AFM Round 4 at Thunderhill Cory Call had another stellar weekend, taking his third Kal Gard Formula Pacific win in four rounds on his Dunlop-shod, MDK Motorsports Suzuki. James Randolph finished second on his Pirelli-shod Dan Kyle Suzuki, with Michael Earnest third on his EDR performance Honda. “I feel real confident right now,” said Call, who also won the Open Production, Open Superbike, and Open Grand Prix races. “But for some reason this past weekend, the bike felt extra hooked up. In the practice and the morning warmup, I felt like I couldn’t put a wheel wrong; I pushed my brake markers back and increased my corner speed pretty much everywhere! We actually had a little fire drill when I jumped a curb in the race before FP, which snapped my chain adjuster by pushing it through my chain block. Thankfully Forrest and Kevin were able to put it all together in the last few seconds!” Randolph, who was hoping to celebrate his birthday with his first Formula Pacific win of the season, seemed pleased with his second place finish. “Once I got past Michael, I was able to close some of the gap on Cory,” said Randolph. “Cory is just riding really well right now, and I couldn’t get it back. I can go the same speed as him, but going any faster is pretty hard.” After the race, Pacific Track Time’s Michael Earnest seemed happy to be on the Formula Pacific podium, while also a little disappointed that he couldn’t match the speed of the front runners. “Getting on the podium was a bit of a surprise, with Dave (Stanton)’s engine breaking and Chris (Siglin) falling,” said Earnest. “I felt like I kind of inherited the spot instead of earning it – for sure Chris was faster and Dave was going well. I’d prefer to race those guys than to finish on the podium like that, but that’s racing. Overall, I’m pretty happy with how the weekend went; with Cory, Lenny, Joy, and a few others all winning races, Pacific Tracktime did really well!” Other standout performances on the weekend went to Lenny Hale, who took first place finishes in 600 Production, 600 Superbike, 750 Production, and 750 Superbike. Will Fox and Roadracingworld.com / Kids Don’t Smoke Racing’s Elena Myers also took multiple wins on the weekend, with Fox winning Formula 4 and 650 Twins on his SV650, and Myers winning 250 Superbike and Formula Singles on her Formula 450 KX450F. The next round of AFM action is scheduled to take place on July 11-12 at Thunderhill. AFM Round 4 Thunderhill Raceway Park June 13-14, 2009 Unofficial Top 6 per Class Kal Gard Formula Pacific 1.
