MORE PODIUM VISITS FOR HAYDEN AT MILLER MOTORSPORTS PARK

Hayden Spends Time Leading in Utah on Yoshimura Suzuki Superbike

TOOELE, UTAH – Roger Hayden continued to show great speed in MotoAmerica AMA Superbike action aboard his Yoshimura Suzuki Factory Racing GSX-R1000, enough in fact to lead parts of race two at Miller Motorsports Park on Sunday. In the end Hayden found a way to finish on the podium, in third, in both races in Utah, in spite of having a few issues along the way. Hayden’s teammate Jake Lewis continued his progress in his first year of Superbike racing. Lewis was fourth in both legs, good enough to hold onto third in the series standings. Hayden’s string of podium results has moved him to within two points of Lewis in the points.

This weekend’s races were held in 100-degree heat of Utah’s Great Basin testing both man and machine. Hayden and his Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R1000 were up to the task qualifying on the front row with a time of 1:50.968 on the expansive 3.048-mile outer course.

In the first Superbike race Hayden and Lewis finished third and fourth, less than a second apart, but well back from the leaders. Adjustments were made and for Hayden things were looking up in race two. He battled Josh Hayes for the lead and actually led portions of the race. But then Hayden’s machine experienced a mechanical issue and he reluctantly had to give up the battle for the lead and instead focus on finishing the race. Although he was down a bit on power, the handling of the GSX-R1000 helped Hayden cross the line once again in third.

It marked Hayden’s fourth consecutive podium finish and moved him just two points out of third in the standings.

“It’s hard to complain about two podium finishes,” Hayden said. “I think the whole team was a little disappointed though because we were battling for a win there in the second race. We just had a little mechanical issue the last six laps and I brought it home third. Luckily we actually got to finish the race. I thank my whole team. It was hot this weekend and they did an incredible job. We’re looking forward to Laguna.”

Lewis meanwhile scored another fourth-place finish in race two and continues to be turn in solid performances as a rookie in MotoAmerica AMA Superbike. Remarkably Lewis continues to hold third in the standings after six event weekends and 12 races.

“This weekend went pretty well,” he said. “I was a little disappointed to finish fourth both races, but I rode as hard as I could. We had a few small issues that cost us a little bit, but I’m happy to leave the weekend healthy and I’m looking forward to the next round”

Yoshimura Suzuki will be back in action during the combined MotoAmerica and World Superbike weekend at on the picturesque Monterey Peninsula and Laguna Seca, in Monterey, California, on July 17-19.

The Laguna race will air nationally on CBS Sports Network on July 26 at 2:00pm Eastern.

PARIS GAINS SPEED AT MILLER MOTORSPORTS PARK

M4 MPH Racing’s Melissa Paris continued to show signs of progress, registering another promising outing in this past weekend’s MotoAmerica AMA/FIM North American Championship round at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah.

Paris dropped more than a second off her time from practice to first qualifying, and then slashed her mark by nearly another full second in second qualifying to log the 12th best time of the session at 1:57.769 aboard her Team Hammer Contract Services supported Suzuki GSX-R600.

Paris backed up that performance in the weekend’s twin races, logging a pair of twelfth place finishes. The simple results don’t tell the entire story, however, as Paris continues to close the gap on the timesheets separating her from the next group of riders in front of her.

She said, “I was pumped going in because Miller has always been a good track for me. I have had some nice races there in the past and I had a definite set of goals going in. I was happy on Friday. My mechanic was really on point and we got up to speed quickly. Then we qualified 12th in a good session on Saturday, maybe the best one of the year for us.

“I was pleased with race one on Saturday. I made up one position and held it for most of the race. I made a mistake at the end and ended up finishing 12th. On Sunday, I was trying super hard and went a little backwards from Saturday, but I feel really positive about how things are going. It seems like we keep finishing in the same spots, but we are cutting time to the leaders so I am really positive about that. We’re making progress and sometimes it feels like baby steps but I’m getting closer to the front and going quicker and quicker.”

Paris will look to make further gains when the series picks back up alongside the superstars of the Superbike World Championship at Laguna Seca in Monterey, California, on July 17-19.

