Ben Spies was leading the AMA Supersport race at Infineon Raceway when it was red-flagged on the third lap due to rain. Immediately after the red flags came out, Danny Eslick and Chris Siglin crashed in turn 10, sliding into Airfence Bike soft barriers deployed by the AFM. Michael Barnes led off the grid but threw his hand up and pulled over exiting turn seven, giving the lead to Spies and coasting into the pits with an apparent mechanical problem. Siglin followed his bike into the soft barriers and appeared to hit the bike. He was flown to a local medical center in stable condition. A track spokesman said that Siglin had possible chest contusions and was complaining of pain in one femur. Update: X-rays taken at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital showed no fracture in Siglin’s femur. Siglin will, however, stay overnight in the hospital with a bruised lung, according to friend and fellow racer Ken Hill. The Supersport race purse will be paid according to qualifying results, but at post time it had not been determined if Jamie Hacking will get a Championship point for qualifying on pole position.
