Eric Wood had a successful debut on a Ducati 1098 in CCS Supersport action at Homestead Miami Speedway this past weekend. The Penguin Racing School instructor took the 1098 (standard) school bike, bolted on a set of Dunlop slicks, a Penske shock and a pair of Leo Vince slip-ons and went out to see how the bike would fare in both the Supertwins and Heavyweight Superbike. After practicing the bike on Saturday Wood said “I was really impressed with the bike. The new chassis on the 1098 is a huge leap forward, and I was suprised how hard I was able to push the bike with a completely stock front end. The bike got better each session, and Chris Boy from Moto Corse Performance helped tune the fuel injection Sunday, which gave us a nice boost in power” Wood went on to win both the Supertwins and Heavyweight Superbike races Sunday afternoon. After the races he added “I’m really looking forward to developing this bike. Once we get rid of the stock sprockets and revalve the front end I think we’ll have a real weapon on our hands. I also want to congratulate Santiago Villa on a courageous ride this afternoon….he’s a quality individual and I wish him much continued success in roadracing.”