KTM HMC Racing’s Chris Fillmore Earns a Pair of Top Five Finishes at Miller Motorsports Park Doubleheader

TOOELE, Utah – KTM HMC Racing’s Chris Fillmore put forth a solid day of racing at Sunday’s MotoAmerica Superbike doubleheader at Miller Motorsports Park, earning a pair of fifth place finishes in the highly competitive Superbike class.

Fillmore qualified in the eighth place position for the combined Superbike/Superstock 1000 races aboard his KTM 1190 RC8 R. In race one, the Michigan native got off to a great start and began charging toward the front of the pack. Mid-way through the race, Fillmore made a pass on Superbike competitor Danny Eslick to ultimately secure a fifth place finish in race one.

Fillmore maintained his eighth place grid position in race two, once again grabbing a favorable start. Fillmore replicated his momentum from race one as he charged through the pack and into the fifth place position.

“Things really clicked for me this weekend,” Fillmore said. “I felt really comfortable on the bike and just had a lot of fun.”

Ortt Captures First-Ever KTM RC Cup Win at Round Three; McAllister Maintains Points Lead With Fourth Win of the Season

Miller Motorsports Park Hosts Round Three of 2015 KTM RC Cup

TOOELE, Utah – Thirty-one KTM-mounted participants, hailing from 13 different states and three countries, entered round three of the KTM RC Cup at Miller Motorsports Park over the weekend in conjunction with the 2015 MotoAmerica Series. RC Cup points leader, 20-year-old Gage McAllister, extended his lead with a fourth victory of the season in race one, while 15-year-old Canadian Braeden Ortt broke through for his first win of the season in race two.

McAllister once again earned pole position with the fastest time in qualifying, where he assumed the number one position on the starting grid for both races. With a great start behind him in race one, McAllister engaged in a five-way battle for the lead that included riders such as Indiana’s Hayden Schultz, Texas native Justin McWilliams, Ortt and New Jersey’s Anthony Mazziotto III. The front-runners swapped the lead position several times throughout the nine-lap race, ultimately finishing with only 1.2 seconds between first and fifth place.

McAllister edged out 22-year-old McWilliams to capture the race one victory, while McWilliams posted a season-best second place finish. Sixteen-year-old Schultz rounded out the podium with a third place finish, followed closely by Ortt in fourth and 15-year-old Mazziotto in fifth.

“I got a little lucky in this one, but this racing is a lot more mental than it is physical and you have to put yourself in the right position on the last lap,” McAllister said.

California’s Josh Serne finished sixth in race one, followed by Mexico’s Alejandro Gutierrez in seventh, New Jersey’s Brandon Paasch in eighth, Texas’ Brandon Altmeyer in ninth and Illinois native Jody Barry rounded out the top ten.

Race two showcased an even tighter battle as the top ten racers were in contention for the lead at some point in the nine-lap race. Perhaps it was Schultz who led the most laps, but the deep pool of young talent made it hard for just one rider to dominate. With two laps to go, Ortt made his move to the front and Paasch followed to settle into the second place position. Schultz fell back a few positions and Mazziotto III capitalized to move himself into third late in the race.

Ortt was able to hold off the pack to earn his first victory of the 2015 KTM RC Cup season, while 14-year-old Paasch captured an impressive second place finish in only his second race aboard the cup bike. Mazziotto III finished third in race two to capture his third podium finish of the season.

“I managed to line it up perfectly and try to break the draft and it worked out really well for me,” Ortt said.

After leading a majority of the race, Schultz finished fourth place in race two, with Gage McAllister just behind in fifth. Justin McWilliams captured the sixth place position, followed by Brandon Altmeyer in seventh, Josh Serne in eighth, Alejandro Gutierrez in ninth and Gabe Miller rounding out the top ten.

With four race wins behind him, California’s Gage McAllister leads the championship standings with 127 points total. Braeden Ortt now moves into second with 80 points and one win behind him, while Hayden Schultz moves into third with 77 points. Anthony Mazziotto III sits in fourth with one win and 72 points, and Justin McWilliams rounds out the top five with 61 points total.

