All four GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing classes will reunite in Central Southern New Jersey this weekend, September 7-9, 2012 to resume the intense championship battles that have developed over the summer. The title chases for AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike, AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike and AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport have been on a month-long hiatus since the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in July, while the AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series riders set fire to Indianapolis Motor Speedway in mid-August during the Red Bull Indianapolis GP, kicking off the XR Showdown in the process. The action will pick back up right where it left off this weekend with the American Red Cross Devil’s Showdown presented by Team ProMotion on New Jersey Motorsports Park’s 2.25-mile natural road course. AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing first began racing at New Jersey Motorsports Park as part of the 2009 season and of the six AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike race finals that have been contested at the facility, Josh Hayes (No. 1 Monster Energy Graves Yamaha YZF-R1) and Yamaha have taken the top spot on the podium in all but one. The two-time, defending SuperBike Champ is on a dominant march in 2012, heading to New Jersey with an imposing lead in the point standings on the strength of a string of impressive performances. With his win at Mazda Raceway in July, the Mississippian became the first rider in AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike history to score eight consecutive wins in a single season and he is now tied with international standout Ben Spies for third on the National Guard SuperBike all-time win list. Suzuki’s leading man Blake Young (No. 79 Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R1000) took the most recent race win at New Jersey Motorsports Park following an epic battle for the 2011 championship that came down to the final lap. Despite the fact that Young has placed second or better in all but two races — including three victories — he still sits a distant second in the standings, 74 points back. This season has been a successful freshman year in AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike for Hayes’ Yamaha teammate, Josh Herrin (No. 2 Monster Energy Graves Yamaha YZF-R1). The three-time GoPro Daytona SportBike winner at New Jersey Motorsports Park has been impressive, leading several races and grabbing up a number of podium finishes as he learns the ropes of the heavier, more powerful 1000cc machine. Michael Jordan Motorsports teammates Roger Hayden (No. 54 National Guard Jordan Suzuki GSX-R1000) and Ben Bostrom (No. 23 Jordan Suzuki GSX-R1000) have both shown speed recently and are historically strong at New Jersey Motorsports Park. Hayden’s last outing at New Jersey resulted in a third-place finish and he currently sits fourth behind Herrin in the points. The Kentuckian had an impressive showing during July’s Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course event, leading at times and taking second- and third-place results. Although 2012 has been a hit-or-miss season for Bostrom, he grabbed a second-place result in New Jersey last year and looked strong as he took home a fifth place result at Mazda Raceway in July. AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike In contrast to the win history for AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike, the AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike class’ leading rider has just one win in New Jersey. Martin Cardenas (No. 36 GEICO Suzuki GSX-R600) took home a GoPro Daytona SportBike win at New Jersey Motorsports Park in 2010, and he is the only active AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike rider with a class win in Milleville. The Colombian enters the weekend atop the GoPro Daytona SportBike point standings with a 64 point lead over nearest competitor Dane Westby (No. 5 M4 Suzuki GSX-R600). Westby posted a second-place result at New Jersey last year, and he has looked strong throughout 2012. The Oklahoman earned his second career victory at Mid-Ohio in July and his mid-season Championship run also included three second-place finishes. Graves Yamaha YZF-R6), who has rebounded from an early season training injury to make a convincing charge for the Championship. (Sept. 5) — KLR Group rider Kyle Wyman arrives at New Jersey Motorsports Park as the championship points leader in the AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series and plans to use this weekend’s American Red Cross Devils Showdown to add to the nine-point advantage he earned a few weeks ago in Indianapolis. Wyman’s new teammate, veteran Michael Barnes, also anticipates a big weekend on his identically-prepared Harley from Spyke’s Harley-Davidson. Barnes had a slower start to the XR Showdown, the five-race sprint to decide the 2012 title, and finds himself 21 points behind Wyman in fifth place. “We have a little gap in the championship chase but we’ve still got a lot of work to do before we can slap a No. 1 plate on my KLR Group XR,” Wyman said. “There are three races left and I want to win all three of them and go out with a bang. “I’m really looking forward to racing at New Jersey Motorsports Park again. I’ve had quite a bit of time at the track since it was built in 2009. I had a podium finish there last year when we