Round four of the 2005 YMF Loan Australian Superbike Championship was held at Mallala Motor Sport Park (SA) on June 3-5. At the meeting, two cases of potential non-compliance to Motorcycling Australia’s General Competition Rules became apparent, which have now been addressed at separate Stewards’ hearings. Following is a summary of the two cases, and the subsequent sanctions imposed. 1. A specimen was taken on the fluid in the cooling system of the #42 Yamaha YZF-R1 Superbike ridden by Shannon Johnson. The ensuing analysis, by an independent laboratory, showed that glycol was present. A Steward’s hearing was held on July 21 to address the issue, where a two-part penalty was imposed. That is, a $2000 fine, while Johnson loses all his points accrued at Mallala 36. 2. The rear swingarm of Jamie Stauffer’s #27 Kawasaki ZX-10R Superbike was deemed to be non-compliant by the Series Scrutineer. A follow-up hearing was first held on July 21, and then adjourned to July 27 to give Kawasaki more time to provide evidence demonstrating that the swingarm had not been modified. However, the Steward determined from the evidence provided that the swingarm had been modified. A two-part sanction has now been imposed: a $700 fine, while Stauffer loses his points from race two at Mallala 14. Both Yamaha and Kawasaki have 21 days in which to appeal the decisions.
