The MotoAmerica KTM RC390 Cup race was originally scheduled to run for 12 laps Saturday at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, but on the opening lap Jody Barry suffered a highside crash exiting Turn Two, setting off a chain-reaction crash that eventually brought down at least six riders. A rider was injured and in need of medical care in the impact zone, so the race was stopped by a red flag.
Riders involved in the crash included: Barry, Nolan Lamkin, Benjamin Smith, Daniel Costilla, Renzo Ferreira, Cory Ventura and Championship point leader Brandon Paasch, who was able to ride his bike back to the pits and make the restart of the race.
The race was restarted for the shortened distance of eight laps.
