SECOND ROW BUT SATISFIED

During an exciting second qualifying session, Manuel Poggiali improved his yesterday lap time but it was not enough to get the front row. But Manuel is not worried at all because he worked order to be at 100% for the race and only the traffic in the final part of the session did not give him the chance to get a better lap time with the “qualifying tyres”. The race will be very tough with many fast riders separated only by a small gap.

Manuel Poggiali: ” The day has been positive especially for the work we made for the race. We were able to solve the problems with the front and now I have more feeling with my Aprilia. I did not push hard in the final laps because I saw some rain drops on my visor and maybe the grip could be worse. Then I found to much traffic as well. The race will be very tough cause it’s not easy to make the difference on this strange track. Moreover Honda bikes are very fast here… The gap is short and I must avoid any mistake. There are only two spots where suitable for the overtaking: the first braking and the end of the downhill. This Sunday will be very exacting”.

Mixed Fortunes in Germany for KTM-Red Bull

The KTM-Red Bull team endured a day of mixed fortunes in final qualifying for tomorrow’s German Grand Prix. World champion Arnaud Vincent failed to improve his Friday time and dropped seven places on the grid to 24th. Meanwhile his Italian teammate Roberto Locatelli jumped four positions to 22nd.

Locatelli improved his Friday time by just over a second and was delighted to have made forward progress in each of the four sessions since the beginning of practice. Vincent will also start on the sixth row and both riders face a difficult task in tomorrow’s 27 lap race on the demanding Sachsenring circuit with its tight, stop-go chicanes that make overtaking difficult. Vincent’s main problem today was poor performance in the fast third sector of the undulating Sachsenring course. Locatelli found most of his speed by employing a qualifying strategy devised by experienced former racer and KTM-Red Bull team boss Harald Bartol. Again qualifying was conducted in sunny and warm conditions after a morning threat of rain did not eventuate.

#1 Arnaud Vincent
24th 1:29.723

The morning free practice went OK for me but not so qualifying in the afternoon. I was fast in the first two sections but in the third sector with its long uphill climb I suffered with engine performance for this part. The race is going to be very hard work from the sixth row.

#10 Roberto Locatelli
22nd 1:29.657

I’m satisfied because this is the first GP weekend this season where I have improved in each session. After talking to Harald Bartol I changed my qualifying strategy and concentrated on doing a series of fast laps rather than going out and doing one quick lap and coming to the garage. This helped me a lot to improve by more than one second.

Despite Loca’s faster time overall this was a disappointing day. We face a tough time in the race .
