FIRST PERSON/OPINION Via e-mail: Hope you have a strong stomach; if not, do not continue. I was driving home yesterday afternoon on Northbound I-15 just past the Pomerado Road exit. I had just attended my umpteenth physical therapy for a frozen left shoulder, which is the by product of a Level 3 separated shoulder operation in January. The surgery had been required due to some oil on the road in De Luz Canyon which ended up with me and the GSXR-1000 sliding down the road at about 25 mph. Anyway I was thinking that the therapy is going well and I should be able to ride as soon as I repair the broken gearshift. I was doing about 80 which is normal for the #4 lane in my Ford Focus (alias the trudge–short for trudge vehicle), when I noticed some guy with a egg-shell helmet on a cruiser doing about 90. The cruiser boy had come out of nowhere and even at 90 appeared to be rolling out of it, when out of nowhere appears a red sportbike (R6 maybe) with rider (I will call LHFM for Lost His F–king Mind); he pulls up right next to Cruiser Boy. What ensues next is right out of a video game. LHFM starts motioning at Cruiser Boy and is greeted with the one-fingered salute. Well, LHFM is not having any of this and grabs some throttle and pulls directly in front of Cruiser Boy, hitting Cruiser Boy’s front wheel with his rear and sending Cruiser Boy to the ground sliding across the Number Two and into the Number Three lane. I barely missed him. After LHFM made a quick look back to make sure that he had put a fellow rider on the ground, he made the jump to warp speed. I tried to pursue but by the time the Trudge hit 100 mph, LHFM was in another galaxy. Fortunately I don’t believe cruiser boy was hit by any vehicles, but he was not moving when I went by. I hope he is OK. I used to only worry about cars, but now even fellow riders are suspect. WTF? Dark Days For The Empire, Indeed. If anybody else can help with information about this accident at about 5:15 p.m. 8/25/08, I am sure the CHP would like to know. William L. MacGavin Temecula California
