Grand Rapids Harley-Davidson Racing XR1200 warms up for Indy at WERA Grattan regional, Wins

Grand Rapids, MI. (August 12) – Looking for some extra track time, prior to the Indianapolis Moto GP weekend, Greg Hutcheson/Grand Rapids Harley-Davidson Racing went to Grattan Raceway in Belding , MI to participate in the Pirelli/WERA Sportsman Series on August 10th. Significant progress was made in setting the bike and rider set-up for next weekend, and as an added bonus, resulted in a first place finish in the Lightweight Twins Super Stock Expert Class.

Greg Hutcheson, rider and team owner, stated: “I really didn’t have any expectations for the race. I was running some old tires from Mid-Ohio and all the other bikes in the class are lighter and more aerodynamic than the WFO Racing Harley Davidson XR1200, but I know Grattan well and was able to better my best time by a full two seconds. The race win is nice, but I really hope I can take my improvement in lap times and carry that into a good result at Indy next week.”

With the warm-up behind them, the team now shifts their full focus to the coming weekend at Indy, The most prestigious racing event on U.S. soil, boasting international press coverage. Greg goes on to say: “I owe so much to my family, crew, and sponsors Grand Rapids Harley Davidson, Michigan Engineering, GoldFren USA and all the others for allowing me to be here. I may have aged a few years since I competed at this level, but I know I have the bike and crew to be capable of a top 10 finish, now it’s just up to the rider.”

Grand Rapids Harley Davidson Racing will also be working with the Veterans Empowered Through Motorsports (VETM) crew again this coming weekend. Two combat vets will be an integral and essential part of the race team. Through this program veterans are counted on to provide and exercise their leadership, and resourcefulness in a motorsports environment. Greg explains: “The VETM guys are really a critical part of my team; I really couldn’t do this without them. Their skills and abilities ensure the bike is ready and as good as it can be come race time.”
