Yamaha’s Jamie Hacking led the postponed, 20-minute AMA Supersport warm-up session Sunday afternoon at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca with a time of 1:28.571, 0.8 second faster than the next fastest rider. Hacking told Roadracingworld.com that the racing surface was definitely coming up “pretty much all around the track” and that he was not in favor of racing on it. Before the session, Hacking’s teammates Jason DiSalvo and Eric Bostrom, Yoshimura Suzuki’s Ben Spies and AMA Pro Racing officials inspected the identified trouble areas of the racing surface. Hacking said he was not invited to go on the inspection. Hacking’s Team Manager Tom Halverson, who also went on the inspection, said the racing surface, “shouldn’t be a problem. We’ve raced on worse. The part that’s coming up in Rainey Curve, the cornerworkers said some of the MotoGP guys were going through it and some were going around it.” The start of AMA practice was marred by confusion on pit lane. Some teams, like Yamaha, were allowed to set up their canopies and equipment on one part of pit lane, while other teams, like Yoshimura Suzuki, were not allowed to set their pit lane equipment until several minutes later. In a meeting between teams and officials Sunday morning, one team crew chief asked AMA Pro Racing officials directly if his team could set up its pit equipment on hot pit lane in front of the MotoGP garages Sunday afternoon, as it had all weekend long. The crew chief was told he could, but after putting its pit lane equipment in place Sunday afternoon, the team was told to move several hundred feet up pit lane, away from the front of the MotoGP garages.
