Opportunity to acquire the intellectual property assets behind FTR Moto, an exciting motorsport chassis manufacturer with links to MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3 Racing Series

One of the most recognisable names in the motorsports industry, FTR Moto, was known nationwide and the brand is likely to have attracted loyalty and recognition from other motorsports vehicle brands. The intellectual property (IP) assets are being brought to market by Metis Partners, the award-winning commercial intellectual property consulting firm, on behalf of the company’s administrators, Lucas Johnson Limited.

The FTR Moto brand has been in existence since 2009, drawing on the engineering experience of the parent brand, Fabrication Techniques, which was a supplier of fabricated and welded parts for Formula 1 sports since 1994. The brand entered the new Moto2 World Championship as a manufacturer in 2010, and by 2011 it was supplying almost half of the motorcycles on the grid.

The company, which specialised in the development, design and production of racing motorcycles and components, expanded into Moto3 in 2012 and MotoGP in 2013. FTR Moto had strong and valuable relationships with MotoGP, Moto2, Moto3 and the Spanish Championships and its historical customers included Crescent Suzuki, Dubai Autodrome, and MSS Kawasaki.

The company also designed and developed its own single-seater car which has been supplied to a number of racing schools from Dubai to Scotland.

With the global sports market estimated to be valued at almost 1% of global GDP, this poses a significant opportunity to expand the brand into other motorcycle events such as the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy. In such a competitive marketplace, the brand and reputation of FTR Moto, known to the market as a leading provider of expertise and design, is a unique asset to be offered for sale.

Morven Fraser, of Metis Partners, who is co-ordinating the marketing drive, said: “This sale is certain to attract a high degree of interest from those with a foothold, or looking to establish a foothold in the competitive motorsports industry.

“Any parties in the relevant sectors who are looking to expand their chassis or component portfolios, or take advantage of the excellent brand and reputation of FTR Moto will be very interested in this offering. The reputation and goodwill of the company is the kind of asset that rarely appears on the market.

“FTR Moto’s success has resulted in a swell of positive media presence, both in trade publications, and national and international press. The brand has also benefited from a number of brand-enhancing partnerships with businesses such as Dunlop, Brembo and O.Z. Racing.”

The sale also reinforces Metis Partners’ expertise and reputation in the automotive and sports sectors which includes the successful marketing of Dipstix, Matchchat and Barnsby.

The IP assets for sale include trade marks – registered and unregistered – and goodwill rights and is likely to attract interest from those operating in the sports technology, motorcycling, and automotive sectors.

All offers should be submitted directly to Morven Fraser of Metis Partners by noon on Wednesday July 26 2017.