The RC Cup Series features riders between the ages of 14 and 22-years-old who hold an AMA Superstock Limited license to participate. All participants race aboard a 2015 KTM RC 390 Cup Racebike, designed as racing competition bikes (not street-legal) and have been prepared by KTM with over 40 PowerParts and other enhancements to increase racing performance.

Round four of the 2015 KTM RC Cup takes place July 17-19 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California. For more information, please visit www.ktmrccup.com.

Double Podium Weekend For Tuned Racing Rider Bryce Prince

Miller Motorsports Park

Tooele, UT

Bryce Prince came away with 2 podium finishes at the MotoAmerica round at Miller Motorsports Park. Bryce qualified 2nd in Saturday’s second qualifying session, giving him a front row start for both Superstock 600 races. In the first race on Saturday, Bryce got a good launch, but was not able to hold his lead going into the first turn. Bryce, and his teammate Jason Aguilar, battled for the first half of the race for 3rd place until the race was red flagged for a downed rider. On the restart, Bryce got a good start and was able to stay with the leaders until the finish, taking 3rd Place and his second consecutive podium finish

Bryce explained, “After running up front in both races at Barber, I was excited to go to one of my favorite tracks: Miller. Come Friday, we tested a few different setups to see which way we should go with suspension. The first day of qualifying I ended the day in 5th place, about a half a second off of the leader’s time. Saturday morning, we made a few other changes and I was able to drop my time by almost 1 second, ending up P2 on the grid for the race. It was another good qualifying and I was ready for the race! In the first race, I was in a good battle for 3rd with my teammate Jason, when a red flag came out on lap 8, the race was restarted with 5 laps to go, I was able to move up to 3rd after a poor start and chase down the 2 leaders, Turning the fastest times of the race. I was not able to make the move and finished 3rd, less than a second off of the leader. After bringing home my second podium in a row, I was ready for the second race Sunday. I struggled again on the start, and was able to make my way up to 4th by lap 2. I followed 3rd place for a few laps and finally got around after making a good inside pass on the fast turn 3. I was able to run the pace with the leaders and eke out a 4 second gap to 4th. With 3 laps to go, I was too far behind to make up enough ground, so I ran a lonely race to the finish. I’m glad I was able to get a double podium at Miller, my 3rd podium in a row! I am very excited for Laguna, a track I know well! I cannot thank my whole Tuned Racing Yamaha team enough for helping put me on the box again!”

Corey Alexander had an impressive qualifying performance on Friday with the 5th fastest time in the first qualifying session. A crash on the final lap of qualifying and subsequent mechanical issues prevented Corey from improving his setup and consequently, his qualifying time. Corey ended Saturday’s qualifying in 7th overall. Saturday’s race saw Corey finish 10th. By Sunday, Corey was starting to show improvement. Late in the race, Corey’s lap times continued to drop as he chased down 3 riders in the latter part of the race for an 8th Place finish: his best of the season.

Corey stated, “This weekend started off really well ending Q1 in 5th place despite a crash. Saturday didn’t go so well resulting in 10th place from what seemed to be ultimately a mechanical issue that led to a blown motor in Sunday’s morning practice. Fortunately Tim and Brian worked hard to get my bike back together for Sunday’s race and despite some overheating issues in the race we were able to battle our way to an 8th place finish. Running up closer to the front guys felt good and is a step in the right direction for sure. The Tuned Racing team continues to work hard to get me a competitive package so it’s only a matter of time before we are battling with those top 5 guys where we should be.”

Jason Aguilar had a very tough weekend with excellent performances that were overshadowed by mechanical issues later in each race. Jason qualified 5th, matching his best qualifying this season. In Race 1, Jason did not get a good start, but quickly made passes to stay in touch with the leaders. Jason and his teammate Bryce Prince battled for 3rd until the red flag stopped the race at 8 laps. Jason’s bike overheated after a prolonged delay at the restart, and he retired early. Race 2 saw a repeat with Jason looking strong early, but ending his day too soon as the overheating continued in the 100 degree heat.

