The answer is … YES! At 16 years and 26 days old, Josh Herrin indeed became the youngest road racer to make an AMA National podium when he finished third in the Supersport race at Miller Motorsports Park June 18. Gerhard Lippert from Van Nuys, California was the first contestant to confirm that Herrin was the youngest, and he wins a Shoei T-shirt and hat. Gerhard also mentioned another young racer in his e-mail: “My guess was going to be Nicky Hayden winning the AMA 600 Supersport National at Willow Springs in April of 1998, Round 4 of the series on a Hypercycle GSX-R. Although technically he won a 750cc Supersport race the previous race (the weekend before), which was at Laguna Seca also in April, 1998. However Nicky was born on July 30, 1981 so he was almost 17 years old when he did that.” Thanks to all of you who participated in our contest.
