Community mascots first in line for 2015 IMS tickets

INDIANAPOLIS, Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014 – Tickets went on sale today at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and IMS.com for all events in 2015 featuring the stars of the Verizon IndyCar Series, NASCAR and MotoGP, along with some of the world’s finest and most historic race cars.

When tickets went on sale, some of Indianapolis’ most recognizable characters were quick to get in line. Click for a video and photo gallery to see mascots visiting the IMS ticket office.

The season kicks off on May 9 with the Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis, held on the 14-turn, 2.434-mile IMS road course. Simon Pagenaud will defend his crown from the inaugural event last May.

After that race, preparations will go into high gear for the 99th running of the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race on May 24, the crown jewel of the Verizon IndyCar Series season. Ryan Hunter-Reay won his first “500” earlier this year after a thrilling battle in the closing laps with Helio Castroneves, who is expected to return for another chance at a record-tying fourth win at The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.

On June 13, hundreds of the world’s most historic race cars will fire up to run on the road course and famed 2.5-mile oval in the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association’s Brickyard Vintage Racing Invitational.

In July, the stars of stock car racing will arrive for the NASCAR XFINITY Series Lilly Diabetes 250 on July 25 and the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Crown Royal Presents the “Your Hero’s Name Here” 400 at the Brickyard on July 26. Jeff Gordon of Pittsboro, Indiana, became the first driver to win five major races at IMS when he won his fifth Brickyard 400 in July.

Activity at IMS shifts from four wheels to two in August as the MotoGP World Championship returns for the Red Bull Indianapolis GP on Aug. 9. Spain’s Marc Marquez won this year’s edition, marking his 10th consecutive win in what became a second straight championship season.
