I wanted to go a little bit faster but I was thinking a little bit about the Superbike race later in the afternoon. And I’ve fallen a few times on the SuperStock bike so I was being conservative in some areas.” After posting a quick 55.131 lap time during his qualifying session, Yates was gridded on the front row and started from fourth position. At the start of the race, Yates was out front immediately. He led the race for most of its 29 laps before being passed. Even so, the Yoshimura Suzuki rider still came in second. “Overall I was happy to get the points for finishing second,” added Yates. “We’re racing for the championship here, that’s the important thing. And now I’m looking forward to going to some race tracks where the Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R1000 will shine.” Although Yates didn’t get the win, he did get the extra point for leading the most laps and is currently tied for second place overall in the SuperStock points chase.
