From Oakland A’s to Intense Racing, SCRAMP Rides Weekend Success into Second Half of Season
New Financial Experts Strengthen Finance and Business Department
MONTEREY, Calif. — Visitors from around the world basked in warm Monterey sunshine all weekend long at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca to enjoy intense motorcycle competitions, a lively Marketplace and paddock show before relishing the many fine restaurants and clubs throughout the area. A record 64,298 fans attended the three-day Superbike World Championship and MotoAmerica weekend, which is a 5 percent increase over 2016.
The successful weekend, that began with Superbike World Champion Jonathan Rea throwing out the first pitch at an Oakland A’s game, to the last race on Sunday, caps the first half of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca’s racing season that is just shifting into gear for a very busy second half. Overall, ticket sales for the three upcoming events is up 15.45 percent over 2016 YTD figures.
Finance Department Strengthened
To support the increasing progress from events and myriad of infrastructure improvements under way and planned, the Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula (SCRAMP), which manages the Laguna Seca Recreation Area for the County of Monterey, is strengthening its financial department by adding highly-skilled individuals to continue enhancing and streamlining procedures.
Heading the financial department is Michael Smith, president of the SCRAMP Board of Governors. Adding further proficiency is the addition of Dennis McGoff, who has joined the finance department and brings extensive financial experience to the SCRAMP team and reports directly to Smith and the Board of Governors.
“As our management agreement with the County of Monterey strengthens and capital improvement projects intensify, we want to ensure our financial and reporting methods are aligned with the county’s systems,” explained Smith. “There are many projects in the planning process and we are excited to delve in and see them come to fruition.”
Next up is the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, which is the largest event of the internationally-acclaimed Monterey Classic Car Week that begins Aug. 11 with the Monterey Reunion Race Car Show on Alvarado Street in downtown Monterey. The historic car race attracts 550 authentic race cars that compete in 15 different groups. This year celebrates the 60th anniversary of the track itself, the international Diamond Jubilee Tour of Formula Junior, as well as the 70th anniversary of Ferrari.