Jason added, “Miller proved to be a real test for me. By far the toughest race weekend I’ve ever had, and hopefully the worst I’ll ever have. We were strong every session besides some setup issues. My teammate, Bryce, and I worked together all weekend to insure good qualifying positions. Even with setup issues, I was able to get my Tuned Racing Yamaha R6 in the middle of the second row. In race one, I got a terrible start and dropped back at least 6 or 7 positions. I made some super sketchy passes the first lap and was able to eventually work my way to 3rd, and had a great battle with my teammate before the red flag. On the restart, my bike overheated, and that was the end for me. Sunday was the same scenario I got a terrible start but somehow worked my way back to the front. I had a great battle with Wyatt and Michael, with my teammate Bryce pulling a small gap. I threw down a great lap which was the second best lap of the race, but I couldn’t avoid bike problems again and my bike overheated and lost power causing another DNF. Hard to look at this weekend being positive because I came off the track after each race crying. I put 100% effort into every session though and was happy to be up at the front of the field. I’ll take what I learned from this weekend and apply it to Laguna Seca in a couple weeks. Very fortunate to be working with the best people in the industry. It was great seeing some old faces and some new ones too at Miller. Until next time.”

Team Owner Mike Pond added, “We had a challenging weekend at Miller this last round. Full of some really exciting action on track and in the pits. All of my riders rode great and pushed real hard to get their times competitive enough to run upfront. Bryce bringing home 2 more podium finishes is amazing, and we know he can put it on the top of the podium soon. I am very proud of them, as well as my team for working really hard to make the weekend happen. 5 engine swaps this week and a crash repair.”

Up and Down Weekend for McGraw Powersports Racing’s Elena Myers at Miller Motorsports Park

SALT LAKE CITY, UT – Hot off some great results at Barber Motorsports Park just two short weekends ago, McGraw Powersports Superbike Racer, Elena Myers, had some success followed by some disappointment in the blazing sun at Miller Motorsports Park.

“I felt I had a lot of momentum heading into this round here in Utah,” said Myers. “The bike has been working real well and I’m finally starting to get my head wrapped around riding it. We showed up here at Miller and I was immediately comfortable with the setup. I kept chipping away at it, and although my superpole result didn’t do my riding any justice due to a mechanical oversight, I knew we’d have a good pace for the two races on Sunday. I had a great battle throughout the first race with Chris Ulrich, but I just didn’t have enough at the line to get by. I also managed to drop into the 53’s and since that was my goal for the weekend, I was quite pleased.”

Elena finished 12th overall and 7th in class for race one. Really excited by that performance, both team and rider were looking to improve in race two.

“I got another great launch, heck both times I think I passed at least two rows in front of me. Anyhow, it was another awesome battle, this time with with four of us going at. Eslick was leading our train and we were all neck and neck. Unfortunately, around 7 laps in I noticed my bikes temp was going through the roof. We were all so close together that with the 100 degree air temp and little air getting to my bike, it simply overheated and I had to retire. It was a real bummer because our pace was slower than race one and I was just back there biding my time but what’s how racing goes.

Laguna Seca is probably my favorite track on the circuit so I’m really looking forward to getting this McGraw Powersports Suzuki GSXR1000 even closer to the front. We’re looking to pick up where we left off at Laguna in three weeks time.”

All and all, the team is very happy with the progress we’re making. Crew Chief Joe Capelli had this to say about the weekend: “Fast right out of the gate, Elena was putting in the work and dropping time with almost every lap. Unfortunately, the team overlooked a problem we thought was fixed with the bike for qualifying that cost her dearly. Thankfully she made up for it with insane starts in both races. She had a great battle and result in race one, and was in another great scrap in the second until high engine temps forced her retirement from race two. Still a great weekend, she’s made another huge step forward!”

Elena still remains sixth overall in the Superbike championship.

