WMRRA concluded its 2010 season this past weekend with Round 7 at Pacific Raceways. Going into the final weekend, the overall championship was separated by just 27 points between Ross DeLong and Eli Edwards.
On Saturday, both Edwards and DeLong had two makeup races from a previous round to run that would go on to make the points race for the #1 plate over the weekend even tighter.
On Saturday, Ross DeLong, in the Bell Helmets Open Supersport race, once again showed why he is one of the best riders in the Northwest. During Lap 3 of the Open Supersport race, on his HDFFC/GP Suspension/KFG Dunlop shod GSXR1000, once again broke the Pacific Raceways Overall track record, with a 1:23.352, besting the previous record by almost 3 tenths of a second, held by Eli Edwards.
On Sunday, the points lead had swapped between DeLong and Edwards. With just a 4 point lead for Edwards, they headed into the final race of the day, WMRRA's premier class, Performance Coatings Formula Ultra, to decide the #1 plate. In a winner takes all race, DeLong showed why he was deserving of the #1 plate this season by going on to with the race by 11 seconds and secure the WMRRA #1 plate for the 1st time in his career! With the #1 plate being decided by just 4 points, it was the second smallest margin in the history of WMRRA, second only to last year's race for the #1 plate, between the same two racers!!!
