MSS DISCOVERY’S RIBA MISSES OUT ON THIRD PLACE AFTER CRUEL BLOW

MSS Discovery’s luckless Pere Riba was forced out of third place in round nine of the British Supersport Championship at Mallory Park, Leics on Sunday.

Riba, starting from third place on the grid, rocketed into the leading group at the start of the 28-lap race. By the third lap Riba was ahead of Michael Laverty to take third, only for the machine to stop seven laps later.

“I don’t know what went wrong,” explained Riba. “It’s not the engine but something electrical. It’s really disappointing, I’d gone for a harder compound rear tyre knowing it was a long race so I know there was more to come.

“I’m unhappy for the team too, we’ve had a really good run in the eight rounds before here, retiring from a race is not something you ever want but I suppose it can happen now and then.”

After missing out on a finish in Saturday’s seventh round of the National Superstock championship, MSS Discovery’s Steve Allan suffered further dismay as he crashed out of Sunday’s eighth round.

Allan was holding eighth place when he crashed at the sweeping, right-hand Gerrards corner with eight of the 25 laps remaining.

“It’s a bad end to a bad weekend,” admitted Allan. “I thought everything had picked up for us when we made some changes overnight and I topped the times in the Sunday morning warm-up.

“The crash was simply down to me pushing too hard when I should have settled for a safe finish, it was a big highside though, and hurt! It’s a blow for me and the team but we’ve got five races left so I’m sure I can still get some good out of the rest of the season.”

Allan suffered a broken left collarbone and will now miss next Sunday’s Supersport support race at the Cinzano British Grand Prix. MSS Discovery’s Riba will be the team’s sole entry at Donington Park.