TOBC Racing’s Taylor Knapp Extends His Podium Streak In MotoAmerica Superstock 1000, Closes Gap To Championship Lead

Tooele, UT – June 30, 2015 – Taylor Knapp is, without question, the most-consistent road racer competing in the 2015 MotoAmerica Superstock 1000 Championship. Aboard his #44 TOBC racing YZF-R1, Taylor did yeoman’s work and had yet another rock-solid weekend in the series. He finished second in Sunday’s Superstock 1000 Race 1 at Miller Motorsports Park and then followed that up with a third-place result in Race 2 a few hours later.

Taylor has been on the Superstock podium in 9 of the 12 races that have been run thus far in the MotoAmerica season, which is a testament not only to Taylor, but also to his hard-working TOBC racing team, led by team owner Michelle Lindsay, team manager Scott Harwell, and crew chief Rick Matheny.

Because of Taylor’s and his team’s consistent results, he is now just 17 points out of the Championship lead with three rounds to go and six races yet to be run.

In Saturday’s combined Superbike/Superstock 1000 Superpole Qualifying, Taylor was the fourth-fastest Superstock 1000 rider, which put him in 10th position overall on the starting grid for Sunday’s two feature finals.

After Race 1, Taylor said, “We struggled with the bike a little bit earlier in the weekend here in Utah, but the bike really felt great in the race. I’ve got hand it to my team for giving me a great bike to ride today. The 2015 R1 is just so fun to ride.”

Following Race 2, when Taylor was asked about the points he gained as a result of his two podium finishes on Sunday, Taylor said, “Well, I prefer to win! But, all in all, we’ll take the points, and it was definitely a solid weekend for TOBC racing. I enjoy Miller Motorsports Park a lot, especially on this new R1. It’s got the speed and handling to really exploit the features of this track.”

The team will be back in action on the weekend of July 17-19, when the MotoAmerica series shares the world stage at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca during World Superbike weekend.

Millennium Technologies/KWR earns strong finishes in Utah

TOOELE, Utah (June 30) — The Millennium Technologies/KWR team earned strong finishes this past weekend at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah for the sixth round of the AMA/FIM MotoAmerica series. Kyle finished 9th/7th in Supersport while Travis brought home 6th/8th in Superstock 600.

Kyle, who was involved in a training accident in which he struck a deer riding his bicycle on June 20, was still recovering from road-rash and bruising from the incident going into the weekend.

“The road rash wasn’t really the issue this past weekend,” Kyle said. “The issue was the fact that after my crash I couldn’t move much, couldn’t train in the last week before the race. Friday and Saturday were tough as I tried to get loosened up.”

Wyman started in tenth on the grid of both races, getting great starts on Saturday and Sunday. He would improve from 9th in race one to 7th in race two.

“In race one I got such a great start that I was in third going into the first corner,” Wyman said. “Unfortunately we had grip issues that started on lap four, and I immediately dropped like a rock. Half way through the race I could barely hold on to the bike. I just physically wasn’t there.”

Sunday’s 7th place finish came after another great start and a significantly quicker race-pace as a result of not only a better physical condition, but a better bike setup.

“I have to give it up to my crew chief Robin Hawley and also Lenny Albin from K-Tech Suspension,” Wyman added. “We also have Jeff Soucek on the data and Ryan Luft working on the chassis, we really have a great team. These guys have been working their butts off to find me a setup that gets me comfortable, and Sunday we really made some progress. It’s the closest we’ve been, and after getting loosened up throughout the weekend we were able to put in 16 consistent, faster laps and never drop the pace off through the race. Sunday was a great result for the team and our confidence going into the last three rounds.”

Middle brother Travis, who had never been to Miller Motorsports Park before the weekend, fought his way from 10th spot on the grid to earn valuable points and retain 3rd in the Superstock 600 championship standings.

“Race one went well,” Travis said. “We were battling up with the leaders towards the end of the race but slipped back a few positions and finished 6th. In race two we made a bad setup call early morning and found it difficult to run the pace. Overall, I am happy with the progress made with it being my first time at Miller. I am looking forward to Laguna, which is a track I know quite well.”

Millennium Technologies/KWR heads to Laguna Seca next for the seventh round of the MotoAmerica series, July 17-19, 2015.
