Mesa Sweeps Jennings GP

CCS Florida/Southeast –Jennings GP

April 6, 2014

Stefano Mesa won the Unlimited Grand Prix race April 6 at Jennings GP, in Jennings, Florida, after taking an early lead and opening a gap on the rest of the pack. Bruno Silva nabbed the holeshot on his Kawasaki ZX-10R, but Mesa was close behind and made his way around to take over the lead in Turn Three on his DMS-powered Kawasaki ZX-10R. With the battle for second behind him, Mesa continued to widen his gap with each lap. Sean Dwyer took over second place halfway through the race on his Suzuki GSX-R1000, and Silva quickly reclaimed it. Mesa took the checkered flag first with Silva, Dwyer, Felipe MacLean, and Andy White rounding off the top five.

On the podium, Dwyer stated, “Those guys are riding good. I made some changes to the bike and I went the wrong way and slowed down. I tried to make a change and it just didn’t go the right way so we slowed down a bit.

“Its always fun riding with Bruno. He knows his stuff. He’s real creative with his lines and the way he picks his bike up and stuff. So, if you don’t have your stuff together, it’s hard to get by him. He rides real well, and he got back by me. We had a blast and I’m just glad I came.”

Dwyer showed up at Jennings GP Sunday morning after co-riding to win a six-hour endurance race at

NOLA Motorsports Park on Saturday. He also finished second in the GTO and Unlimited Superbike classes. He thanked his wife, Daniella, Woodcraft, Graves Motorsports, Dunlop Tires, and Kids Cancer Foundation.

“I was trying to pass everybody everywhere,” stated Silva. “I was trying to push hard on the bike. It’s really hard to step up with these guys. Dwyer is a really fast rider. The level here is really high. I want to say thanks first of all to God for the opportunity to be here with my family. Thanks to my family, my team, Eric from GMD Computrack. Working for me is not easy. Thanks to Pirelli tires. Thanks everybody!”

“I couldn’t be happier,” exclaimed Mesa. “I couldn’t do it without my team, DMS, my suspension guy, Thermosman. The bike’s working awesome. I can just throw the bike sideways, and it will just stick. I honestly don’t know how. Thanks to my mechanic, Paco, he’s been working so hard to get the bike together. Thanks to my dad and my mom for making it possible, all my mechanics, everybody who made it possible. Thank you!” Mesa also won the GTO, Unlimited Supersport, and Unlimited Superbike classe.

Michael Eaton tied with Mesa as the winningest Expert of the weekend with four first-place finishes. He won the Supertwins, Lightweight Formula 40, Lightweight Superbike, and Thunderbike classes. He also finished second in Lightweight Grand Prix, and third in GT Lights.

Amateur Ryan Cabrera swept all four of his classes to be the winningest amateur of the weekend. Cabrera won the GTU, Midleweight Supersport, Heavyweight Supersport, and Middleweight Superbike classes.

Next event on Mesa’s schedule is the CCS Florida round at Homestead-Miami Speedway the weekend of May 3-4, then on to Road America for Round 2 with AMA Pro Racing, May 30 – June 1.