came in third, and I’m looking to move up two steps this weekend. I’m in the best shape of my life, which could make a difference down the stretch. My workouts at Planet Fitness and long rides on my Shimano-kitted bicycle have done the trick.” Wyman has four victories on the year and is the only rider in the class to finish on the podium at all nine races contested so far. Barnes, who joined Kyle Wyman Racing prior to the Indy race, had finishes of fourth and fifth place at the Red Bull Moto GP. “I need better results than we had in Indy, for sure,” said Barnes, who has a victory and seven podium finishes on the season. “I’ve got some points to make up in the championship, so we’ll obviously be looking for the best result possible. “I felt really comfortable on the KLR Group/Spyke’s Harley-Davidson and riding with Kyle feels very natural. I’m confident the team will give me all the tools I need to get back on the podium. Yamaha U.S. Road Racing Teams Return To Action At American Red Cross Devil’s Showdown In New Jersey Cypress, CA September 5, 2012 After a late-summer break in the action, the Yamaha U.S. Road Racing Teams are heading eastbound to south-central New Jersey for Round 10 of the GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing season. The popular event is this weekend at the 14-turn, 2.25-mile New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, New Jersey. MONSTER ENERGY/GRAVES/YAMAHA: HAYES & HERRIN AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike Champion and Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha lead rider Josh Hayes is returning to the track where he clinched his second consecutive title last year, and he’s looking to continue to build his considerable points lead towards his third SuperBike crown in a row. Josh holds the track record at New Jersey Motorsports Park, and he’s won five of the past six SuperBike races at NJMP aboard his powerful, crossplane-crankshaft Yamaha YZF-R1. He’s won a total of 11 races so far this season, including eight wins in a row. Josh has also won the pole at every single track that the AMA Pro SuperBike riders have visited this year, which is a gaudy eight pole positions in a row. Is his going to ease off the throttle a little bit on his remarkable season? “Not on your life,” commented Josh. “I race to win and, in fact, with the points lead that I now have in the championship, I want to win just as badly as ever, if not even more so. I’m chasing destiny now, and building on my legacy in this sport that I love.” Meanwhile, nipping at Josh’s heels more often than the champ would like is a rapidly rising SuperBike rookie who also goes by the name of “Josh.” Of course, it’s Josh Herrin, who is Josh Hayes’ teammate and rider of the #2 Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha R1. Josh “Holeshot” Herrin has developed a knack for launching his R1 off the starting line and putting himself quickly into the lead or at least in contention for it. Josh has been on the podium seven times in his past eight starts this season, and he is currently in third place in the SuperBike season points standings. The rookie SuperBike rider is highly experienced in AMA Pro Road Racing, however, and he currently owns the Daytona SportBike track record at New Jersey Motorsports Park, having won one of the two DSB races at NJMP last season and winning both races in 2009 aboard an R6. “I like the track at New Jersey,” Josh said. “The fans there are so awesome, and last year, I gave away my helmet to one of them in the podium crowd. He’s won four of the past five AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike races aboard his #6 Yamaha Extended Service/Graves/Yamaha YZF-R6, and he’s coming off the biggest DSB victory of his career on the world stage at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Cameron has been on the podium in 9 out of the 11 races he’s started and, like Josh Hayes, he’s got his eyes firmly fixed on the prize, which is, of course, race wins. “I want to win them all,” Cameron said. “I’m not being greedy, I’m just being realistic. People say I’m a nice guy, but this nice guy doesn’t like to finish anywhere except at the front. I’m healthy, and I’ve got the best team and the best bike out there. Let’s get after it.” Well, “Y.E.S.,” by all means, get after it, but you’ve got a crafty veteran in your midst, Cameron, and he’s riding the same R6 as you, but with a familiar number. Of course, that’s the signature #22 and fan favorite Tommy Hayden, who is Cameron’s Y.E.S./Graves/Yamaha teammate. Tommy is currently tied for third place with Cameron in the DSB season points standings, having been on the podium five times this season, but it’s a win that he wants. He’ll have his ever-loyal friends and family from back home in Owensboro with him in attendance at New Jersey, and he’ll being trying hard to do them all proud by notching that elusive win. Tommy has been in contention and in the lead group on many an occasion this year, and no one’s got more experience on the track than the eldest Hayden brother, so don’t count him out just yet. The third member of the Y.E.S./Graves/Yamaha team, Garrett Gerloff, will get a hero’s welcome at New Jersey Motorsports Park, as he returns to action fully fit from the leg injury he suffered in the first practice session for the Daytona 200 this past March. Garrett is returning to the track where he notched his first professional career road racing victory last fall, at New Jersey in the Saturday SuperSport race.
