More, from a press release issued by Althea Racing:

Monza (Italy), Saturday 7th May 2011: despite the fact that he missed yesterday's first qualifying session, Althea Racing rider Davide Giugliano was able to take his first pole of the season thanks to his results in the second qualifying session of the STK 1000 FIM Cup at the Monza circuit today.

Having resolved yesterday's mechanical problem, Davide was back on track in this morning's practice and consolidated yesterday morning's performance by recording the quickest lap of the session (1'46.1), three tenths faster than Zanetti in second. Team-mate Lorenzo Baroni also improved his position with respect to yesterday, closing the practice in fourth place.

In the afternoon's qualifying session, Giugliano had to start from scatch having missed the entire first qualifying session due to technical issues. His times fell dramatically and in the second half of the thirty minute session he even took a new lap record with a lap time of 1'46.064 which remained the quickest lap of the day. Davide will therefore line up for tomorrow's race in pole position, a more than satisfactory result for the rider at what is one of his home tracks. Lorenzo also improved on yesterday's times but a small mistake during his fast lap cost him a place on the front row for the race. The young Althea rider will nevertheless line up on the second row, in sixth position, having recorded a best time of 1'46.8.

Davide Giugliano
"We have worked very well this weekend, apart from that small problem yesterday which didn't stop us from carrying on with the work today. We've made progress with regard to the set-up and my 1198 is going well; I'm feeling really comfortable with this bike at this track. I'm also pleased to have recorded a new lap record. We remain focused on the job in hand and will see what we can do in the race tomorrow."

Lorenzo Baroni
"We've been going well today but unfortunately I'm on the second row for tomorrow's races rather than the first as I went wide at one point on my fast lap. It's a track where passing is difficult and it would have been advantageous to be on the front row but we weren't able to make the most of the tyre. I was able to make a good lap though and am satisfied. We have a few small changes to make tomorrow but I'd say we're nearly there. All in all, we're happy and we'll see how tomorrow goes."

TIMES (QUALIFYING): 1. Giugliano (Ducati) 1'46.0; 2. Barrier (BMW) 1'46.2; 3. Magnoni (BMW) 1'46.3; 4. Zanetti (BMW) 1'46.3; 5. Staring (Kawasaki) 1'46.5; 6. Baroni (Ducati) 1'46.8; 7. Petrucci (Ducati) 1'46.8; 8. Bussolotti (Kawasaki) 1'47.0

More, from a press release issued by Team Pedercini:

Sunshine and a dry track proved to be ideal conditions for Team Pedercini's Superstock riders as they worked on their machines' set-up. The three Kawasaki riders got straight down to business during morning's free practice in order to find the best possible settings ahead of the afternoon's second qualifying session. Staring reached eighth place (1'47"797) while Mercado was ninth (1'47"959) and Bussolotti (1'48"169) twelfth.

Bryan Staring (1'46"527) and Marco Bussolotti (1'47"013) will start tomorrow's second round of the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup from the second row of the grid after setting respectively the fifth and eighth fastest time in this afternoon's second qualifying session. Team-mate Leandro Tati Mercado (1'47"860) set the fourteenth fastest time for a fourth row start in tomorrow's 11-lap encounter at the historic Monza circuit.

Marco Bussolotti: "After the qualifying session I'm more confident for tomorrow's race. I'm pretty happy with my eighth place even though my rear tyre grip this afternoon was not enough to improve my best lap time. My race pace is strong and tomorrow I'll be looking to make up positions as soon as the lights go out. Many thanks go to all my technicians for their hard work over these two days".

Bryan Staring: "I'm happy because I did absolutely the best I could in the qualifying session. I gave everything I had and unfortunately I just missed out on a place on the front row but my position on the grid is better than the one I reached in Assen. For tomorrow it will be very important to start very fast from the second row and remain with the front group of riders. Thanks to everyone here in the team for their support over the weekend."

Leandro Mercado: "I'm disappointed because I was not able to improve on my best lap time to reach a better position on the grid. Unfortunately I'm still suffering from some set up problems and during my best lap I found a lot of traffic. I need more grip on the rear tyre but the situation is better compared to this morning's free practice. Tomorrow it will be a difficult race as always but for sure I want to do my best to reach a good result".
