Inventor and bike builder Dan Hanebrink died from complications from leukemia December 29, according to a post on Facebook by his daughter Jessie Hanebrink. He was 80 years old.

A memorial service has been scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Pacific Time, January 26th, at Nottinghams Tavern, in Big Bear Lake, California.

Additional information will be posted as it becomes available.

Godspeed, Dan Hanebrink.

Update: To whom it may concern,

The shout out about my dad’s death was very kind but I was wondering if you can retract the quote about leukemia? My sister Jessie hasn’t spoken to my dad in years and when she posted he [died] from leukemia, she was way off base. My dad had been diagnosed with leukemia a few months ago. This is not what killed him. My dad died from natural causes in his home. He worked up until the day he died and finished one last bike. My brother had the privilege of delivering the last bike to the customer as my dad had promised. I just don’t want people picturing him laying in a bed dying from cancer because that was not it at all. He was in great spirits and had been hiking two days prior. It was just his time.
